I have a thought about Vil. I could be wrong, but I wanted to throw it out there. Also, if anyone has evidence for or against my theory, feel free to elaborate. We like healthy discussions here lol:
My theory is that Vil is a touchy person, especially to the people he loves. The reason he doesn’t do it often is because of PR training and being conscious about his reputation. If he doesn’t monitor his behavior, it could not only negatively impact him but also his friends, family, and fans. Vil also covers it up well because he’s so self-disciplined. It’s not a problem for him.
My evidence for this is are the few times where Vil becomes physically affectionate because is so happy that he forgets, doesn’t care, or nobody else is around.
Example 1: Book 6 Kiss and Hug Scene. I don’t think I have to explain more, but I will. If this were any other dorm that came to save the corresponding overblot member, they would not throw themselves at the others (minus Kalim. We’ve already established that he’s a touchy and sociable person by nature, and he loves Jamil).
Heartslabyul? Trey would give Riddle a hug, and that’s probably it in terms of physical affection
Savanaclaw? …I don’t remember what happens at the end of the Savanaclaw sequence in Book 7, but that would be the reactions. For the life of me, I cannot remember. Someone fill in the gap pls
Octavinelle? The only touching would be Floyd squeezing Azul. Azul would try to avoid it so no touching
We’ve already established Scarabia and Pomefiore.
Ignihyde? …idk… I’m kinda on the fence, but I think I’m leaning away from physical affection. I imagine it would similar to whenever he reunites with Ortho in Book 7 at some point. However, I haven't read that in a long time. It could be inaccurate
Diasomnia? Ok, I can see them hugging each other. They love each other a lot. No kiss though
Regardless, Vil went into European physical affection levels
Example 2: (here’s where the arguments start to get weaker but still relevant lol) Bean Day Event ending. Rook and Vil hug really tight, which doesn’t happen that often. Plus, both of them are exhausted in a good way, so another moment where he lets his guard down
Example 3?: Pomefiore reunion in Book 7? They must’ve hugged. I don't remember, but I can't imagine they didn't
I have some speculations that support my theory. However, it’s on shaky ground, and I don’t want to dig to see if my thought process is solid.
Vil is a physical person. He puts a lot of effort into maintaining his body. Obviously, that's not the only thing. However, it is a huge part of it. I think because he's so conscious and values the physical world, he would probably be more inclined to like that type of affection.
This could all be wrong, but it's just a thought. Let me know what you think!!

hiii I know it's a little late but I was wondering if I could request a character analysis for vil schoenheit? :'))
Vil Schoenheit: A Psychological Analysis
Disclaimer: Although this post is written by a professional, it is not intended to serve as a formal diagnosis. Rather, it is a character analysis of Vil Schoenheit, created out of personal interest and passion for world-building. In psychological practice, accurate assessment should never be based solely on external observation.
Author Notes: It is essential to understand that having narcissistic traits does not make someone a bad person. In psychology, narcissism exists on a spectrum, and many of its features - such as ambition, confidence, and a desire for excellence - can be healthy and adaptive when balanced with empathy and self-awareness.
Introduction
Vil Schoenheit is introduced as the housewarden of Pomefiore, a dorm modeled on the Evil Queen from Snow White. He is described as “a young man of striking beauty” who considers himself “the fairest of all,” and he spares no effort in his “unending pursuit of beauty”. In the game’s narrative, Vil is a famous actor and model (over 5 million followers on social media) who embodies the Evil Queen archetype - proud, demanding perfection, and quick to judge others for any imperfection.
Vil’s background is shaped by his family and career. Raised by a famous actor father (stage name Eric Venue), Vil began acting as a child, often cast as villains or bullies in school plays and TV shows. This early career success brought him praise, but always as the antagonist; he desperately wanted to be the hero but was never given those lead roles. While this gave Vil pride in his lineage, it also instilled a deep hunger for approval and fear of falling short of expectations. In gameplay, Vil frequently references his rigorous training regimen and beauty routines, underscoring his narrative role as the vain, perfection-obsessed dorm leader of Pomefiore.
Personality
Vil’s personality can be analyzed through modern trait theory and classical archetypes. He exhibits extreme conscientiousness and perfectionism: he is highly disciplined in diet, exercise, and grooming, and scorns laziness or carelessness in himself or others. Indeed, the wiki notes he’s very fixated on beauty, acts and behaves in a regal-like manner, and is strict with both himself and others. This suggests high conscientiousness and openness (creative vanity), but low agreeableness (critical of others) and likely elevated neuroticism (sensitive to criticism). He portrays a confident, even arrogant exterior - he openly boasts of his flawless appearance and expects admiration. At the same time, his calm, polished facade may mask anxiety about failing to meet impossible standards.
