v!Avid was never human nor vampire. He was actually a cornered alley cat, a canary in a coal mine, and a lamb to the slaughter, all together in a trench coat. They try to replicate a vaguely bipedal form by standing on each other’s shoulders and attemting to mimic a rough approximation of human movement.
hi hello and welcome to i am so totally normal about vsmp episode 7.
i wrote an essay on this episode, and it will be under the cut so if you want to read it and are fine with spoilers, even though its been half a week since the episodes came out, go right ahead!
okay so i cant really speak on pyros characterization in his own videos because i havent watched his pov yet (i plan to, just not yet, i wanna wait until all of my "main povs" [scott, owen, avid, legs, abolish] are out first and then move onto whoever is left or if thats the end of the series ill watch it then), but i can kinda speak on his character as shown through my "main povs" lense. i can also speak to owens character bc see my "main povs".
with owen, i know in his episode 6, he let avid have a bit of a grace period? like he said "until avid turns someone, im not trusting him". however, throughout the course of episode six and seven, avid had continuously proved himself via stealing all of legundo's supply of holy water, attempting to turn the town beacon, and also attempting to turn the lake beacon, despite the latter being a trap. in avid's defense, i do not believe he was there for the conversation of the beacons being turned as a method of "trapping" the vampires, and, while he was there for the conversation, he was so excited to show scott, shelby and drift his new outfit that it might've slipped his mind that apo was not with the coven. (common in people with adhd, and as someone in the v!avid age range [20-21] who also has adhd, makes sense that he forgot that.) also, avid felt really manic after being bumped up to level 2 in episode 6, so that also can contribute to a lack of memory functions.
okay, besides the defense of avid, back to owen and pyro. Owen asked Pyro why he hated Avid so much, and mentioned that it might be because of jealousy, while pyro moreso stated that it was more of a "to prove myself" (which is right along the jealousy track) HOWEVER!!!! in pyro's discord server, which i have infiltrated, someone made an analysis of his actions as well there, which was less of a jealous and proving himself, and more of a he killed avid to kill himself, to reclaim the memories of what he did back in the capital when he killed his bully and to take back power over himself. So, I do believe that this was fully in character for Pyro to be motivated to kill someone, however, I do not believe it was founded in the motivation to kill Avid. Yes, Avid is arguably really gullible, but he has done nothing but prove himself and his worth with his intelligence and ability to plan ahead while also staying present in the moment. Just because he didn't turn another person the next session after he himself was turned (Like Pyro did, rather stupidly as stated in Scott's Episode 2/3) does not mean that he isn't useful to the coven as a whole.
when avid was killed by legs and apo at the lake, he went to limbo. that is a scary place, especially when you are conversing with the being that scratched you and turned your best friend. (also who is voicing the being in limbo? is it marm? very off topic question that i just had in the middle of this essay) So, when he came back from being staked and killed at the lake, especially for a (probably) manic young adult, of course he was crying and acting like a child, because to Owen and Scott and the older characters in the lore he quite literally is one. his brain isn't fully developed and as an anecdote, the amount of times where something scary has happened to me in the past few years and even this year where all ive wanted was to go home and go back to what i find comfortable and not life threatening is off the charts. its normal for someone of his age to act like that, especially when he is (probably) manic and experiencing rapid mood swings. When Avid was being nothing but helpful and encouraging to the coven and the vampily, Owen and Pyro's decision to kill him, in my opinion, was unfounded.
