Back to School Resource Masterpost
Hi everyone! It's that time of year again, back-to-school and all the excitement of learning new things, along with the stress and anxiety that inevitably occurs. I've been on Tumblr for longer than I'd like to admit, and have compiled a long list of resources below!
Please note that I did my absolute best to find the original links to all of these posts, but many of them are 4+ years old and the users have changed blog names/deleted. If any of the links donât work, or there is a link to an original post which I am missing, please let me know! Many of the master posts have dead links so if you find any updated resources please feel free to add on :)

TAGS. tags, tags, tags! the tumblr algorithm runs solely on tags, meaning likes donât do anything when it comes to boosting posts - make sure to use most common tags and check the spelling! some popular tags in the studyblr community are #studyblr #studying #onmydesk and #studyspo. i would also higly recommend using bloggersâ tags! a lot of people track a tag, meaning your posts will show up on their dash even if they donât follow you. you can usually find their tracking tag in the blog description or on their about/faq page :) (i, for example, track #bulletnotestudies). additionally, keep in mind that only the first 20 tags count, after that youâre just screaming into the void
FORMAT PROPERLY when posting photos, use the photo and not text type of post; it does have an effect on the display on some of the tumblr themes and can be a factor of whether or not your posts will get reblogged. continuing on the same tangent, make sure all your photos are the same size! in the mobile app and on the dash, the photos get cropped to fit the post margins anyway, but if you go to someoneâs blog, they will show in the size you used - meaning your pretty moodboard will look all wonky if you didnât crop all the photos to the same size. and if you can, post your photo posts through the website on a computer, rather than from your phone/tablet; the mobile version converts photo posts into text, meaning the format will get all jumbled if you use two or more photos. pay attention to your descriptions and text posts too. if youâre writing a long one, separate it into paragraphs, so itâs easier to read. similarly, remember that most people use the mobile app, so super long posts will clog up their dash and theyâll most likely end up scrolling really fast to just get to the end of the post quickly (insert a âread moreâ to avoid this)
EDITING you donât need fancy stationery or technology to make âsucessfulâ posts, but if you have the means and a little time, editing can get you very far. hereâs a post by @myhoneststudyblrâ in which she kindly takes you through her process step by step. also, hereâs how i edit my photos.
figure out an OPTIMAL POSTING TIMEÂ when are your followers most active? for me, itâs around 10-11am and 1-2:30pm my time. also reblog your own posts at diff times to make sure you reach all timezones (i usually schedule reblogs right after iâve published my post)
TRIAL AND ERRORÂ your posts wonât just one day start getting thousands of notes, slow and steady, most importantly: focus on making content you enjoy - if you like the process and like what youâre putting out, itâll show and notes will start trickling in as well! something @study-with-janaâ once told me thatâs really stuck with me: âNot all your posts are going to be successful but every once in a while thereâs going to be one that is, so just keep trying. Youâll also get better at taking pictures the more you do it so just keep posting and donât mind how many notes you get that much.â
and for the sake of everyoneâs good mood and comfort in the community, please do not turn to reposting othersâ content in an effort to gain notes. itâs highly disrespectful towards the actual author and demotivates them. a lot. recognise that making your own content takes a lot of time, planning, and overall effort. this is a community and that means that we support content creators in turn for the posts they share with us for free. reblog their posts!
if thereâs anything i failed to mention or explain in the way understandable to you, feel free to send me an ask x

⨠how to deal with failure: a brief guide for the completely done and utterly fed up student â¨
first of all, recognise - and i donât mean just read, internalise it - that failing is okay. youâre not dumb, youâre not unworthy of taking the class, you mightâve not even necessarily had the wrong approach; you did, however, in any case, have bad luck. and that can be changed. it absolutely can be changed and you do have the time to adjust your studying so you can make up for the misstep. itâs gon be okay buttercup <3
1. vent to a friend/sb youâre close with
i personally attacked my bestie, talked to a few other ppl, and it helped get some of the frustration out. itâs also important you learn to speak to yourself how you would to a friend - you certainly wouldnât tell them theyâre a failure and wonât come back from this, would you? what you actively tell yourself shapes your subconscious thoughts.
