how non-writers think writing works: creating a detailed outline and plan, writing each section carefully and weaving in all the different story threads like a master creator, expertly creating a masterpiece with care and precision
how writing actually works: daydreaming that one scene, creating a half-formed plot in a daze all around it, swearing at characters that don't magic themselves into existence, becoming absolutely obsessed with the story for a solid week, it becomes your entire life, you sit down open a blank word document and write approximately two and a half chapters, lose interest, daydream an entirely new idea for a new story, rinse and repeat

me, trying to write: okay so i have all of my notes out, my doc is open, let me get started on this next chapter
also me: uh i actually forgot what happened last. also the main characters name. also the plot. you know what? i think i can take a break for a bit it'll be fine
1. Try to avoid using the same terms over and over again
When writing a kiss, it can be hard to find the right words. When stuck, read scenes from actual published authors, or even fanfics (I find most fanfics sometimes have better writing). You can also look up adjectives or verbs that can go with the specific atmosphere youโre going for.
2. Warn your readers of any possible triggers
This post was sort of intended for a romantic, consensual kiss, but I still felt the need to add this. If it is a non consensual kiss, or if there are any sort of violent themes, add a warning at the beginning of your book.
3. Focus on the sensory more than actually telling the reader the act
Donโt say โthey kissed.โ, unless you are doing it stylistically. Focus on the way the lips feel, the taste, the air around them, the emotionโฆ etc etc
4. The context of the kiss should match the way you describe it
A goodbye kiss should not read as an excited, โyay!โ type of kiss. This one is pretty self explanatory, but itโs easy to miss
5. Aftermath
Make sure it feels realโ it could be awkward once they pull away. Sad. Happy. Funny. Capture the tension of the aftermath just as you did the moment.

SYNOPSIS
At Rutherford Academy, power, prestige, and perfection ruleโand Asher Kingston sits at the top of it all. Head Boy. Football star. Heir to the Kingston fortune. Untouchable. Calm under pressure and impossible to read, heโs never been someone easily shaken.
Until a series of threatening messages from his ex proves that even he has limits.
Desperate for a solution, Asher needs one thing: a girlfriend convincing enough to make her disappear.
Vivian Russo never planned on being that girl. Head Girl of Rutherford and heir to the most powerful fashion house in the world, sheโs kind, composed, and not easily flustered. Sheโs spent years enduring Asher as a pain in the ass - so when he comes to her for help, she knows agreeing is a terrible idea.
She does it anyway.
The deal is simple: theyโll fake date to keep his ex at bay.
But Vivian has two non-negotiable conditions.
One: no physicality.
Two: donโt fall in love.
What starts as a carefully controlled arrangement quickly becomes something far more dangerous as the school watches their perfect pairing unfold. Old history resurfaces, boundaries blur, and while Mr. and Mrs. Perfect prove that pretending is easyโฆfeelings never follow the rules.
Because the hardest condition of all might be the one neither of them can keep.