From a Jungian archetype perspective, Vil embodies the Villain/Queen persona (the Evil Queen’s vanity) but with hidden vulnerability. He outwardly projects the “Regal Ruler” archetype - authoritative, proud, sovereign over beauty. But his inner narrative aligns with the Shadow or Wounded Hero - he bears the pain of being overshadowed and typecast. In Erikson’s psychosocial terms, Vil is at the Identity vs. Role Confusion stage. His crisis is “Who am I?” and “What role am I destined for?” - having been a child actor hero-villain, he struggles to forge a stable identity beyond the “fairest” title. In adolescence he likely wrestled with industry vs. inferiority (mastering acting skills vs. feeling inferior as only villain roles). This appears resolved externally (he excelled through hard work) but left scars: he projects his self-worth onto external success and image.
The Big Five traits probably break down roughly as:
High Conscientiousness – extremely organized, disciplined, perfectionistic about appearance and training.
High Extraversion – comfortable performing on stage and commanding attention as a social media influencer (he thrives on being looked at and admired).
High Openness – creative in style (designing couture, makeup, etc.) and ambitious in goals (aims for “unlimited beauty” success).
Low Agreeableness – often critical and dismissive of others (he scolds freshmen, teases Leona, and has little patience with “sloppy” conduct).
High Neuroticism – anxious about his performance and image (he obsesses over perfection and reacts strongly when undermined or envious of Neige).
Overall, his personality mixes a grandiose, charismatic outward style with a secretive, insecure core. He can be categorized as resembling the “Perfectionist” or “Narcissistic” archetype (in narrative terms, the Evil Queen), but also the young prodigy with hidden self-doubt.
Coping Mechanisms
Vil copes with stress and competition by doubling down on control and routine. This aligns with the idea of sublimation or compensation: he channels fear of failure into extraordinary self-discipline. If stressed, he often preaches effort and resilience rather than seeking help, as in the duo attack of his Dorm Uniform SSR card, where he tells Leona “I don’t need anyone dragging me down.” This line suggests a reaction formation: Vil outwardly denies any need for support or pity, masking his private frustration.
Psychologically, Vil displays some classic defense mechanisms. Faced with the rejection of never being cast as a hero, he appears to use projection: he views others’ success (like Neige’s) as an external threat and rationalizes his resentment as jealousy of Neige rather than examining his own fears. (In Book 5, when his tech suggests Neige is the “most beautiful,” Vil immediately resolves to act against him.) Similarly, his attempt to poison Neige during VDC is a form of reaction formation/displacement: he lashes out at Neige out of fear of losing, rather than accepting his own limits. On a cognitive level, Vil’s thinking reflects perfectionistic cognitive distortions: all-or-nothing (“if I’m not the best, I’m worthless”), selective focus on failure (ignoring his hard work), and catastrophizing small flaws (seeing acne or a misplaced accessory as unforgivable). In CBT terms, he likely holds rigid beliefs (“I must always be perfect to be valued”), and when reality falls short (Neige winning roles, accidents happening), he responds with anger or rule-bending rather than acceptance.
However, Vil does not collapse under pressure - he retains remarkable composure. He often covers anxiety with patronizing confidence. This suggests a coping style of dissociation (distancing) or sublimation (turning distress into poise). He also uses rationalization: he claims that hard work is the only path to success, justifying his obsession and dismissing any hint of “luck” or inability. In sum, Vil handles stress by double down on perfection - controlling whatever he can (his appearance, training) and projecting negativity onto anyone who threatens his self-image.
The Other Woman (Neige Leblanche)
Vil’s recurring rivalry with Neige Leblanche is central to his psychology. Neige, a beautiful, naive actor, often gets all the hero roles and public affection that Vil craves. Vil sees Neige not as a friend but as a threat to his status. The lore explicitly states that Neige “always gets more of the lead roles than Vil,” and that Vil “grew to despise Neige”, knowing he could never defeat him through hard work alone. In contrast, Neige secretly admires Vil, calling to be his friend despite his contempt. This dynamic - Neige as the favored “hero” and Vil as the spurned “villain” - wounds Vil’s self-image deeply.
Psychologically, being the second choice reinforces Vil’s underlying insecurity. No matter how flawless Vil is, someone outshines him, which can lead to feelings of inferiority. He copes by grandstanding, trying to belittle Neige, but privately he seethes. The stress of this rivalry pushes him toward counterproductive behaviors (poisoning, overblot), indicating that it fuels both his perfectionism and desperation. This ongoing dynamic inflates his narcissistic front - he becomes more arrogant and demanding - while internally it erodes his self-esteem. The punishment of defeat and the sting of always being second likely contribute to shame and rage described in theories of vulnerable narcissism (where failures trigger deep humiliation).
Child Actor and Early Fame
Vil’s childhood as an actor plays a huge role in his development. Erikson’s stage of Industry vs. Inferiority (middle childhood) is relevant: he was celebrated for his skill (earning praise from crowds and a loving father) but never for the “right” thing - he was paid to be bad. It explicitly started to bother Vil, yet he kept training tirelessly to try to land a hero role. This likely instilled both confidence in effort and fear of intrinsic unworthiness. He learned that no matter how hard he worked, he was rejected in favor of someone else, sowing seeds of envy and frustration.
