Not in the he's funny way (though he is funny and being actually funny is something else that has been missing from Joker in a lot of modern comics and adaptations) but rather he's a joke because he's pathetic, dcau Joker is a petulant, whiny manchild throwing a tantrum to get attention

Where Terry McGinnis goes back in time due to Plot Device. 

And finds Batman in his prime. Cross it over with basically any series - the closely linked Justice League cartoon Batman. Or any other that strikes your fancy. Multiverse is a thing, so that’s always a possible angle. 

And Terry is like ‘yoooooo, I gotta get Back to the Future’

And either goes to Batman for help. Or decides to avoid a Butterfly effect and stay on the down-low. (For the latter, you know he’s gonna jump in to fighting crime and raise B’s interest anyway.)

Either way, Batman being the Ultra-Intelligent Paranoid Mastermind Detective he is. Gets his hand on a sample of this Mystery Man’s DNA and decides to sequence it. 

I’ve… Seen 2 trains of thought for Terry’s DNA. Either that he’s genetically Bruce’s son, as Warren McGinnis’ DNA was overwritten. Or that he’s genetically Bruce’s clone, as all of Terry’s DNA was overwritten. Given Terry and Bruce say that Terry’s DNA is ‘Near Identical’ to Bruce, I’m betting on the latter. Possibly with a bit of gene splicing to repair fragmented sections, causing minor alterations. 

Either way, you know Bruce is going to be freaked. 

Especially if Terry is a lurking antihero he knows nothing about except that he’s a goddamn clone of Batman. 

Bonus Point: Terry looking suspiciously similar to Bruce Wayne, now that they’re essentially the same age. Either pulling a switcharoo trick at some point. Or Terry needing to obscure his identity to keep a low profile. 

I LOVE Batman Beyond. I think it’s a great show and its underrated in the already fantastic DCAU. Not every episode is perfect and it has more duds than say BTAS but I love the aesthetic and the idea that Batman is an ideal not a person. Terry McGinnis is a wonderful Batman and, while different from Bruce, has that same determination and kindness that made Batman great in the first place.

I loved future Gotham, I think they did a great job with creating the atmosphere, making it futuristic but not too weird as to distract from the plot. Also I liked the fact that it acknowledged and paid tribute to the BTAS Batman mythos without getting overly caught up in it. The nods to the JLA, to Ra’s al Ghul and Mr. Freeze were wonderfully done, showing that those characters are important to the Batman legacy but do not define this new Gotham and this new Batman. Old Bruce is the best Bruce. He reminds me of TDKR Bruce (you know, the original comic before Miller and fans made him into a cruel asshole) where he’s bitter and angry and hates how vulnerable he’s become but still maintains that flame of hope and finds new meaning in mentoring a student.

When Terry first became Batman and started hanging around Bruce, Ace was not having it. He’d bark a growl if Terry so much as stepped a toe out of line. When brought on missions he barely listened to Terry.
