Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.

If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.

And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.

So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:

If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.

I feel like halloween would be a bit of a sore spot for Hunter after Flapjack passed. It’s the anniversary of something extremely traumatic for him. Being possessed, Belos killing his palisman with Hunter’s own mangled and distorted hand, literally killing himself in an attempt to keep Belos from doing anything else, and even after all that, he lived, and he probably had no idea how to grieve in a healthy way. So much happened in just two days that he didn’t really have time to process, and I’d imagine he doesn’t like to think too much about things like that.

Everyone else seems to have processed everything pretty decently, gotten back into the groove of how things were, trying to rebuild after what happened. Hunter kept himself busy, made himself useful, did anything he could to make sure he wasn’t thinking about everything bad that had happened to him before and during that day. But no matter what Hunter read online, no matter what he found in books, nothing he tried really helped him all that much. Logically, he knew that Flapjack’s sacrifice wasn’t his fault. He knew that he should be thankful he got a second chance at life. But of course he’s still upset.. How could he not be? He’s almost definitely opposed to the idea of therapy, at least for a while. He doesn’t like to talk or think too much about the things that happened to him, especially not to a complete stranger. And he doubted any therapists in the human realm would do much else, other than diagnose him with crazy as soon as he mentioned the boiling isles.

It just doesn’t feel right to be happy in that day. On that day Flap died. On the day he technically killed himself. On the day the world almost ended a second time.

But of course, Mamá Camila is good at advice. She got Hunter to open up, telling her why he wasn’t exited for halloween when he usually loved to dress up and make costumes, etc.

This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldn’t feed them before those instances.

every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.

not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.