Furthermore, his father’s career as an actor reinforced the idea that performance equals value. A supportive father who read him fairy tales may have taught young Vil to admire and emulate the “Beautiful Queen” persona. Having a famous parent and early spotlight can easily lead to identity fusion with the actor role. Vil’s every birthday and event is still “celebrated” as a performance, and he never learned to disassociate from his on-stage persona. As a result, he has trouble relating as a normal teen. In therapy terms, a child actor like Vil might develop performance anxiety and equate mistakes with personal failure.
In modern terms, we might say Vil developed coping strategies (and personality traits) as an outcome of “early success syndrome”: constant attention taught him to crave adoration, while each setback (being typecast or losing roles) taught him that flawlessness is the only safe option. His perfectionism is thus twofold: outward pressure (from father and industry) and inward fear (aversion to being the inadequate one).
Narcissism or Insecurity?
Vil straddles the line between grandiose narcissism and deep vulnerability. Outwardly, he often displays classic narcissistic traits: he has an inflated self-image (calls himself “Queen”, demands admiration), expects special treatment, and frequently exhibits arrogance and haughtiness. He demonstrates a sense of entitlement and often blames others for daring to criticize him or not recognize his greatness. These align with the grandiose narcissism profile (characterized by extroversion and overt self-importance).
However, Vil also shows hallmarks of vulnerable narcissism. He is highly sensitive to any threat to his self-esteem: losing to Neige or being perceived as imperfect provokes not just annoyance but internal humiliation. His envy is raw and personal. Vulnerable narcissists have high neuroticism, hypersensitivity to criticism, oscillate between feeling superior and feeling shame and have a victim complex. Vil fits this: he ferociously denies any flaws, but when privately confronted with them, he becomes insecure. The wiki even notes he “manages to keep his emotions under wraps extremely well,” suggesting an underlying vulnerability masked by calm vanity.
Thus, Vil’s strong exterior likely serves to protect a shaky self-image. His perfectionism and demand for admiration function as a protective façade. In sum, Vil exhibits a blend of grandiose (public confidence, entitlement) and vulnerable (jealousy, fear of failure) narcissism. It would be simplistic to say he is purely “a narcissist” - his vanity is real, but so is his fear of not being enough. The modern view is that narcissism often combines both presentations: Vil’s inner diaries might reveal as much shame as the mirror demands applause.
Possible Diagnosis
Vil Schoenheit meets several criteria often associated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD): pervasive grandiosity in self-concept, a constant need for admiration, envy of others, and a lack of empathy when he belittles rivals. The DSM-5 lists features like having a grandiose sense of self-importance, being preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success or beauty, requiring excessive admiration, and feeling envious of others - many of which fit Vil’s profile. His self-descriptions and documented envy of Neige align closely with these criteria.
He also shows signs of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality (Anankastic) tendencies: an intense preoccupation with order, perfection, and control (as seen in his regimented lifestyle and difficulty relaxing). His self-worth seems contingent on achieving perfection, which could indicate a maladaptive perfectionism beyond normal high standards.
This will be the third part of my analysis series on the Twisted Wonderland’s overblot character songs. As a small disclaimer, I do not actually speak or read Japanese so I will be primarily using translations by @mysteryshoptls as well as a Japanese to English dictionary website called Jisho to help me along. This post will be covering Vil’s “Crépuscule” song. The rest of the analysis will be under the cut due to length. Please read at your own risk because there will likely be spoilers within the song with regard to the character’s development and story.
It’s worth noting here, at the very start of all this, that crépuscule is French for ‘dusk’ or ‘twilight.’ With dusk and/or twilight of course being the time between sunset and nightfall. Symbolically it can be understood as indicating transitions, a beginning, or an ending. Importantly, twilight and/or dusk are also often treated as a time where the boundaries between worlds can blur as well as being a time that can indicate a certain sense of melancholy and/or nostalgia. The fact that Vil’s song name is a time of day that is viewed as a period during which the boundaries between worlds can blur paired with his Snow White-based connection to the magic mirror which, within the world of Twisted Wonderland allows people to cross between places, is particularly intriguing. Especially considering that the Prefect/Yuu themselves came from another world through inexplicable means. However, whether Vil having his character song be named this way may or may not indicate anything regarding the future story.
Of all the things I could ever want,
There's only ever been one thing
Yet he always claims that seat.
I am the most suited for it,
It’s where I should be instead.