2. catch up on the self care youâve neglected when studying
get a long shower to wash the exam off, eat your meals slowly, get enough sleep (!), clean your room (unburden The Chair⢠- srsly, do your laundry - and vacuum, change your bedsheets perhaps?)
3. make a study plan for the retake
be sure to make it realistic and flexible so you donât end up inducing more stress (helpful posts: 1 2 3 4 (not mine)), try to finish all the topics at least 3 days before the exam so you can spend the last days refreshing your knowledge and preparing mentally instead of cramming.
4. reflect (critically) on your studying so far
is there anything you can do to get more out of your time? quality over quantity is super important when it comes to revision; try implementing more active recall into your study sessions (some posts you can consult on this topic: 1 2 3 (not mine), what is active recall?) and spacing them out more; try to avoid cramming as it increases your stress levels and isnât as affective with committing information to memory. also, if you asses you could use some help, reach out! ask a friend, get in touch with your professor, seek advice online⌠getting help = showing readiness for improvement = mature and very welcome!
5. schedule self-care time
when youâre making your study plan, remember to also think of your mental and physical health â you can space out little acts of self care throughout the week (i.e. take a bubble bath every sunday, schedule a weekly video call with your best friend, allot time to spend with your s/o, do a quick workout every day,âŚ) â or have a âmental health dayâ for a whole day each week (i.e. on saturdays, only do things you enjoy - spend the day reading/drawing/binging netflix/baking/âŚ); i personally like to space my self care throughout the week and go for a walk with my best friend every two weeks or so. iâm not kidding, schedule your âmeâ time into your planner. write. it. down.
6. sleep
iâve mentioned it already but itâs so important it deserves itâs own bullet point - remember to also take good care of your brain. it is, after all, the organ working the hardest here. a whole day of studying, doing chores, talking to people, etc. has your synapses firing away like crazy, so sleeping is vital for them to recover and come back stronger the next day. give them time to cool down, process the information youâve gathered throughout the day and store it somewhere you can access it later. seriously. an important note here: there isnât a single amount of sleep that is optimal for everyone - some people work best on 6 hours of sleep, some canât go on less than 9. dedicate yourself to figuring out what works best for you and learn to plan your wake up time. â option no. 1: get into the habit of going to sleep and waking up every. day. at. the. same. time. - a good routine is even more vital in these times when time doesnât even matter bc we literally donât go anywhere ever. â option no. 2: if your uni/work schedule doesnât allow you to establish a daily routine, try using sleepyti.me to calculate when you should wake up to feel most refreshed :)
hopefully these points can serve as a base/reference for your academic rebound <3 i wrote them up after straight up skipping the grieving-this-is-unfair phase of failure and just being left with a slightly-pissed-but-definitely-fed-up-with-this-class feeling. it dawned on me that i surely canât be the only one facing this, so i decided to share this and hopefully help you guys out as well:) keep in mind: your worth has zero correlation with your grades, youâre a bad bitch and will not stop bc life tried to knock u down - hereâs a quote i like: when life knocks you down, calmly get back up and very politely say, âyou hit like a bitchâ. after that, u can follow these steps and flourish x
hi guys! today iâll be sharing some tips and things about how to be successful in the IB program. this is kinda long but itâs the HONEST truth that not a lot of people would tell you. i got my results back and i did end up getting my diploma! :) IB classes i took: HL english, HL psychology, HL history, SL mandarin, SL ESS, SL math studies, and of course TOK :) hope this helps yaâll!
