Sorrowfell: marrow city guard
As the city guard for Marrow, the Relic have a very narrow remit: to guard and protect the public spaces of the city. This extends to the roads, sewers, public markets and buildings and does include fighting fires so the city never burns down. They keep the city as a whole safe but citizens are more left to their own devices. They do not solve crimes, they don’t deal with theft from homes or pockets picked. Such matters are entirely your own affair. If an entire family is slain or all the heirs save one die suddenly and the like, protecting the public can be used to investigate a situation but they seldom do so for political reasons. (The Relic operate with a charter signed by the noble families, and they can alter it.)
In general, a Relic is assigned to one part of the city and learns the byways and roadways by heart, working for 10-20 years before being too old to operate any longer in the field.
Relics operate in a fist of five guards wearing their traditional ivory armour and azure robes. Each Relic carries a light lance and a woven blade along with a peace staff. Two approach persons of interest while the other three hang back, generally.
Ivory Armour: lightweight body armour commissioned solely for the Relics.
Light lance: energy projectile. Keyed to armour.
Peace staff: wooden staff that can shift shape to become rope, grappling hook and even a very narrow bridge using several of them together. Has a stun function and is very much their preferred weapon.
Woven blade: composite short blade that can slice plasteel easily.
Retired Relics (often called Bones) join the private guard for nobles or deal with admin for the Relics, helping to run the cells - called reliquaries, as their quarry is put in them.
Bones: As nobles are somewhat exempt from the law, the Bones who do private security have an officially unofficial network and will inform nobles about how close they are to being arrested regardless of standing, and sometimes educate nobles harshly if need be. Minor nobles who murder people and think they can get away with it often suffer accidents - seldom fatal ones, but enough to be a warning.
As a system, it mostly works as the moneyed noble families tend to police each other with sanctions due to the fact that House Tsan burned to ashes centuries ago, and no one put the fire out. Because it was better for the public good that the entire House no longer existed.
Legends vs Canon: Mandalorian Culture
With The Mandalorian coming out with its second season, I thought I should address the elephant in the room: Legends Mandalorian culture is very different from Disney’s canon. There are cross-overs, but ultimately there are some glaring differences. I follow the RepComm canon and as a work around for the differences I believe The Mandalorian follows a different creed than Clan Skirata, resulting in a difference of ideals and practices. They are both valid and both real.
Some major differences are:
Removing one’s helmet: On multiple occasions, Din mentions that he will be disgraced from his tribe if he removes his helmet, and only shows his face to family. Clan Skirata, on the other hand, do not follow this creed. Since the clan is a mixed up group of ragtag clone soldiers, jedi, and any other lost soul Kal takes a liking to, they have obviously seen each other’s faces. They will not hesitate to remove their helmet in front of strangers.
Names: For the longest time, we only know Din as “The Mandalorian” and the child is solely known as “The Child.” It seems like names are kept a secret within the tribe, or that they are not freely given to strangers. Clan Skirata will not hesitate to introduce themselves and their names are well known.
Armour: Din doesn’t seem to customize or paint his armour, and his plates appear to be very shiny and new. Clan Skirata believe that various colours represent different and meaningful attributes, and paint their armour to symbolize a certain ideal. Niner’s armour, for example, is painted green in his Mandalorian AU to represent duty. Most armor pieces are handed down to family members.
I haven’t seen season two of the Mandalorian yet, so this may change. Obviously both creeds strongly believe in parenthood and adopted families, and at the core that makes them both Mandalorian. I would love to explore this idea in a thread with a Din rp blog.

Thanks to literal super geniuses living in this world, there is this kind of technology in circulation. It’s still pretty fresh, new, and only really accessible to the people and places with money for it.
Think of the technology as if it were in that phase when people were shifting from VHS to DVD. Things for both products were still being made while other, more affordable companies were still working on pushing out the more up to date product. Eventually, everyone had DVD players and VHS became obsolete.
So it’s cool for characters within the timeline to still have a regular iPhone or Android for whatever reason applies to them.
Also, the tech isn’t on a city scale with public transit and what not. Yet. I think only major cities around the world are just now starting to change.

The Blight does not wish to destroy. Neither does Providence wish to save. As the insect is from us and the sea from the stars, so is our understanding of these forces. They do not want what people want. What drives them lies beyond, below, above our knowing.
It is dangerous to enjoin them. It is dangerous to entreat them. They lie beyond our understanding and we do a wrong to ourselves and the world to give them masks we can comprehend
- from the diaries of Sedhim Hallos, Niand scholar.
Sometimes the past is a gift that the future is scared to own.
When novels snap into place...
Did over 6K last night for Flight. Sia, Leos and Cel finally have a goal (however nebulous, and despite Leos protesting). The next few scenes are part of is Sia working toward that, and a slow understanding of just how damn impressive she is in her mastery of the combative arts.
She did spent a whole novel basically comparing herself against Leos, which was entirely unfair to her given his training is far more extensive at least as far as unarmed combat goes :)) and he did have years of constant training and pushing from Knort that no one else has got. In his own way, Leos is the kind of prodigy that comes along once a generation.
But Sia is no slouch and was picked by Knort to bodyguard Leos for very good reasons. Reasons even she did not grasp. And Leos did not see this because, well, he is a prince. He just figured she knew how good she was, because he saw it. Sia coming into her own understanding of herself - both as someone trained by Knort and as Sia - nobility or not - will be a lot of fun.
