Zines at Hennepin County Library
On Saturday, September 21, 2019, Minneapolis Central Library hosted the 15th annual Twin Cities Zine Fest. 100 artists tabled at the event, with hundreds of zines available for purchase; workshops were held on making origami bookmarks and pop-ups, creating instructional zines, and 4-fold accordion comics; HCL staff DJād tunes from the Vinyl Revival collection; and visitors to the Commons room made buttons and zines and browsed HCLās circulating zine collection.Ā
Hennepin County Library staff purchased dozens of zines at the event to add to the libraryās circulating Zine Collection, which includes hundreds of zines by local artists covering a wide range of topics including activism, anarchism, feminism, gender identity and expression, mental health, the queer community, and more. New zines purchased at the TC Zine Fest will be available for checkout in the next couple months.
Browse the zine collection online in the library catalog or browse and borrow dozens of zines at Minneapolis Central, East Lake, and Hosmer Libraries. Non-circulating zines are also available in the Special Collections department at Minneapolis Central Library.

Twin Cities Zine Fest 2017 is this weekend!! Join us for the TCZF Kickoff Reading on Friday evening and on Saturday for the fest itself. Over 90 zinesters will be exhibiting their work, along with workshops, a history of comics, a doodle jam, a mobile letterpress demo, and fun activities for the whole family! CALL FOR ZINES!
Minnesota Center For Book Arts and Twin Cities Zine Fest seek zine submissions for the upcoming Free For All Zine Lounge, part of MCBAās 2017 Book Art Biennial, Shout Out: Community Intervention, Independent Publishing, & Alternative Distribution. The zine lounge is envisioned as a forest of zines highlighting local, national, and international zinesters.
Submission deadline is May 22, The Exhibit runs May 29-August 13. Zines will be added to MCBAās library afterwards.

Weāre so excited to announce our workshop schedule! These events will all take place during the Twin Cities Zine Fest, Saturday September 24th at the Walker Community United Methodist Church (3104 16th Ave S in Minneapolis). Please join us for these fascinating topics:
noon-1 pm āBuilding Community with Zines in the Twin Citiesā: An informal discussion about creating meaningful connections with others in the zine community and beyond.
1:30-2:30 pm āFancify Your Zine!ā: A skillshare where you can learn about how other zinesters make their zines visually interesting, whether with deluxe bindings or specialized printing or unique folding techniques. Bring your own work and share how you fancy up your own publications!
3-4 pm āThe Zine-ification of Roleplaying Gamesā: Ā Roleplaying games originated in Midwestern garages but grew into an industry of impenetrable accessories and expensive hardcovers. Today, zinesters are reclaiming the genre with online distribution, minimal production values, and varied genres. Come learn about roleplaying games, browse books, and even play a short game!