Onto Owen. Owen, despite being an active vampire for 200 years, has still held onto the grief he experienced when he witness Louis getting killed by the townsfolk of Oakhurst. One would think if you went through something like that, after 200 years of reflecting and grieving your partner, you would get over their death and live relatively normally, but this actually has some basis in modern psychology, funnily enough. It's really hard to get over your feelings for a specific traumatic event, and it's really easy for that to be factored into your overall worldview and feelings towards a specific place. Because so many of the current inhabitants of Oakhurst came here due to familial ties to the town, it's natural that he would harbor these unsavory feelings for the townsfolk, and specifically for avid, who had spent the entirety of the time he was a human going after vampires (due to a very realistic fear and trauma that he himself had experienced in both childhood and his present before traveling to Oakhurst) and calling them monsters (see previous parenthetical). While Avid did target mainly Scott, he also technically targeted Owen in the crossfire because of how he was acting, which makes it obvious that Owen would want Avid dead, however, as stated previously, Avid completely changed when becoming a vampire and accepting Scott's offer of being apart of the coven. He atoned for what he did and he offered apologies that Owen never really accepted. Owen doesnt need to forgive him, but he could really just accept the apology and move on. Owen's hatred for Avid seems to stem from the opinions that Avid was talking about when he didn't understand the community that vampires have and how they aren't all monsters. Owen in episode 2 saying to avid that he had "all the makings of a monster in [him]" was technically ragebait. Owen was fully and actively ragebaiting this young adult because of his trauma and his wariness of specific things because of his trauma.
So, when owen killed avid, he did the same exact thing that the townspeople did to him 200 years ago. He found that excuse to kill him (Pyro wanting to kill someone, and the excuse that Avid was too weak to fight back due to him dying previously to Legs and Apo, much like how the townspeople forged occult evidence and said that they "found it on Louis' person" as an excuse to kill him) and he went through with the plan, killing Avid. He actively did to Avid what the townspeople did to Louis. He found that excuse and killed him based on no solid evidence that he was an active weak link to the coven.
I saw someone say I think in Pyro's server, or in Avid's stream earlier, that Shelby saw/felt what happened to Avid the hardest, because she was his sire. She saw what Owen and Pyro did to him first hand, because of that sire/fledgling connection. The dynamic of Shelby and Avid is the same, if not extremely similar dynamic that Louis and Owen had before Louis was killed, and it is a direct question to the answer "What if the townspeople killed Owen after he woke up instead of Louis? What would Louis have done in Owen's place?". We will be getting an answer to that question with both Scott and Shelby next episode, and I am so excited to see that answer.
Owen's prejudices towards humans, and Pyro's desire to take control over his life once more are definitely motivators to kill people, and in Owen's case, to kill avid in particular, but both of their motivators to kill someone do not add up to even consider killing Avid himself.
TL;DR: the murder of Avid by Pyro and Owen, in my opinion and based on the evidence presented, is not valid and should not have happened. i am coping.
*Metztli lingers by the door, looking at all the guests, pale, beautiful, some of different broods or packs, yet hers is grey as a widows ghost wallowing in her sorrow, blending in to the wails of the spirits who passed in Oakhurst the town of death, from a kind man burned at the pyre to the grief of his love, a betrayal of the brood to its avenging by one fledglings own hand on her Sire, and then their were the humans, full of rage and broken hope, resignation and sorrow...the story of this place was not happy...yet some left bittersweet with the promise of new life, unsure of whenever to even join this feast lest be looked on with strange eyes of distrust, Metztli looked on still*
[Metztli means Moon]

Thinking about Avid specifically from a neurodivergent perspective.
Thinking about how no matter where he went, he always seemed to be hated by everyone around him, whether human or vampire, however their circumstances changed, however good his intentions were, he just couldn’t get anyone- aside from one or two select people- to stop disliking him.
Thinking about how his entire ideology and behaviour and worldview was completely transformed when he joined the castle and vampires and humans alike still found him weird and annoying.
Thinking about Owen’s justification for killing him being “I honestly just didn’t like the guy”.
Thinking about how that’s probably how a lot of people justified mistreating me over the years.
Anyway I love you AvidMC, thank you for making such a compelling and tragic and relatable character.
Vampires smp AU where everything is the same EXCEPT Scott was never a vampire, Avid is. He still acts the same but is a vampire because I think that's really funny.
Might write a fic so give me ideas to add on to this!!