1. procrastination
something i struggled with a lot was procrastination. i especially procrastinated the EE and all of my IAs, and i can tell you guys it was NOT the move. i became super stressed because i was saving big assignments for the last minute, and it was horrible for my mental health. doing assignments last minute might work sometimes, but in the IB program it will really effect your grades. what i would recommend is if you get homework just do it the day you get it, and when having longer assignments, work on it bit by bit everyday. i know getting started can be really hard, so what helped me was thinking about my future goals (it really motivates me to work harder).Â
2. cas
yes, i am making a section just for cas. did you know you could get perfect scores on your exams but if your cas isnât complete you donât get your diploma? iâve heard stories... DONâT PROCRASTINATE YOUR CAS! spread out your activities and hours throughout BOTH years. what i would recommend for being successful in cas would be to do activities that you actually like. i know a lot of people who would do ANYTHING for cas hours, and while they got their hours, their journals were in-genuine and they struggled at the end when they had to have the final discussion with the ib coordinator. do something youâre proud of! also, anything can count for hours. i put social media as hours! in addition, you can use the things you do for cas for your college applications!!
3. make friends Â
now youâre probably wondering, jordan, what do you mean make friends? i have friends... well, what i mean is make friends in your classes. this is something i LEARNED. in year 1, i was kind of a lone wolf, and i realized that whenever i had questions or needed help, i didnât have anyone to ask. in year two, i made sure to have at least 1 friend in every class and it helped me SO MUCH. they donât even have to be your friends, just find people you would feel comfortable talking to and asking questions, it will really come in handy, especially in the ibdp.Â
4. learn confidenceÂ
again, youâre probably very confused. let me paint you a picture: you will have to do A LOT of public speaking in this program. a lot. whether itâs speeches, presentations, tok presentations, daily speaking in language class... you will have a lot of public speaking. i guess this is kind of a heads up. i know it sucks, but you WILL have a ton of graded public speaking assignments, and i can tell you from personal experience, if you arenât confident or able to speak in front of others, it will effect your grade. i know this because i was that girl. like literally in mandarin class if i had to do daily speaking in front of all of my classmates i would CRY. literally cry. so i know where youâre coming from. but, what i learned throughout the years is that NOBODY CARES. and i mean that in the best way possible. you just have to remember that you wonât see these people after high school, they really arenât paying that much attention, and if you mess up, they truly will not care. everyone is stressing over their own assignments. what i learned to do is fake it till you make it. i would appear SUPER confident with whatever i said, and everyone believed i was confident and speaking well, even though i would mess up sometimes. just close your eyes, take a breath, and fake it till you make it :)Â
5. final tips / words
make sure your IAs are good, they matter.Â
your citations in your EE is literally more important than the actual writing. if you have ONE wrong citation you could literally fail your EE.Â
live your life! you will definitely be consumed in your studies, but trust me you also need some fun :)
youâll become close with your ib cohort because yaâll are ALL struggling together. you will most likely make new friends :)Â
take classes you know youâll somewhat enjoy. if youâre not a math person donât take HL math, if youâre not a science person donât take HL bio... TRUST ME.Â
do your EE on something that ACTUALLY interests you because itâll be easier to work on and it wonât really feel like a weight on your shoulders.
donât overthink things. i know a ton of people stress a lot about the tok presentation, but trust me you will be okay. i made my presentation the day before i had to present and got a 9. just PRACTICE presenting. it will help so muchÂ
do your tok presentation on something that interests you and something you actually could talk about, it will make your life a lot easier
helpful website:Â https://www.ibsurvival.com/
i have a tumblr group for ib students where we help each other, ask to join!Â
okay, thatâs it :) hopefully this helped some people, it was really raw and honest. while the ib program caused major stress and health issues, it was also an experience. it changed me, made me more open minded and really impacted my life. i was able to do things i wouldnât think i would do because of cas, and i learned more about myself. and honestly, i loved my cohort and felt like i had a small family of people i could relate to. if youâre nervous, donât worry. it isnât that bad, and trust me there are positives. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! if you want further advice on anything IB related you can comment, send something to my ask box, or just private message me! have an amazing day :)))Â
