Carbink!!!!

Carbink’s an underappreciated lil dude. Basically a crystalline rabbit rock, it’s very cute but not in a conventional, marketable way. It’s just Carbink!

Carbink is seemingly based on carbuncles, creatures with crystals on their forehead, though Carbink is a much more rocky take on the concept than is typical. It’s both Rock- and Fairy-type, appropriate for a gemstone creature, notably one of a tragically small handful of crystalline rock types. There’s only like, what, this, Diancie, and Gigalith? And Diancie is basically just a continuation of Carbink’s concept anyway. We need way way more!!!! Crystals are the best rocks!!!!!!

Carbink’s creativeness is subtle, but it’s there and it’s sublime. Like, rock creatures that are more or less still just rocks are actually quite scarce, both in and out of this franchise. Usually they’ve at least got limbs or something, but all Carbink’s got is a head on a body that just kinda floats around somehow. It’s also not especially rare according to the dex, despite its eye-catching appearance, though it does require high temperatures deep underground to form. What with being a crystal and all :U

Carbink’s also got a lovely shiny. It doesn’t actually change much, but the darker grey coupled with the cyan mane look marvellous, with the heightened contrast between crystal and regular rock giving some greater emphasis to Carbink’s best overall quality. Shows how a relatively subtle change can actually go a long way with shinies. Though now that I think of it, red crystals would’ve been super rad actually….

There’s not really a lot to say about Carbink overall, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great pokemon. It’s not a personal favourite or anything, but it is a pokemon I’m quite fond of, and it could really use some more love.

But yeah.

3 years since I last tried to make a fakemon, and I immediately strike gold.
