(Books 94, 96, 97, 100-103) I finished my annual Harry Potter reread this morning. A friend asked me recently if I still get anything out of them, or if it’s just become a comfort read. In some ways, the answer is both. During a tumultuous time of year, it’s nice to have something comforting to fall back on, and the themes prevalent throughout this series are timeless. I believe there’s always something to be gained, even if it’s just remembering what you’ve forgotten. Really, rereading the same series every year has taught me more about myself than about the world of Harry Potter. The characters you identify with change as you get older and as your life evolves. In recent years, I’ve come to understand perspectives I had previously dismissed and appreciate the complexity of characters I had only seen in black and white. There are layers upon layers to these stories if you allow them the time to form. Finishing this year’s reread brought me over the finish line of 100 books for the year.
