This week I went back to visit the discussion in the notes on @seaweed-solarpunkās post on solarpunk fashion. I collected all the suggestions in reblogs and tags and tried to find common themes to organize into a concept map. This is just my interpretation, but I think the three most important tenets of solarpunk fashion are eco-friendliness, inclusive design, and personal significance.
[image ID: a colorful branching concept map where the central idea is Solarpunk Fashion, and the three main branches are in primary colors. Where the branches connect and overlap, the color changes to a secondary color between the primaries. All text in the bubbles is listed in the text to follow. End ID]

Drew this after finishing the book āThe History of Beesā by Maja Lunde - highly recommend that book. It was frustrating to read at times, because two of the main characters are⦠a** hats, but the book itself is so important!
I ONCE THOUGHT I KNEW what nature writing was: the pretty, sublime stuff minus the parking lot. The mountain majesty and the soaring eagle and the ancient
It is the relation within the human and the natural and the god and the geese and the past, present, future, body-self-other. A queer ecology is a liberatory ecology. It is the acknowledgment of the numberless relations between all things alive, once alive, and alive once again. No man can categorize those relations without lying. Categories offer us a way of organizing our world. They are tools. They are power.Ā
The field of queer ecology has a HUGE overlap with solarpunk values, theories, and goals. Of course the solarpunk movement must be inclusive of queer people, but it must also account for the queerness of what we call natureĀ and the environment. We must also be able to queer our own perspectives: What borders and boundaries are we constructing, who/what do they effect, and how?Ā Hereās a good primer on one thing thatĀ queer ecology can mean.Ā Ā
What drives us to Solarpunk?
In terms of aesthetic, genre, and political movement, Solarpunk is very new. Anarchism has been around formally since 1809, but perhaps even before. So in terms of egalitarian ideologies, Solarpunk is the peppy, bright-eyed child in the egalitarian/collectivist political sphere, but at this point itās our best hope in terms of getting out of the choke-hold weāve been in for so long. Having hope in the future doesnāt make a movement less serious, it makes the people involved fight harder than those on the sidelines. Solarpunks are the scholars and players, we study and we play in our down time. I know I do at least, I have connections all across my community, even into city government and partially into county government, so pulling a few strings would be easy, but I also do things that arenāt so legal. In the spring and summer, Iām an avid guerrilla gardener and graffiti artist. Not that Iām any good at graffiti, but I get the message across in biodegradable spray paint and chalk. One of these days Iām going to talk face-to-face with our energy council and treasurer and discuss a bill to add clean rooftop energy to all the small stores in my city, but thatās just me.
What drives us is hope, weāre tired of feeling trapped under a sense of impending doom, weāre tired of feeling trapped under capitalism, and weāre tired of the evils of the world winning because itās profitable. Weāre angry, weāre smart, and weāre strong, much stronger together than any bourgeois pigs. Even if we have to work within the red tape, we will prevail because weāre working together and I think we can all get behind that goal.Ā

You should look into solarpunk stuff if you havenāt already. Iām not talking about the genre but the movement. Solarpunk action week is the type of stuff Iām talking about.
Do you have links to articles or anything? I searched it and it definitely seems like something I could be interested in but I couldnāt find a clear definition of what it actually is and stands for. The general idea that I took from it was that itās similar to self sustainability and just in general trying to decrease the carbon footprint, is that any sort of close to correct?
Are there any good Solarpunk blogs on tumblr?
Hello Tumblr solarapunks! I need your help!
Iāve started a small group in Russian social network called VK to promote solarpunk ideas.
I havenāt seen this movement rising in this country and I think that this is sad, so Iāll try my best to promote it but help is required
If you are interested in helping me grow that community pls pls pls tag me in posts that could be beneficial for teaching people about this movement, Iāll carefully and respectfully translate those posts and credit the author!
(Iāll also ask authors permission to use their posts)
Thanks to everyone whoās willing to help! Your help is greatly appreciated!
On the prevalence ofĀ āgreen capitalismā or greenwashing in life and common media
People are starting to care about the environment, and thatās wonderful... but thereās a catch. Always is, isnāt there? Itās a mix of aestheticism, marketing, and research suppression. More often than not, most entrepreneurs and companies are out to make a quick buck off of people who think that reducing waste or using renewable materials is active environmentalism. Itās not their fault for having the wool pulled over their eyes, thatās how so calledĀ āgreen capitalismā is designed, blaming others for being fooled is just victim blaming. Another tool of separation by the ruling class is greenwashing.
An example of greenwashing is this:Ā
You do see the problem here, right? I mean youād have to be metaphorically blind to miss it. What good is reducing carbon emissions when youāre using a plastic bottle? Creating plastic causes hella emissions, From an article by NPR (I know, they sold out, but hear them out)Ā āBy one estimate, emissions from producing and incinerating plastics could amount to 56 gigatons of carbon ā almost 50 times the annual emissions of all of the coal power plants in the U.S. ā between now and 2050. ... And that's what makes replacing plastic a problem without a clear solution.āĀ For the whole article, click the quote.
But whereās the point in what Iām saying? Itās not gonna stop anytime soon. The point is to potentially educate those who fall for these these things, as Iāve stated before, theyāre victims of marketeering and (probably) propaganda propelled forward by the ruling class. In the end, putting green in front of whatever is being sold doesnāt make it true. Donāt be a victim, be what they fear most, educated.
Thatās all for tonight (currently 7:22 American Central time zone as Iām typing)
Iād love for you to share this, with how many (ugh) liberals are on Tumblr, I wouldnāt be surprised if I got backlash for blaming capitalism, but anyway, this has been @punkofsunshineā, have a good one and stay safe.
