Pass the “No Kings Act!”

I’m writing in support of the “No Kings Act,” introduced by Leader Schumer in August. This bill would reassert Congress’s constitutional authority and curb the judiciary’s unchecked power.

The "No Kings Act" addresses several key issues:

Congressional Authority Under Article III: The No Kings Act uses Congress’s constitutional authority under Article III to set "Exceptions" and "Regulations" to the Supreme Court's appellate jurisdiction. This power has been historically recognized as an important tool to limit the Court's reach, particularly when it comes to cases that could undermine democratic governance.

Neutralizing the Trump v. United States Decision: Leader Schumer’s legislation aims to counteract the Supreme Court’s decision granting former President Trump—and all presidents—immunity from prosecution for official acts. By removing lower courts' jurisdiction over presidential immunity and removing the Supreme Court’s appellate authority in this context, the No Kings Act asserts Congress’s constitutional role in preserving the rule of law and ensuring accountability at the highest levels.

Legal Safeguards: The bill also limits the Supreme Court's ability to review the bill's constitutionality, thereby reinforcing Congress’s role in determining the boundaries of judicial authority. This is not only a constitutionally justified action but also a necessary measure to protect democratic norms from judicial overreach.

If we don’t set limits on the power of a sitting president, or on our out-of-control Supreme Court, our democracy will suffer—greatly. Please support the No Kings Act. Thanks.

to connect with others here who felt the same way they did.

i don’t care if tumblr is not the same story as it was 7yrs ago,

because I trust it more than anywhere else on the internet to truly tell mine.

and so here it is:

Shine, Rodriguez

Two years ago, I started writing music for an anonymous project so that I could have the freedom to be honest about my perspectives, sexuality, and depression without fear of judgment from my peers; or persecution from religious, traditional family that I can’t fully trust.

I've never done this before. True Vulnerability. Sharing every honest ounce of pain from my Life to the Internet; accompanied only by sounds from my Brain that I've tried endlessly to recreate with just software and a guitar.

This is not easy for Me. I love my family and friends more than anything; but the words I let go throughout this project will certainly change most of the relationships that I've ever had.

[sometimes it all feels so hopeless. posting my life’s work on the public web for no one to hear....]

at this point though it's just something I need to do.

I hope that if this project finds You, it will help make sense of whatever You're dealing with in life.

“Tu right nahi hai Naina, bas mujhse bahut alag hai”, when Bunny told you this I could feel that how unique and out of the world you were that even Bunny, who had travelled around the world, felt attracted to your ‘Life at Home’ ideology. He agreed to miss out on a fancy light show to attend a great and the best sunset he could ever lay eyes on. You made him feel the void he had been carrying around of not going home after his dad’s passing away and he opened to you about it in the late night way back to the hotel. 

I still remember the way you were in your academic year, the scholar, the ‘drowned into books’ student. I had been there once too, maybe not as much into the books you were but I know how it feels. I am still a student and I am still a thorough one when it comes to it, not because I am bookworm like you but I feel  happy to have achieved a milestone to finish a book from page one to last. 

You went on a trip by leaving a note to your mom and hoping they would not be angry from you. Well I would love to know what dreadful adventures you went through at home after you came back from the beautiful and a life changing one. I wouldn’t dare to do such a gutsy move all of a sudden. 

Now getting back to the train where the group played ‘Never have I Ever’ and let me tell you that I have been through what you went through, we aren’t the adventurous ones or have done things in life, even to the extent of not drinking a beer while playing the game. I know how it felt to be left out in situations, we are what we are and we are happy with it, right? After all, it is the concept of self that matters in the end. 

I am glad you grew out to be a best friend one could ask for, you fell in love but didn’t express because your path didn’t merge with him that time and he was very dedicated to his plans and so were you. And he came running to you the second time the situation presented itself. Isn’t that the happy ending we all look for? A trip and a guy changed your life. And you changed him at a wedding, you brought Kabir home. 

I hope you are living a great life with Bunny and may it stay forever.

When your show started, I was in high school and it was my favourite show ever. It had so much potential! Monsters, folktales, the American Fantasy-Western with jokes and ghosts and interesting characters that filled the uniquely colourful world of small town America. Wow, I thought, I’ve found it. This is the show for me. Oh, but how wrong I was.

Over the next fifteen years, as I grew up, left high school, fell in and out of love, studied, worked and travelled. As I learned who I was and what kind of world I was living in, you spent fifteen seasons trotting out the same hyper-masculine power-fantasty. You spent fifteen years bludgeoning us with the same tired picture of toxic co-dependency, the same lies and fights, the same pseudo-moral-dilemma of weather or not to empathise with a pair of selfish murderers. You gave the same speeches over and over and over. Well, I suppose we can’t expect personal growth from characters created by someone who has obviously never experienced any. So, across fifteen seasons, you fridged women, shared offensive stereotypes, insulted your audience and queer-baited us all any time your ratings dropped. In fact, you proved more backwards than any of the most backward folk in any of the smallest towns that Sam and Dean ever travelled to. 

But I don’t have the time or the energy to tell you every way you’ve hurt us. Besides, if you wanted to listen, you’d have done it by now. But in case you ever care to figure it out, try season eight’s ‘Man’s Best Friend With Benefits’ which has a Black woman wearing a collar as a white man’s servant or look at Charlie’s out of character and off-screen death or look at any other woman who was killed to try and wring a bit more angst out. Look at the countless onscreen jokes about Dean and Castiel’s relationship and really think about what was supposed to be so funny about them. Look at the sheer laziness of the emotional arc of any story in your series and look at the substance of anything remotely resembling an apology that you’ve made. I have gay friends is not an excuse anymore.

Then, imagine your fans. Not the ideal fan you imagined having when you fantasised about your success. Imagine the people who supported your work. Imagine the teenagers, going through their own upheavals as they dealt with growing up. Imagine people in the midst of social and political turmoil. Imagine the gay kids looking for representation without stereotypes. Imagine the girls, trying to picture themselves in a world where their existence wasn’t just token. Imagine the people of colour and the women and the boys who were just a little soft. Imagine what it would have meant to them if a show that started out so macho could really get in touch with reality. The reality where everyone is different, but looking for the same comforts. The reality where gender is a spectrum and love is boundless and every single person is a fantastic mess of beliefs and experiences. Imagine a man out there whose father taught him to objectify women and feel nothing. Imagine him seeing himself in Dean and imagine what a revelation it would be if Dean could quit being his father’s soldier and start being himself.

In a changing world where awareness of sex and gender diversity has skyrocketed, where Black Lives Matter and MeToo has shaped the media landscape, where people have more access to information and to differing perspectives than ever before, it astounds me that any program could go through all of that with us and still be so firmly rooted in the past. It amazes me that despite protest from within and without, you barrelled head-long into an ending that ignored the energy of the cast, the desires of the fans and the logic of progress. You excluded a character who is almost solely responsible for any success beyond season 4. You gave us a deus ex machina and a cheap grey wig and a farewell that rung so utterly false it was laughable. 

When you spend fifteen years telling stories, you have to expect you’ll become a symbol. You did become a symbol - for a time in people’s lives, for a community of fans, for a way of life. But in the end you became a symbol for the holdouts. The people who refuse to change. The people so obsessed with an idea they had fifteen years ago that they can’t see the incredible opportunities they are absolutely wasting.