So the start of this song is obviously discussing how Vil truly wants only one thing but can’t get it because of one, singular, person. Neige. In Vil’s eyes, he ought to be deemed the most beautiful. He’s worked hard for that position, he has the skill and talents, but he never gets it. Instead, Neige does. This is a clear reflection of Vil’s situation with typecasting. Much like with the roles for heroes or protagonists, he always gets passed over for largely senseless reasons which are discussed in his Overblot flashback sequence where some folks literally describe him as ‘too perfect’ and even ‘unrelatable.’ I’ve written an entire analysis on how it's very interesting that Twisted Wonderland chose to show this negative side of talent via not just Vil, but all of the overblot guys so I won’t exhaust the point. In short, Vil’s talent and beauty are, of course, strengths, but they are also weaknesses due to the way talent is sometimes viewed as making someone a little more than what be perceived as normal and thereby unrelatable as well as someone to avoid.
When the world speaks of beauty,
Say those words only for me.
Instead of him, who only flashes a pretty smile,
Give it to me, who has persevered through everything.
But if this wish cannot come true,
Then let everything
All dissolve into ugliness.
So here Vil is headed directly into his overblot. But the phrasing here is interesting. Rather than showing the incredible rage one would expect, the phrasing is softer. Still demanding, but there is a certain sorrow in his voice. Like he’s hurt that it has hit this point. That he’s even having to ask this. Because sure, Neige is charming, but hasn’t Vil worked harder than him? The interesting thing here is that despite how Vil emphasizes the effort and perseverance he has shown, he mentions within the Ignihyde section of the Twisted Wonderland main story that Neige has persevered in his own way as well, indicating there is more depth to this interaction between the two of them then mere hatred. This could be a reason for the title of this song. Since twilight/dusk are often used to evoke a sense of melancholy, it could be indicating that Vil himself isn’t actually filled with just rage towards Neige. Instead, Vil may actually be rather saddened by the situation since both he and Neige have put in the effort, but there is no way both can win. At least not with the way things have panned out thus far.
It is worth noting that at the end of this section of the song, Vil is fully prepped for overblotting. Bluntly put, if he cannot have this singular wish, then it's not worth it. All this beauty he has strived for and built up can just dissolve away into ugliness. These lines in particular directly callback to Vil’s overblot scene (pre-transformation) where he is all but screaming for people to look away from him because he’s realized what he’s done (i.e. almost poisoning Neige) and that he has become the villain he is type-cast as and has truly become hideous. This is of course a very extreme notion, but this same level of extremity can be seen in all of the overblots.
Shine bright,
Pierce through everything,
With a beauty that freezes all.
A small flower (If he were to ever―)
Never awakening (―Fall into a slumber).
Here we have Vil building himself back, and the lyrics really are rather inspirational in many ways. It’s basically saying that Vil will shine bright and pierce through everything, even the things that are currently in his way, with a beauty that freezes everything. This is followed directly by him likening another man, most likely Neige, to a small flower that will never awaken and has fallen into an eternal slumber.
This could very well be Vil’s thought process when he’s plotting to poison Neige, but again, this is interesting. It does not have the rage one would expect from someone who hates Neige as much as Vil is implied to. In fact, Vil likening Neige to a flower and himself to a freezing beauty indicates that he recognizes that Neige is beautiful in his own right. Indeed, both ice and flowers are beautiful, but one is more commonly welcomed while the other is gazed at from afar. And is that not how Neige and Vil are treated? Both beautiful, talented men, but one is approachable and ‘relatable’ enough to be the hero while the other is deemed ‘too special’ and daunting so obviously he must be the villain.
When the world speaks of me,
Say I'm the beautiful one.
Before everything eventually fades away,
I'll burn as bright as my soul allows me.
After the curtain falls,
Look at me,
Only look at me forever more.
And here we have it again. Vil asking to be recognized as beautiful. The truly beautiful one. Not Neige. Him. He wants to be chosen over Neige. Something that has been reflected several times within his story whenever Neige does put in an appearance.
Notably, the section involving the lines “Before everything eventually fades away, I'll burn as bright as my soul allows me” is particularly interesting. It almost indicates, in a way similar to Jamil’s, that Vil recognizes that overblotting is truly dangerous and cannot be sustained. But, rather than backing away from that risk the way Jamil does, this lyric implies that Vil is going to embrace those final moments and ‘burn as bright as his soul allows.’ The fact that this is followed by a discussion of the curtain falling almost makes me wonder if Vil is accepting his defeat here, but still refusing to surrender. Like he knows he can’t win, because when does the villain ever best the hero? But, even though he knows that, he is still determined to lose on his own terms and blaze brightly until the very end. Then, of course, Vil ends this section with the final request to be looked at over Neige. His curtain call may have come, and he isn’t the winner, but he still wants to picked over Neige.
Mirror, mirror, whisper to me,
The name of the fairest one of all.
Now this section is a fun callback to Snow White, the story at the heart of Vil’s character inspiration. It’s worth noting here that the music is softer for this final section and trails off, as this is the end of the song. This is important though, because it shows that while Vil knows he’s losing, again, to Neige, he’s still there and almost taking it with a certain grace that was not indicated by his overblot. This could have something to do with the fact that implication that our overblotted boys are not fully themselves while overblotted. Rather, they are experiencing something akin to a magically fueled psychotic break. That, however, remains to be seen until we learn more about the specifics of overblotting and what they entail.
