He wasn't.

Slow tears fell down his pale cheeks, staining his pillow. He was completely silent and unmoving, as though he was just resting. He already knew that crying wouldn't get him anywhere. It was a ticket to being lectured, to being reminded of everyone in the world that had it worse, to being given stern looks that made his soul leave his body.

His face burned as he kept crying, oblivious to the destruction of his trauma.

The rain was a relief at first, something that made everyone in the Scorch look up. People ran outside with buckets, holding it up like they were praying to a God. People were smiling for the first time in months, grinning ear to ear. Children spun around in it, laughing and jumping around.

It was wonderful at first.

Until it didn't stop.

The storm was raging, thunder booming in the distance. It poured down harder, frantically hitting the ground. Lightning boomed across the sky, striking anywhere it could get to.

The scent of burning flesh was the first thing people noticed.

The second was the sound of a body hitting the ground.

The screams that echoed through the air were past human, people grabbing their loved ones and searching for any shelter. They swarmed into the nearest house, ducking under entry ways as all hope seemed to be lost. All the while, they had no idea a tortured child was behind it.
