My POV with Tourettes Syndrome
My name is Alex and I've had Tourettes Syndrome for 4 years now. This post is how the condition currently affects me. My tics affect almost every aspect of my day and bodily involuntary and voluntary functions. (Blinking, Breathing, Drinking, Speaking, Thinking, Sitting, Walking, Cooking, Typing, Writing, etc)
TW:TICS ARE MENTIONED
As someone with really severe tics/tourettes I would just like to appreciate the respect and research that went into The Road Within. Robert may not have tics but the way he portrayed them made me feel no other way than at home.
There are a thousand reasons for this to be my comfort film (even if it does trigger/give me tics).
It also puts into perspective the seriousness of these disorders and conditions (and helped me understand my fathers OCD).
If you haven't watched it, please do.
:) I'm proud of you wherever you are in life
so today was...interesting
backstory: my district has had state testing this week and because of that, I've had to suppress my tics like crazy for 120 minutes, let them all out during my lunch hour, and then have to suppress somewhat for the next 3 hours during classes.
I told my absolutely wonderful history about my tics a few months ago, right after they started. he was super understanding and really didn't care which is great. now, I have a middle finger tic thats funny around friends, not so much around adults. and well lets just say that suppressing has been hard this week.
so I had to awkwardly go up to him, with the moral support of two friends thank god, and be like "yo mr. [redacted], if I flip you off I really don't mean it, I'm really sorry" and overapologized like the little bitch I am asdhfaasdf
and he was cool about it! he was taken aback at first, understandably, but was then like "ok I'll just...take it as a compliment." which is like the best response ever ashdfah. but it was so awkward and im so embarrassed and just like UGH. I just keep cringing about it, wishing I hadn't told him, but also at the same time im glad I did because now he won't question it. but just *embarrassment*
Y’all my tics came back, I can’t do this rn 😔🤚🏻

developing tics feels like the worlds worst domino effect
it all starts with one (1) and its allll down hill from there
my tics: *increase in frequency when my parents do something that stresses me out/makes me anxious*
my parents, who know full well that my tics are caused by stress and anxiety: *continue doing the thing despite watching my tics increase and me literally saying that it's stressful/anxiety inducing*
me:
y’all tw tic mention
insuppressible coughing tic? yea 😩😭
