going down a non bat superhero tag be like: Batman post, Batman post, Batman post that explicitly belittles the tagged superhero, more disrespect, post that doesn’t even mention the tag but says justice league in it, GOOD POST, good analysis but somehow still about Batman, ship art with Batman, post that has nothing to do with the tag or the fandom, the most incorrect take you’ve ever heard, more disrespect, take based on a spin-off animated show that hated he character, GOOD ART, just a genuinely confusing take, Batman post, Batman post, Batman post.

ik you've already given some Cassandra Cain comic recs, but i need like absolutelty THE best Cassandra Cain comics for a project i'm considering. It'll be centered around her, because there's not a lot of media centered around Cass. Anyway, before I talk your ear offf...
i need comics that have the BEST Cassandra Cain characterization. And ones that also go into her relationship dynamics with the batfam as a whole. But specifically delve into her relationship with Bruce, Barbara, and Stephanie. And then of course, good ones for her backstory too.
Hope that's not too much to ask, someone recommended me to you for this, lol...😅
NOT TOO MUCH TO ASK OMG this is so exciting I love Cass projects 😭 Anyway to get it out of the way the Cass characterisation gold standard is Batgirl (2000). If you read all 73 issues you know Cass really well, and it features a lot of her dynamics with the Batfam!!!!!!
I will split the rest of my recs into the categories you've asked for! I'll also rec some specific issues of Batgirl (2000)!!!
Backstory
Her first appearance + backstory is in Batman (1940) #567 and Detective Comics (1937) #734. This is during the event No Man's Land!! Another really excellent Cass story in this event is Batman (1940) #569, her first mission! Batgirl: Secret Files & Origins also has a good recap of her backstory.
Bruce
The first two-thirds of Batgirl (2000) (issues 1 - 52) are essential. Of those, 23, 33, 34, and 48-50 are my favs! Gotham Knights (2000) #2 and Detective Comics (1940) #790 are incredible Bruce-Cass one-shots. This is less Cass-focused but Batman (1940) #606 and #607 (in the arc Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive, centering Bruce and Cass' dad David Cain) is an essential read to me too!
Babs
Similar to above, the first two-thirds of Batgirl (2000) (issues 1 - 54) are essential. Of those, 1, 2, 17, 23, 25, 45, and 54 are my favs! Batgirl: Secret Files and Origins third story is a great Babs-Cass tale, and DC First: Batgirl/Joker #1 is an absolute MUST READ!
Steph
Steph appears sporadically throughout Batgirl (2000) issues 20 - 55, while she appears as a vision in #62 and #72-3. Tbh I like basically all of her appearances, but special shoutouts to 21, 26, 28, 38, 53-55, and 62! The second story of Solo (2004) #10 is super sweet as well.
Other Cass stuff I'd recommend is Detective Comics (2016) #1082 & #1084 (part of Ram V's 'tec run; the absolute best of modern Cass). For some insight into Cass' non-Batgirl mantles, read Detective Comics (2016) #950 (set during Cass' time as Orphan) and Gates of Gotham #2-5 (set during Cass' time as Black Bat, good insight into her + Batfam dynamics).
These are just my opinion as to the best of Cass but I hope it's helpful!!!! And I am very curious about your project I wish you the best of luck with it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
just to be clear one of my opinions about jason characterization is effectively "i can accept him being evil but i draw the line at him being stupid/incompetent"
hey everyone knows that canonically jason did not ask bruce to kill the joker right? we all know that 'jason asks bruce to kill joker for him' is fanon right? we all know that jason said 'i am going to kill the joker, batman will have to kill me to stop me' right? we all understand that vengeance against the joker is something that jason is ready to do himself but he needs bruce 'a father's righteous vengeance is to kill his child's murderer' wayne to stand witness to his failure but not necessarily participate in breaking his one rule right? we all get that when talking about utrh and saying batman had to choose it's about action- killing jason or inaction- not saving joker right? we know batman killing joker wasn't a presented option even though he interpreted it that way right?
*taps mic* Jason didn’t know that Joker was in the warehouse
Like his death still wouldn’t have been his fault because he was a kid and it was the Joker who murdered him but he also very much so did not disobey Batman because he very much so DID NOT KNOW THE JOKER WAS IN THE WAREHOUSE UNTIL JASON HIMSELF WAS IN THE WAREHOUSE WITH A GUN PULLED ON HIM

