Anais led the way. Anais always led the way.

“Why, exactly, are you taking me out here again?” Reagan tried not to sound too annoyed through brushing the branches and leaves from her face. Anais paid no mind to her at first, wheeling forward and leaning her head in every direction, as if she hadn’t been down this path hundreds of times before.

“I thought you needed it.” 

She had Reagan there. It wasn’t a surprise that she seemed to be going progressively downhill, but it was always Anais who caught it first. Anais could just read people like that, and know everything they were thinking from the way they bit their lip or how they kept picking at the pad of their fingers.

The crowded trail opened up to a clearing with a stream traced directly down the middle, where the rocks seemed shiny and new underneath the clean and fresh water. Anais moved her wheelchair so that she was right by the edge of the stream and tried to look down int it.

“I come here when I’m upset, Reagan.” She turned to Reagan, who was just now coming through the clearing, and was at a loss for words. “When someone makes a dreadful comment about me or what I can do, I come out here to remind myself that there’s more to life than one comment, and there’s more to them than one retort gone awry. No one really means mean things, not deep down.”

“You honestly believe that?” Reagan didn’t mean for the comment to come out so harshly, and flinched at Anais in preparation of what she would respond with.

“Perhaps not. But it certainly connects me to the good in the world, and I find that more important. Don’t you?”

Backstory: Born into a somewhat loving and supporting family with a father who was often away on business trips, Anais has had big dreams ever since she was little. Her family moved to the US from France when Anais was young, and she is fluent in both French and English. She wanted to study environmental engineering in college, minor in poetry, and then move back to France when she left college. However, a car accident at the age of 14 caused her paralysis from the waist down and she was forced to reconsider her plans. Art and nature brought her out of a long depression, and she now values her friends and experiences more than ever before as a park ranger and specialist on the history of Spirit’s Crossing.

As per your question, which actually made me smile, I gave this some thought!

There’s actually a scene in the Cricket canon where Naomi sits at a desk in her room with blueprints on it and it’s completely messy and there are pens all over the floor and everything. You’d never think Naomi was the disaster zone but here we are uh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was thinking of doing this for the Town of Spirit’s Crossing characters so here go!

Reagan’s desk would be totally empty aside from the one piece of paper or one document she’s working on. The desk itself would be covered in doodles and carvings and stuff, that’s where the real work gets done.

Ingrid’s desk at the library always a has a bowl of candy (usually lemon because that’s her favorite flavor) and stacked with books. You’ll usually find her annotating a novel and the desk would be be littered with multi-colored pens

Anais usually works outside but her desk would probably be an attempt at organized. She gets overwhelmed with too much visually in front of her so she likes to keep a neat space.
