José (Antonio de la Torre) is a taciturn and solitary middle-aged man; he spends his days playing cards with friends at Juanjo's bar, where he is engaged in a hidden relationship with Ana (Ruth Diaz), the owner's sister-in-law. When the woman's husband, Curro (Luis Callejo), is released from prison, things take a turn for the worse: to protect the woman and her son from the ex-convict's tyranny, José convinces her to go to a secluded cottage (but his intentions are different, involving a bloody jewelry heist for which Curro had been imprisoned eight years earlier).

The film is a subdued, yet merciless and violent, modern noir, a sad portrait of a humanity for which fate has reserved very few smiles, where revenge seems the only reason to continue living and feelings end up withering in the shadow of a comfortless reality. The actors are all good and convincing, and Arévalo manages the slow yet relentless pace of suspense very well; and yet... and yet, the impression remains in me of a cold operation where it's difficult for the viewer to find a way to engage with the characters. And, despite the many prizes the movie won in Spain, all things considered, this pervasive absolute nihilism (that I consider the only film's undeniable flaw) ends up being annoying.

La seconda, in uso oggi nella lingua spagnola, deriva dalla prima que ormai è in disuso, ma la si puó trovare in alcuni testi.

Usare una o l'altra, dipende da cosa volete far intendere. Comprehender ha un significato molto più profondo, poiché rende la propria conoscenza di qualcosa parte di sé, in contrapposizione al semplice comprendere, senza realmente incorporare tutto in tutta la sua dimensione. Proprio per questo, la parola comprehender è spesso usata in filosofia e non al di fuori di essa.