Why are people so insistent that the batarang hit in UtH was an accident? What is the point of having a character comment on Bruce's good aim if not to tell you, the reader, that he has good aim? Just say he was trying to force Jason to dodge! It's way more consistent, and it still lets you say Bruce wasn't trying to kill Jason. He went for the risky play and it didn't work out.
yknow when it comes to under the red hood i still continue to find it fascinating despite some of my problems with how winick writes jason (especially in regards to his robin days). because instead of focusing on the moral conflict like a lot of people do i choose to focus on the whole justice thing and how this comic kind of reframes what justice means in comics.
there is the obvious moral conflict of the story "are there circumstances in which killing is justified" and while i do think this an interesting conflict to discuss (when it's not being poisoned by fandom slapfighting) it has been discussed to Death and sometimes it feels like people are engaging with the topic not because they are genuinely interested in it but instead to dunk on jason todd fans for being fake leftists who support the death penalty or whatever.
plus i think by focusing on the in-universe conversation about morality you kind of miss the really interesting meta level conversation about justice and what that means in comics. because batman as a character and as a superhero is literally about enacting justice. justice for him, justice for gotham, and justice for anyone who's in need of it.
however under the red hood presents the Very Interesting question of "and what if the victim, the one who batman is supposed to be getting justice for, decides his methods aren't enough?" because there's the very surface level argument of "bruce did get jason his justice, his moral code, (and. the joker being an ambassador of iran,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i hate dc), and the 'it's not a great look if the guy we sell on lunchboxes and make cartoon shows about starts killing people' thing prevented him from killing him, but he did send the joker to prison."
but then under the red hood makes us ask "was that really justice?" because yes the joker went to prison, but the joker gets to treat prison like a revolving door because of his status as batman's (and arguably dc's) most popular rogue. so bruce puts the joker in prison, but then he breaks out again, gets sent back again, breaks out, the cycle continues.
and now we have to question "is this really justice?". sure the joker was put in prison for jason's death. but then he just broke out and continued killing people. so now The Cyclical Nature of comic books presents a situation where jason can't really get any justice for his death besides killing. because joker is dc's cash cow so he can go to prison, but he can never stay there. the joker can serve his time, but he'll always break out eventually and continue killing people.
and so that's why the moral conflict of utrh isn't one that really interests me because. "we shouldn't kill people because people can change" is a good argument. its something that i agree with! but dc has presented a situation where the bad guy doesn't change. he continues hurting and killing people. and repeatedly it's been shown that the bad guy might be Incapable of change.
it's also why i think under the red hood ends with the "everybody still loses" line. in-text obviously it's referring to the Batarang Incident. but on the meta level i see it as a commentary on the whole cyclical nature of comics and the not-justice of it all. in the "is killing justified?" conversation everybody still loses. because there's no conclusion to a conversation that is never ending.
okay but from an outside perspective, red hood had no business being a crime lord. thats so unfair for everyone else. because really its some mysterious faceless individual, virtually omnipresent considering his ability to 'guess' all of batmans contingency plans, skilled enough to evade batman like a game and overtake the criminal underworld in a day, potentially immortal, and hes just like. yeah ill take over the drug trade. what the fuck man. overqualified slum lord

I... okay, so I just started reading Countdown. I read two issues in the standard order before realizing the series is meant to be read backwards. I find it pretty interesting, but after switching to the correct reading order, I’ve already got a lot of questions after just a little bit of reading.
Basically, Duela Dent gets killed. After the Titans attend the funeral, they start investigating and discover that Red Hood is involved.
And then, after that:
Alright, here’s the wiki summary. The power of words is truly something, just reading these lines makes me feel like I’m about to explode.
Let me break it down for you all:
“Jason knew very little about the murder, only that she was killed by an alien,”
Excuse me? I’d argue Jason knew more about the murder than anyone else standing there, considering he was basically right there when it happened. You’d think a description of the guy’s appearance would be valuable. The type of gun he used? His outfit? What about what he told Jason regarding Duela being an anomaly that could harm the multiverse? Or the fact that he intended to kill Jason right after for that very same reason? And then there’s the part where an identical-looking guy showed up and stopped him? I feel like that information could have been incredibly useful.
Meanwhile, the Titans just decided went to the scene of Duela’s murder and found absolutely nothing. I mean, Jason was right there. I don’t know, doesn't it seem like if they had just asked him nicely and thoroughly, they could have gotten a ton of information?
Also:
I actually think Jason has a point.
I mean, all they did was go up to Jason and said they knew that he had his "dirty fingers" in this, and "Were you lying? Did you kill Duela Dent?"
I think the comic tried to portray Jason as uncooperative, given how he fought back and made sarcastic remarks, but even while being accused, he told the truth, and the information came out surprisingly easily. He stated he didn't kill her, that he tried to save her and that her killer was an "alien," and a powerful, smart one. I honestly think if they had just asked politely, they would have learned a lot more.
Secondly…
"Donna has to restrain Nightwing from attacking the brash Jason Todd," "Robin however, feels no such reservation, and kicks Todd in the crotch."
In the comic, the moment they met Jason, they accused him of killing Duela; then Dick and Tim grabbed him, pinning him from both sides. Even in a situation like that, he still managed to punch Tim and kick Dick in the crotch? He only stopped because Ravager intervened. Yet the scene is portrayed as if, had Donna not held Dick back, he would have beaten Jason up?
"Brash Jason”? He voluntarily shared information with them and stopped the moment Ravager stepped in, whereas Dick was the one still struggling while Donna restrained him, ready to pick a fight. And what about Tim? He "feels no such reservations and kicks Jason?" That's when they've already stop the fight and Jason was standing there harmless. He basically proved Jason's point of them just want to pick a fight with Jason rather than really doing the investigation :) He was being incredibly petty and ridiculous. Did they really just go to see Jason to accuse him and beat him up?
If you ask me, then I'll- *quickly deleting everything I was about to say and starting to type furiously* hey, did you see that? There was this guy who approached Jason and very politely asked if he could tell him what happened regarding the Joker's daughter, and Jason said, "Sure, why not?" I just want to cry. Then he told him the whole story from start to finish. Then told him whom to go to and ask. What were the Titans doing, seriously.