A misconception I see a lot about Vil is that his overblot was triggered by jealousy towards Neige but that is extremely reductive of his character as well as his hardships on top of being untrue. So I am going to dissect his overblot and what truly led to it.
1- Vil was never jealous of Neige’s beauty or individuality.
A lot of people believe that Vil is envious of the notion of beauty that Neige embodies but that is canonically untrue. Vil has always pursued a notion of beauty that spoke to him and was true to him. Vil and Neige have always been opposites and Vil has absolutely no interest in ever mimicking Neige. Vil is extremely confident in his skills and appearance. Vil doesn’t wish to be like Neige. He wishes to reach the heights that Neige has. Vil wants to be acknowledged as the fairest one of all as himself, as Vil Schoenheit. Vil is always true to himself and he makes a point of being authentic.
2- Vil’s true goal is to stay on stage until the end of the show not just being the fairest one of all.
Vil’s obsession with beauty is only a means to an end when it comes to his true goal.
Vil believes that if he becomes the fairest one of all it will grant him the opportunity to stay the longest on stage, allowing him to finally play the hero. Vil has been convinced that he lacks something and that is why he can’t be the hero.
So he spent his life trying to make up for it until he reached his breaking point at the VDC and it finally struck him then that no matter how hard he tried he still couldn’t seem to reach his goal.
Furthermore, it has been made clear on multiple occasions throughout the game that Vil’s notion of beauty goes way beyond looks. Beauty is a lifestyle to Vil. Beauty embodies his body, his mind and even his soul which is specifically why he overblots. Vil cares about self-growth in every possible aspect of his life even if it seems to be driven by his looks. This also makes perfect sense when you think about these extracts:
Vil was conditioned since he was young to believe that something about his appearance gave off a villainous vibe. It is therefore very unsurprising that he would fixate on becoming the most beautiful. If villains are associated with ugliness/badness and heroes are associated with beauty/goodness then logically if he aims to become the most beautiful in every way he should be able to earn the hero role.
3- Vil didn’t overblot because of envy, Vil overblot because he couldn’t forgive himself for being ugly.
Vil’s overblot has never been about envy only. In fact, he only overblots after he realises how ugly what he is about to do is.
Vil has a strong moral compass and he hates cutting corners, it’s his pet peeve. Someone who would stoop as low as he did isn’t worthy of the fairest one of all title by his standards. Vil’s overblot is about him crumbling under the weight of his expectations and his downfall being witnessed by those around him. That is why at his lowest he believes that eradicating all competition will make him the most beautiful along with making sure that those who saw his ugliness can never tell the tale.
Vil is tired of having spent a life trying his best to still not achieve his dream so he took drastic measures in his desperation.
I, an ENFJ (Libra), decided to ask my dearest friend, an amateur psychologist and resident horoscope expert to analyse what a relationship with a fellow ENFJ (Aries) would be like [ Vil ]
Her analysis was so incredible I had to share it! Her analysis of Vil was so amazing just from the few facts gotten from the Personality Database profile of Vil, it could be useful for twst writers struggling with his character as it described him perfectly
Without further a due, please enjoy!
"Well I would usually say that people with same personality types don't work well together
HOWEVER
Considering the fact that both of you are enfjs (meaning your dom function is Fe) I strongly believe this relationship dynamic could work and here's why
Both of you are very compassionate, empathetic, nurturing and understanding + possibly good at communicating which means you'll settle arguments and disagreements pretty easily
Both of you have a ni aux function which will almost seem like you know exactly what the other one is thinking due to having the same perceiving functions
Which obviously creates a deeper, more meaningful bond between you two, think of a dynamic where person A always finishes person B's sentences and vice versa
Now speaking of enneagrams, his enneagram is type 3 which means that his worst fear is feeling worthless/being perceived as a useless person who contributes absolutely nothing to the society and therefore
He's always striving for success, he does things mainly to feel valuable and worthwhile. If this type is unbalanced, he could become a workaholic even
Now his subtype is type 4 and type fours are
Actually very creative people, think of infps, they're very sadistic but creative people (Vincent Van Gogh, Virginia Woolf etc)
Their worst fear is not having an identity so
A 3w4 can be seen as quite intense in a way, but also very intelligent
Which brings us to the choleric/melancholic type of vibe we have going on
Now when I say "choleric temperament" I'm the first person you should think of
Which means
That he is most likely a very short-tempered person with frequent emotional outbursts
These people often feel every single emotion very intensely, they get overly excited about little things, minor things can set them off balance
Such as someone chewing loudly
Now melaholic temperament is there to balance it all out
Melancholic people have normal reactions, nothing too intense, nothing too vague, they're often the life of the party, radiating good positive vibes, can be considered very empathetic and fun to be around
Which brings us to his aries sun of course, I dont think there's much I can say about this except
That you having an aries moon really compliments your ship dynamic, I feel like you can understand him on a deeper level because of it
I hope I made sense"
P.S. While she does not follow twst, she encompassed everything I love about Vil just through her psychology knowledge and I adore that so much, she’s really incredible
Everyone please send your love and compliments to my dear friend Dani!

