Being caught up with the LNs, it's really interesting going back and seeing an earlier version of Jinshi back when he wasn't as considerate of Maomao
This (LN 4) Jinshi is a far cry from LN 1 & 2 Jinshi, but there's still a lot. He's mainly thinking about himself and his own hardships of having to hide his identity. Gaoshun has been stressing for the past several chapters that Maomao is necessary to join their corner because she's useful
But now Jinshi is starting to realize knowing is going to cause her trouble. His "I'm scared" feels more aligned with his LN 1 concern of not wanting to trap her in the rear palace once she got the chance to leave (get fired)
But ultimately, this is still LN 4 Jinshi and he tries to win her over by showing her the benefits of aligning herself with him through helping her and Xiaolan, simply because (he asks for a favor lol but still)
