#solarpunk aesthetic

It was a blank black canvas bag before. Found it at the dollar store. This was IMMENSELY fun to do.

I bought the resist and persist patch at a pride festival last week, I used silver studs, safety pins and bits of ribbon and trim from my scrap pile. The ankh patch was handmade by me, same with the green and white swirly one at the top. And I attached a little Halloween crow skull pendant as well as a faux flower branch to the zipper pull with silver wire, black thread and superglue to really make sure it doesnt come off. I am SO proud of this

On the other side, (with no zipper) there's a very large patch with a gray wolf on it and white words that say "resist, persist" and it's stitched onto the bag with white embroidery thread. The eyes are silver but they look white in the pictures. On the top and bottom of the patch is black and white checkerboard ribbon, and on the very top and bottom of the bag there's studs lining the edges. Theres safety pins scattered around the edges of both main patches, but not the swirl one.

The zipper pull is black with a plastic bone colored crow skull pendant attached to it with wire and thread, as well as a fake plastic sprig of white flowers and green leaves attached the same way. The flowers and leaves are glued in place to prevent accidentally littering and losing flowers.

Let’s just cut to the chase here, being in a bustling city is tough work. You put on your glasses, stare out the window, and all too often, you’re greeted by cranes, scaffolding, and a ton of dust in the air. We devote countless hours to decorating and arranging our indoor haven, buying plants, purchasing the perfect fragrant candles, but we never consider the real issue seeping into our space.

In reality, there are few things more reminiscent of yōkai than urban pollution. These elusive creatures that shift shape and form exist in the very air around us, introducing an unrelenting and chaotic force into the environment. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and concrete dust particles may not be visible to the naked eye, but the impact they have on energy is undeniable. 🌁👻

However, lately, I have been digging into how we are really combating these invisible urban demons, and wow, the solarpunk vibes are off the charts. 🌱⚙️

Every time a new skyscraper or factory pops up, there's always the danger of unleashing an apocalypse of noise pollution, water contamination, and particulate matter into the area. Back in the day, all we could do was hold our breaths and hope for the best. Today, however, there exists a whole secret world of digital charms that shield the metropolis from harm.

I'm talking about smart environmental monitoring. Modern developers are now installing nonstop IoT (Internet of Things) sensors in construction areas and commercial buildings. These ultra-intelligent gizmos serve as the metropolis' defense system. 🧠🏢

They are monitoring the decibel level of the drilling, making sure that we don't destroy our own nervous system with the sound. They are analyzing the atmosphere around for harmful substances, checking the runoff for contamination from industry waste, thus guaranteeing the safety of local ecosystems. If it turns out that the concentration of hazardous substances is rising above acceptable level, a warning will be sent immediately to stop the construction until the situation gets better.

It changes my whole perspective on the matter entirely. Instead of a noisy construction site that is disrupting my daily life, I can see now a network of technology silently working behind the scenes, taking care of the safety of local environment.

We definitely appreciate a skyline, but even more, we appreciate being able to breathe. The next time you feel how exhausting the city can be, just remember that the digital heroes are always at work testing and controlling the atmosphere, trying to keep these modern monsters under control. Breathe easy, preserve your tranquility and idealize air quality. 🌬️🤍

SOLARPUNK AESTHETIC WEEK 6!!

What’s this all about? Solarpunk Aesthetic Week (SAesW) is a biannual week-long celebration of the aesthetics around the Solarpunk genre and movement! As Solarpunks, we look forward to a hopeful future, and this event is meant for all of us to take part in visualizing that future and working towards creating it step by step! So let’s get creative, get our hands dirty, and tell our stories together!

“But it’s winter! There’s less sun in the sky, it’s cold, it’s miserable, what’s Solarpunk about this time of year at all?!”

We firmly believe that solarpunk looks different in different times of year--whereas in spring and summer we might be growing tomatoes and dreaming of greenhouses and sunny communities, in winter we might be doing lots of work--mending up clothes or making new ones, planning future gardens and actions, reading and writing to help visualize the future we want to achieve. Sure, solarpunk is generally associated with the color and warmth of spring and summer, which is all the more reason to truly think about what solarpunk will be like in the wintry months. There’s plenty to do, and you can take part any way you’d like to!

If it’s dark and cold during this wintry time for you, it could be an excellent time to dive into Lunarpunk as well! Lunarpunk is the night side of Solarpunk in a sense, so its a good time to explore this closely related aesthetic. It's also the subtheme of this year's winter event!

In addition, consider looking into Polarpunk! It’s a smaller aesthetic, but you’re sure to find plenty of inspiration and wintry vibes to draw inspiration from! If you’re dealing with snow and ice and cold temperatures, Polarpunk very well may be your Solarpunk!

But also, we aren’t forgetting about our friends in the Southern Hemisphere! For you all, it’s summer, and we’re excited to see what you do to celebrate!

Artists are using public spaces to highlight the impact of climate change on communities and their livelihoods.

They experiment in different formats such as comic strips, photographs, multimedia, theatre, art installations and more to humanise climate change and turn data into lived experiences for the audiences to understand easier.

Climate change-induced displacement, dams and local ecology, oceans and carbon sequestration and climate-resilient food systems are some of the themes tackled by artists and festival or exhibition curators in India.
