Shells x Aphrodite Areia 🐚

Shells are iconic symbols of Aphrodite, especially her birth from the sea, but when paired with her Areia (warrior) aspect, they take on deeper meaning: armor made of beauty, the sea’s softness hardened into protection, sensuality with a shield.

Working with shells as magical tools is a potent way to embody Aphrodite Areia’s dual essence: beauty and brutality, sensuality and sovereignty. Each shell carries its own energetic imprint, and when aligned with Aphrodite in her armored, warrior state, they become more than ocean relics - they become sacred symbols of love defended.

Symbol of: Aphrodite’s birth, sacred femininity, allure

Connection to Areia: The scallop is not only symbolic of sensuality - it’s the original icon of Aphrodite rising from the sea. In Areia form, it represents divine femininity that isn’t passive, but chosen and sharp.

Use: Place it on your altar for confidence in your sensual power; use it in glamour spells or self-love baths.

Cowrie Shell

Symbol of: Fertility, protection, divine feminine power, sexual sovereignty

Connection to Areia: Historically used as both currency and amulet, cowries are about valuing your body, beauty, and boundaries. Aphrodite Areia here says: your worth is not up for negotiation.

Use: Carry one as a talisman for protective sensuality; use in spells for reclaiming body confidence or guarding against energy vampires.

Murex Shell

Symbol of: Royalty, blood, deep ocean rage

Connection to Areia: Murex shells were used to make imperial purple dye - reserved for queens and warriors. This shell sings of dark feminine royalty: love that wears a crown and sharp edges.

Use: Channel into spellwork that mixes desire with dominance or initiates personal power reclamation.

• An intact conch shell (small to medium works fine).

• Ground mace, Ginger, and Dried orange peel.

• A fire proof bowl and either matches or a lighter.

Best cast under moonlight. If you don't have the energy or ability to be outside moonlight via window is ok!!

Eggshells are a great source of magic and, unless you're a vegan, you probably have some eggs in your fridge. Just clean the shells and let them dry. Crush them and use the powder to cast a circle. You can also add eggshell powder to herbs to create magical powders.

This is a multi-purpose ritual which can be used for love, money, or health.

Choose a beach that you know usually has plenty of shells rolling around on the sand. Go to the ocean an hour or so before high tide. Look at the waves and say these or similar words:

By surf and sand,

By wave and sea;

By foam and land:

A shell for me.

When at the beach, or from your shell collection, find two shells of the same kind. Evenly sized. Scallops, clams, cockles, cowries, ark clams, round shaped shells would work best. Toss them in your hand like a dice, whilst thinking of your question. The question needs to be answered with yes, no or maybe. Once you feel ready, toss the shells upwards, lightly, and let them fall on to the sand or a soft surface. Here is how to determine the answers:

Yes - Both shells have the mouths facing upwards.

No - Both shells have the mouth facing downwards.

Maybe - the shells are uneven. One mouth facing down, the other facing up.

My coven sisters and I went to a ritual honoring the Goddess Nehalennia yesterday and were asked to bring a small offering. So I decided to try something new: spell shells!

What you need:

🐚 a shell

🐚 herbs and stones

🐚 soy- or beeswax candle

🐚 greaseproof paper

What you do:

- take you shell and place it on the greaseproof paper, hollow side up

- put in your herbs and stones

- melt and poor in your wax

- let cool
