(Book 98) Exceptional. Gentlemen, military history enthusiasts, this one is for you. "Devotion" follows the true story of two naval aviators during the Korean War, one of whom, Jesse Brown, was the first black naval carrier pilot. This book was about so much more than race. The story may be a bit hagiographic, but I could hardly put it down. These were real people, and their story is told in a gripping, well-paced, and compelling way. I didn't know much about the Korean war beyond what's briefly covered in US History II and a few things from MASH. I did some light research - mostly checking to see who would live through the events of the book. Knowing how it would end did not make finishing the book any easier, but this is a story worth reading. Definitely looking forward to seeing the movie soon. This may be my nonfiction of the year. #read #read2022 #nonfictionbooks #militaryhistory #koreanwar #devotionmovie #usnavy #gonavy #navalaviation https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck0q6a2AGC9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

(Books 94, 96, 97, 100-103) I finished my annual Harry Potter reread this morning. A friend asked me recently if I still get anything out of them, or if it’s just become a comfort read. In some ways, the answer is both. During a tumultuous time of year, it’s nice to have something comforting to fall back on, and the themes prevalent throughout this series are timeless. I believe there’s always something to be gained, even if it’s just remembering what you’ve forgotten. Really, rereading the same series every year has taught me more about myself than about the world of Harry Potter. The characters you identify with change as you get older and as your life evolves. In recent years, I’ve come to understand perspectives I had previously dismissed and appreciate the complexity of characters I had only seen in black and white. There are layers upon layers to these stories if you allow them the time to form. Finishing this year’s reread brought me over the finish line of 100 books for the year. I’ll still be reading some new stuff, but I’ll be slowing down and taking the time to reread some favorites from this last year before making my 2022 Review of Books. #read #reading #readingchallenge #read2022 #harrypotter #30 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl7GGqWP6A2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The Shadows Between Us ♦ Tricia Levenseller | Review
"The Shadows Between Us" is an entertaining homicidal conspiracy party. #Review
The Shadows Between Us ♦ Tricia Levenseller | ReviewIt was incredibly fun reading The Shadows Between Us. The book captured my attention from the very first page and retained it throughout the entire work of fantasy.I often wonder what it is about the infatuation between two morally dubious, murderous individuals that I am utterly addicted to, that I hardly could stop reading to do some chores.…