So, I have a lot of Vil fanfics in the works, right? So much so that the Rook x Reader fanfic I was writing turned into a Vil one. Honestly, it was frustrating. However, it got me thinking about why I like writing for Vil. I thought I'd explain.
Vil is like my Epel. Vil wants to see Epel improve, and I want to see Vil improve. He has so much potential, but it's going to waste! It's ridiculous. Pomefiore is about bettering yourself. He should follow his dorm's code of conduct by focusing on communication skills.
Another thing I like about Vil is he'd be less resistant than Epel. In Chapter 5, Epel has a big inferiority complex surrounding his masculinity. Because of that, he's resistant to Vil's suggestions. On the other hand, Vil values improving oneself above all. In Chapter 6, Vil told Idia that even if there's a 1% chance that something will work, you should go for it. You can say you tried by the end. If you didn't, you wouldn't know if it worked. (I could be totally wrong about that quote, so please correct me if I am.) That's Vil's mindset. He's willing to try different things if it will help improve himself. That's an attractive quality. It's refreshing to write someone so willing to better themselves. In my fanfics, I like to bring out that latent potential.
Another reason I think he would be willing is because nobody calls him out in Chapter 5. At least not in a way that he’s receptive to. Deuce semi-calls him out after Epel runs out. However, Ace sides with Vil. It pushes Deuce to become reactive. Vil is a logical person. He tends to write off other's emotions, especially during Chapter 5. In that chapter, Vil is a master at rationalizing his behavior towards others. He's intimidating and confident. He uses logic to override, demean, and invalidate other's emotions. It's an awful and effective way to shut up an opposing party. Vil portrays himself as always being right. It seems like he's infallible. He can't be swayed or wrong, so people don't challenge him. He'll shred them with his logic. For others, it's not worth the effort. He displays a lot of toxic narcissistic behaviors in the chapter. It makes you wonder if you're crazy for feeling such emotions because he seems so self-assured. It's classic gaslighting. He sucks in that chapter. Vil becomes much better and more considerate in the later chapters, though. It's endearing watching him care about his Pomefiore group so much. He came a long way from being self-absorbed to valuing his friendships. It's part of why I love him. He's the only person to overblot that apologizes and compensates the victims. Despite his progress, he still has ways to improve. That's what I like to do in my fanfics.
Let's also talk about Vil's communication style, because that's the main aspect he should improve. In Chapter 5, Vil is overly harsh because he's stressed. He reverts to what he knows best. His behavior comes from the environment he was in as a child. The entertainment industry is brutal and unkind. Based on his communication style, it's clear he received that kind of treatment. I imagine there's also a level of "I had to go through all that criticism and pain. If I could put up with it, you can too." That's why he's so quick to give a harsh sentence. It's not healthy. However, that's what he experienced the most. Although his dad loves and cares about him (i'm like 90% sure. i haven't read that event, but he seems like the type lol), I don't think he shielded Vil a lot from the abusive aspects. It's clear by how callous Vil can be. I don't blame or fault Vil's dad for this, either. The entertainment industry's toxic behavior bleeds everywhere. There's only so much a parent can do to shield their kid. Besides, the important part is what happens after the trauma. Vil has a good and loving relationship with his dad. That's what's important.
So, in Chapter 5, Vil is fully absorbed in himself and his problems. He's not thinking about other people. He doesn't care about how they feel. The only way to snap him out of this state is to appeal to his desires. I won't tell you the different ways to do this because that's in my fanfics, but that's the basic way to get Vil to listen in stressful situations.
I also connect with his character a lot. A theater kid who has unrealistic and high expectations of themselves. Someone who's exhausted but continues pushing themself to the brink because they won't be enough otherwise. A person prone to burnout but doesn't have time for it. They have to keep changing and improving themselves to remain relevant and important. Someone with such a packed schedule they don't have time for friends outside of their activities. A person who's supposed to be strong, so whenever a problem happens, they try to solve it themself. It often goes awry, but sometimes it works. Either way, it's traumatic. I see a lot of myself in Vil. At least I did.
I became a better person after I left the environment that pushed me to act that way. I learned to slow down and realize I am enough by being myself. It's ok to go at my own pace when learning things. I don't have to be perfect or the best to be important and loved. I can have fun with friends outside of the activities I do. It's ok to have fun and relax around other people. I don't have to be perfect all the time. I discovered I like writing more than acting. However, I still love the performing arts. It's always been one of my outlets. It was why I was able to handle my childhood. Through all of this self-improvement, I became a better person. I was able to overcome some of my self-destructive and unhelpful behaviors. Obviously, I still struggle with some of these aspects, but I have the help I need. I have a good support system (like Vil gets after Chapter 5).
