apparently there is some amount of discourse going down on threads (where i do not have an account) about the lack of content warnings for the book innamorata by ava reid and people are trying to cancel the author over it, which is wild to me because content warnings are NOT a required part of books. in fact they've only become a part of publishing fairly recently and i can remember when people were discussing if they should be included in books at all! there are still a great many novels out there, especially in the horror genre, that do not include content warnings, and i don't think that authors should be dragged over hot coals for not including them. also, i have seen this kind of discourse happen several times over the last few years and notably male authors are never the ones who get called out for writing books with upsetting content and not including content warnings. i wonder why that could possibly be…

Innamorata by Ava Reid
“Forbidden love, tinted by tragedy”
“I read a TW for Innamorata and have concerns.”
It’s clearly marketed as a horror-romance novel.
“Should we be publishing something with cannibalism and incest?”
Oh, that sounds like a gothic romance novel. Gothic romances typically contain horror elements if they don’t outright cross into the horror genre.
“Brain development -“
Gothic romance is mostly a genre for adults. No one is forcing you to read gothic romance. If you know actual children who are reading gothic horror which I strongly doubt you do then you need to talk to their parents not the publishers. This applies to anything with fanfic or kink too fyi. Y’all would not survive one chapter of an Anne Rice book
