I was thinking about how we, as âthe chatâ, are canonically crows or doozers or particles or whatever depending on whoâs stream we are watching, and how we kind of get to participate in the dream smp when we watch certain content creators, because some ccs made their chats part of their character lore. Some viewers even get really into the roleplay, calling themselves particle# 245820 or whatever when they make a donation. And itâs kinda fun.
We donât really get to do that with c!Quackity. I like the cinematic lore a lot, but cc!quackityâs streams are more like going to a movie premier where the director/actor is seated in the audience trying to gage everyoneâs reactions. Thereâs nothing wrong with that. I like movies. But we canât be part of the story if all improv is filmed before we can make our comments.Â
(And cc!Dream doesnât even stream his lore! Chat canât participate at all in the story because we never even get the opportunity to.)
But that got me thinking... does cc!Wilburâs chat potentially have a part in the dsmp lore?
Because cc!Wilbur doesnât really acknowledge chat during his dream smp streams. He doesnât reply to comments or thank subscribers or ask us questions about things that heâs missed since his last stream. At most, Wilbur will sometimes look at us and wink, like weâre the audience members in his silly little play. I guess this means cc!Wilburâs chat is kind of like cc!Quackityâs in a way... but I donât know...
Have you ever seen Fleabag?
In Fleabag, the titular character will occasionally glance at or talk directly to the camera. And none of the other characters in the show will notice these brief asides. The character is merely breaking the fourth wall like sheâs in a film noir. Â
But then there was this one time when Fleabag âshared a lookâ with the audience, and the hot priest went, âWhat are you looking at?â It shocked me to my very core when that happened. Because suddenly, I realized that maybe I was more than just a member in the showâs audience. It was more like I was in the characterâs audience and always had been.
So... what if itâs not cc!Wilbur who âshares a lookâ with chat on occasion, but c!Wilbur breaking the forth wall to acknowledge the audience in his head that none of the other characters notice? And what if, one day, another character does notice?
Suddenly, we, as cc!Wilburâs chat, are no longer just mere bystanders watching cc!Wilburâs performance and clapping at the end of the scene. No, we could potentially be the made up audience in c!Wilburâs head. We could be c!Wilburâs delusions brought on by stress or mental illness, a way to cope with his trauma manifested as a theater kidâs beloved and attentive audience.
And you know what, Iâm kinda down for being a manifestations of c!Wilburâs mental illness. That sounds like a vibe. I could roleplay that, no problem! :)
