This is a Song my band, The Walkabouts, has been working on for a little while now. We're a slightly odd and zany band full of funk and indie-rock influences! I'll be posting more songs, and tutorials for my style of bass playing as this blog progresses. If you or anyone wants to learn bass or some basics of music theory, this would be a decent place to start

The Walkabouts – Another Sub Pop 200 Outlier
The other stick-out from Sub Pop 200 is a band called the Walkabouts. Witness their driving country-rock-folk contribution to the comp:
And witness the Stranger's half-remembrances of milk-faced alt-country singers and Whitman alum. (Milk-faced? I dunno.)
The Walkabouts had 20 years after this to find better producers and sharpen their sound, and they produced some impressive (and slow) tunes.
They don't sound like a traditionally Seattle band, but they grew out of and were a big part of the scene of the late 80s.
The epic "Feel Like Going Home" from 1993's "Satisfied Mind":
The driving, creepy, thickly-orchestrated "Dustlands" from 2011's "Travels in the Dustlands":
I'd have to ask to be sure, but latter-day Seattle band Carissa's Wierd and their offshoots Grand Archives, Band of Horses, and Sera Cahoone have the same kind of windswept, chime-y countryness about them. And so another theoretical branch on the hypothetical family tree.
Carissa's Wierd – Ignorant Piece of Shit (2002)
Grand Archives – George Kaminski (2008)
Band of Horses – No One's Gonna Love You (2007)
Sera Cahoone – Nervous Wreck (2012)