When I write for Vil, I write to help him become a better person. The biggest thing he lacks is interpersonal skills. That's my specialty. I'm fantastic at conflict management, voicing my feelings, and interpersonal communication. My skills help Vil reach his full potential. I want to help him. He's willing to learn to improve himself. That's why I feel so passionate about him. In real life, not many people take my suggestions regarding self-improvement. It's a great joy to write someone who's not only willing but will give it their all. He reminds me of myself in that way. When I first learned about some of my most invaluable skills, I threw myself into it too. I imagine Vil doing the same.
Same anon is back again. Just wanted to ask about how you're doing lately!!
Please don't forget to take care of yourself (and don't stress yourself out too much please~)
I hope everything is going well for you! <3
And.. question! because. Well. Why not lol? Who's your favourite twst character? I'm not sure, but I guess it's Vil? I'm a little curious lol~
Anywahs. I hope you're doing alright. Feel free to take your time at writing and such. Don't rush yourself, Kay??
I’m better now that you’re here! But generally, I’m good. Could be better, but I’m trying to improve at some real life stuff. I’m also on my period so ouch. Also, off my adhd meds rn. However, I did do a quick edit sweep of this post, so I think it’s decent. Want to reply out there before I go to sleep
Also, I swear your little asks are the only reason I keep coming back to Riddle’s Dreaming of You lol. U’re a saint. Keep the questions about twst coming. U can probably even ask me what I think about different characters too. That’d help me get back into twst I think. I love talking about characters and character analysis lol
Anon, u picked the right option and asked me a question. Good job! I’m proud of u and thank u so much! I love talking and texting lol. Feel free to dm me btw. I don’t bite. Besides, I’ve already deemed u my friend, since you’ve helped me so much in terms of redirecting my attention back to my beautiful Riddle fanfic. That means u get exclusive access to unreleased content if u dm me! In addition, I’ll probably end up writing a whole fanfic in the chat. It happens with every online friend of mine. Again, if u want that, dm me! You’ve ignited a small flame in my heart regarding twst. Feel free to fan it before it fizzles out.
…I sound like a cross between a car salesman and Rook, which inevitably brings me to answer your question!
My favorite character is actually Rook! But Vil is my second favorite obviously. I love them both! However, our favorite hunter always speaks more to me in terms of mystery, hidden depth, and poetry. If you can’t tell, I can embody Rook very quickly when I think or talk about him. The “flames” line came out of nowhere simply because I was about to talk about him. It wasn’t planned nor have I been writing like that for my MDZS or Death Note fanfics. That’s how easy Rook is for me.
I think one of the reasons I like the Pomefiore vice leader so much is, again, his hidden depth. I think of my fanfics as puzzles. The harder the puzzle is, the more interested I am. Now that sounds like Near from Death Note (the adhd brain jump appears).
As for Vil, he tends to speak to some of the narcissistic trauma I endured as a child (I’m totally ok though! I’ve recovered. That’s why I’m so open to talk about it). Smacking some sense into him in my fanfics is extremely cathartic. Most narcissists don’t change, so seeing Vil’s actions line up with his words and desire to improve no matter what, it seems realistic that he would want to alter his behavior. It heals my soul a little bit every time I lovingly smack him around. I want to show a more real side to Vil. The one who struggles to improve on an aspect he’s never worked on before. Vil orients himself to the physical world much more than anything else. Obviously, he employs logic and critical thinking skills as well. Even then, it’s not emotionally conscious. He maintains his body to a T. He created his own skincare brand by physically playing around with the formula. Even when using his logic, he tends to apply it toward physical activities and practicalities. He’s a very hands on, practical person. (That’s why I think he’d love physical touch, but that’s beside the point.)
The realm of emotions is so clearly foreign to the model that it makes me put my head in my hands and cringe. As a person who is in tune with psychology and interpersonal communication, it’s extremely easy for me to create stories that focus on developing that aspect of Vil.
Wow, considering how much I talked about Vil vs Rook, I understand why you’d think Vil is my favorite. So, I’ll talk about Rook a little more in contrast to Vil. They very much compliment each other and their relationship is very interesting to watch.
I suppose the appeal of Rook is he helps behind the scenes. While he acts showy and adds a ton of flare, it also allows him to completely conceal himself when he’s sneaking. People expect him to walk in to a room spouting poetry, so when he doesn’t and appears behind you, it’s an extra surprise. It just adds another layer to his stealth. It’s actually a tactic I used in my youth, so I connect with that extremely well.
