The Case (Final Wishes)
Evrick drove the two to the station. "You sure you wanna ask her?" He asked as he finished off his cigarette. "I'm sure, you don't have to monitor me." Shelley answered as she got out of the car, not waiting for him. "Hey I'm just looking out for you, you know how Miss Kelley is." He responded, dropping his cigarette out the window and stomping on it once his door was open. Slamming his door and locking the car before following Shelley inside.
They reached Miss Kelley's office, knocking on her door. "Come in." A stern voice called out, Evrick leaned against the doorframe. Nodding for Shelley to go first, Shelley groaned and opened the door. A stern purple haired woman with glasses and a perfect suit sat at the desk, eating some nachos. "Hello Miss Kelley, may we speak with you?" Shelley nervously asked, the woman raised her gaze to them before pointing to the chairs in front of her desk. Shelley and Evrick looked at each other before sinking slowly into the chairs. "What's the reason for the visit?" Miss Kelley sternly asked. "Well we received a call from some hikers up the trail in Everstone forest, Pages with disturbing imagery and writing were found near the creek." Shelley explained, causing Miss Kelley to raise an eyebrow. "What about it? Probably some kids playing a prank." She asked while observing Shelley. "Well we have reason to believe it belongs to The Butcher." The name made Miss Kelley's tough exterior fall. "The Butcher?" She asked, putting all her attention on Shelley. "Yes ma'am, we have old finger prints from the case and I'm sure the pages have some finger prints." Shelley explained causing Miss Kelley to furrow her brow. "And you're sure these are from him?" She asked with the most emotion the two have seen from her. "Yes Ma'am, it has exclusive details matching the case. It was also only ten miles from the barn the killings took place in." Evrick answered, turning to Shelley to pop the question. Shelley gulped hard as she turned her gaze to Miss Kelley. "And with your permission we would like to reopen the case." Shelley finally asked, there was an uncomfortable silence as Miss Kelley thought for a moment, the only sound being the screeching wind outside.
"You know, my sister was his last victim. She was kidnapped with her friend and although that friend made it, she didn't. If you can grant not only my family but the countless families he broke with closure then you have my full permission to pursue this case. I believe if anyone could solve it, it'd be you two." Miss Kelley expressed with tears in her eyes, Evrick and Shelley sat in shock, realizing the full extent of the damage this man did to the community. "We'd be honored, Miss Kelley." Shelley answered, shaking her hand before moving out of the room, Evrick in her follow.
"I had no clue that had happened to her sister." Shelley blurted out as the two sat in the break room. "Which makes it even more urgent for us to get started on the case." Evrick responded, sipping his soda as he pushed himself off the counter. "Where's the photos we took?" He added on. "Right here." Shelley answered as she opened her pocket, scattering them on the table before going to grab an evidence file. Evrick searched through the photos, placing them in piles before one caught his eye. An unfamiliar object was in the photo, so he thought before he took a closer look and it struck him. An unclothed skinny, pale, blonde woman was crouched behind a tree. Her position was unnatural as well as her appearance, her pupils were wide like saucers as her gaze was completely on the camera. Something about her was inhumane, something Evrick couldn't describe, her crouch looked incredibly stiff as only her knees bent, she sent chills down Evrick's spine.
Shelley turned back, evidence file in hand, she immediately noticed Evrick's uneasy expression. "What's the matter?" She asks before looking at the photo he held. "Holy shit." Shelley spat out. "That's.....uncanny." She described, that was the word Evrick was missing. "She could just be some homeless woman, but I don't remember seeing her there." Shelley muttered out. "I don't care whatever she was doing there she's terrifying." Evrick bluntly stated, causing Shelley to hit him. "Regardless, we have more to worry about. Let's just put the photos in the file and go home." He suggested, Shelley sighed and nodded. "You're right." She agreed as she scooped the photos in the file, making sure no damage could be done to them. Evrick grabbed the file and held it under his arm to go put it in his desk, as he started leaving Shelley called out to him. "Thanks for helping me." Shelley expressed, Evrick's facial expression softened before he muttered out. "Always." And with that he took his leave.
