So, Iām a visual processor.
I donāt like when people try to share things with me by reading them aloud, Iād rather they just send it to me or show me so I can read it.
Iād rather read a book on the subject than listen to a speech about it. The list goes on. And Iāve always known that this is my preferred method of absorbing information. Itās not that I canāt process information audibly, itās just easier when I have visual aids.
However, something I didnāt know until I was 25, was how watching movies affected me. I came home to my parents after being away for some time, and was going to watch a movie with my mom. She asked if it was okay if she put subtitles on, as she struggles to hear certain frequencies and it makes it harder for her to understand whatās going on without the subtitles to help her.
I said sure, no problem, I didnāt care either way.
Except that about fifteen minutes into a movie I had seen numerous times before, I realized that I was seeing and processing things I had never before noticed.
I donāt really have a big thesis plot to this story, I just wanted to share a bit of a personal anecdote and say that subtitles are important for many reasons, and I wish it were more normalized.
I still watch movies in theatres, but I find that I miss a lot of what is going on compared to when I watch something with subtitles.
