How to stay writing motivated
From my personal experience.
WRITE SIDE SCENES: If you don't have any inspo for continuing where you left off, write other scenes. Think forward to what you might want to happen later and write that instead. Or write some AU's to get a wider understanding of your characters. You might end up using these later on in your WIP, or you could just keep them for your own personal benefit. We all love reading fanfics of our fave fandoms so when you get published your fans might appreciate the extra scenes you've written!
WORLD BUILD: Focus on creating places, species, communities, etc. Yeah you're not actually writing your WIP, but you're still being productive and it's likely to benefit you later on.
CHARACTER PROFILES: When I'm stuck with my writing, I get my beta readers to ask questions about the mc's of my WIP. Of course you have your basics which you started with like their appearance and family, but sometimes just making up random stuff for your oc's like: do they have an innie or outie bellybutton? What's their favourite flower? What are they allergic to? etc can help you get to know your characters and this could inspire you to write something about said characteristic.
FOCUS ON YOUR END GOAL: Remember what you're doing this for. Remind yourself of the reward that comes with finishing your work. Think of how happy you'll be when you've finished it, of how many people will love your work and reread it, of all the people who will love it so much that they'll write fanfiction and make art based on it.
COMEPARE WRITING: Look back at some of your old writing and compare your old technique to your new. Look at how far you've come since the start. Find pride in your progress.
DRAW YOUR OC'S: Just like character profiles, drawing your oc's can inspire you to write scenes around your drawings which could also be a side scene or might be used in your story.
MAKE A PLAYLIST: Make a playlist with songs that remind you of your characters/book. Get a feel of their vibes and capture them in something you can listen to while writing. The songs you pick could lead to writing side scenes based on the lyrics!
MAKE MOODBOARDS: I absolutely love making moodboards for my WIP. Finding pictures that give off my oc's/books' aesthetics allows a wider perspective of each and helps me get a better feeling for them. Pictures you find might inspire scenes.
REMEMBER: YOU DON'T HAVE TO WRITE TO BE PRODUCTIVE.
Doing other things for your book counts too! Don't force yourself to write if the spark isn't there because it might send you into a bigger slump seeing that your work isn't your best. By doing all these other things you might find motivation, and if not then at least you've helped your future self to save them doing it later. And even if all you write is ten words an hour, you've still written! It's still progress! Writing can be hard, but it's all worth it in the end.
