I feel like a lot of leftist circles are more concerned with āsaying the right thingā rather than āhaving empathy and critical thinking and trying your bestā and I think this has led to two things
a) people being scared of trying or asking questions or engaging in conversation or because they are afraid of accidentally saying the āwrong thingā = being a bad irredeemable person
b) people thinking that as long as they say the correct thing they are automatically inherently good and can do no harm and could never unintentionally contribute to oppression and if you challenge them on something theyāve said you must be one of the bad guys TM because a good person TM would never question another good person TM
And I think this a huge fucking problem
(I also think that my point about leftists spaces taking common conservative sentiments ā āwomen are soft and weak and men are strong and intellectualā ā and rephrasing it using leftist language ā āhozier writes like a lesbianā ā is kind of a result of this. Because āHozier writes like a lesbianā sounds like a good and progressive and queer-positive sentiment (lesbians!!!!!) and then they never take any time to examine that statement and where it stems from)
