One thing i love about the fight choreo in ATLA is how clear it is that no one really knows how to fight against airbenders anymore. Tagah easily took down the Gaang, all of whom are masters and war heroes.
Zuko’s the only one who’s really gone against Aang, and Aang rarely tried to do real damage to him. Similarly in Korra, with Zaheer. Katara put up a solid fight; Kya was caught off guard but she held her own, which makes sense if she sparred with Tenzin growing up, playfully or for training. Any other time we see someone who isn’t EXTREMELY skilled encounter airbending, they get wiped out.
It makes airbending seem op but it makes so much sense. Why would people train for a scenario that became nigh impossible a century or two ago? It also means that as the story goes further from the 100 year war, in either the past or future, Air bending will seem de-powered because people will know or learn how to fight them again. It would be the natural progression of the world.