Rook also loves to help people. Again, his help is more subtle than Vil’s blunt and often scalding comments. He really fill Vil’s faults in that area. Rook knows how to navigate emotions much better than Vil. Regardless, the hunter is still very much physically oriented. He had to hone those skills to survive. Information is the key to taking down an opponent. That’s something I also learned as a kid to survive some of that narcissistic abuse. I relate to him in that way.
Jumping to a different aspect of him, I find his facade fascinating. He plays the role of a hunter, yet it’s implied by his behavior that his biggest fear is being hunter. By extension, it also means the fear of truly seen. As a fanfic writer, that aspect is an easy dynamic to play with because it’s inherently a internal conflict. Rook does want to be seen and connect with others, but there’s a combination of fear of probably endangering his friends if they know too much about what his family does and the fear of the unknown. That’s why he’s much more comfortable in the outside observer role. That’s also something I relate to. I tend to be on the outside of friend groups because I don’t like the drama. I’m open to helping one on one with people in them, like Rook, but generally I’m on the periphery. I enjoyed seeing our favorite hunter divulge more of himself in chapter 6 to actively become closer to the others. I think he loved the experience of being in a team, especially when he’s so used to being alone (mood for me lol). In addition to Vil’s overblot scare, probably learning he needs more support than he originally thought, he wants to maintain some of that connection. With all the Pomefiore trio has been through, who’s a better candidate to take a leap of faith for. When Rook decides something, it’s with conviction and no one will deter him (me too). It’s a very powerful trait to have.
Back to his original fear, Rook wants to conceal information so people can’t target him. He’s done everything he can to mitigate that factor with stealth and skill. He is an expert at what he does. Even then, some of it’s not fool proof. Trey tends to clock his lies and privately points them out. Rook appreciates that he doesn’t pry or reveal information publicly. While it might be considered a mild threat, knowing Trey’s personality, he wouldn’t be one. It makes Rook trust him more. Trey’s nice to be around anyway.
Bouncing back to a previous topic, Rook’s flamboyant persona isn’t a complete lie. The best lies are created with a little bit of truth after all. He just happens plays it up a lot. It could also be a measure of self disclosure. He is very loud about his interests, drawing attention away from more personal and real aspects of his life.
Interestingly enough, I love his contrast to Cater (this is a tangent, but I’m into the analysis and hopefully you are too). The card solider is similar to Rook in his secretive nature. He keeps his cards close to his chest if I want to get poetic. However, he 100% more secretive than Rook imo. He’s fantastic at flying under the radar and being underestimated. Our hunter excels in the physical territory, which tracks as a Pomefiore student. All of them are very physically oriented (like Savanaclaw students but the similarities between the dorms is a talk for another day). Rook is openly strange and eccentric, so whenever he feels threatened or wants to establish his dominance (a very Savanclaw wording, but he was originally in it so it fits) (also an example of this is actually when the cast first meets him when they’re signing up for VDC. I could get into it, but for now I won’t) he openly threatens others. He doesn’t conceal that he has secrets. The way he gets people to back off is by making them scared and uncomfortable. People quickly learn that he’s not worth the effort of being stalked.
Cater, on the other hand, plays defensively. His facade is much more ingrained than Rook’s is. Rook only adopted the more refined persona during his Pomefiore days, upping the level of his lies and armor. The reason Cater’s is so ingrained is because of his childhood. He’s also much certainly lying to himself which strengthens its hold on him. Regardless, He makes himself ditzy to seem harmless and has no brain. People instantly chalk him up to being an annoying influencer. Hell, if you don’t look into him, he even tricks the readers. I know he did that for me.
He hides by deflection. When someone asks personal questions, he probably gives a generic answer before redirecting it to the other person. He knows people love talking about themselves. He learned that from his sisters who unknowingly trampled all over him and his autonomy. The fact he had to move around a lot also meant that the only stable and constant people in his life were his sister and mom. He couldn’t escape that abuse. Side note: it was 100% not intentional, which I can see making Cater’s feelings toward them even more complicated. He also doesn’t like conflict, but considering his finesse, there must’ve been a lot of petty conflicts within the house. If his sisters are anything like the ones from Cinderella, they’d fight over pretty things. Anyway, I could talk more about our Cinderella boy, and his depression and how his autonomy was absolutely ignored and ripped away from him. The only thing he could do to survive was to conform. He probably believes he has to keep changing himself to be worth anything too. His self esteem is ran through the ground. I seek to explore that in his dreaming of you fanfic. However, I will stop here for now.
Hopefully that gave you insight about my favorite twst characters. Although, I wouldn’t say Cater is technically my favorite… the third place for me is always changing. Honestly all of them r in third place, it just who interests me in the moment lol.
Regardless, I’ll minimally edit this before posting. However, I hope you like it! Feel free to ask me other questions about characters. This was very fun.
Also, who’s your favorite character or characters? It might be nice to do a little analysis of them on here too! Gives me something to do lol
Now, I’ll go read and edit Riddle’s Dreaming of You while falling asleep lol. How fitting
