If you're following the news, you're scared. Or you should be. Things are getting worse, not better. And they wont stop with the most marginalized of us; if you're not rich, you're nothing to them except labor.
I've been worried about current events, world news, and continental politics for a while now; at least 1 year. That's when I started packing my Go-Bags. It occurs to me now that my skills as a veteran would be useful for other LGBTQIAS2+, so I've decided to tell you what I deemed necessary in an emergency Bug Out Bag. See below.

Next, you're going to want something to help lug all your gear. I present to you: The Monowalker!
It's not hard to build one out of pallets and a wheelbarrow wheel. Just use two long 1x1s to run from your hands to the wheel in a triangle, screw some spacers along the way back, and put an axle through the point of the v. If someone wants pictures I can get them. I am opening up my asks for this purpose.

Hey, we’re in line for some absurd temperatures here in the southwest this week. This is very important to know and keep in mind. Be safe, stay hydrated, stay out of the sun as much as you can.
If you’re looking for a good way to spend the rest of your week, Archive.org have unearthed a gigantic collection of cassettes from the mid-eighties into the mid-nineties. According to their notes, the collection was saved from the archives of noise-arch.net and donated by former CKLN-FM radio host Myke Dyer in August of 2009. Due to the size and obscurity, the collection hasn’t been properly notated but is said to include cassettes ranging from “tape experimentation, industrial, avant-garde, indie, rock, DIY, subvertainment and auto-hypnotic materials”. Head to Archive now to download the free collection.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS; STATE GOVERNORS & LEGISLATURES
Abortion as reproductive healthcare is a right, PERIOD.
45 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
Summary: The open letter emphasizes that abortion is a fundamental aspect of reproductive healthcare and a matter of human rights. It draws attention to the comparison between the bodily autonomy granted to deceased individuals and the lack of autonomy extended to women facing unwanted pregnancies. The letter argues that forced pregnancy violates human rights, as stated by the United Nations. It expresses concern over the potential impact of the Supreme Court's decision on Roe v. Wade, highlighting the dangers and injustices faced by women due to restricted access to abortion. The letter underscores the importance of codifying reproductive healthcare rights, including abortion, into federal law to ensure freedom and equality for all individuals. Planned Parenthood's quote emphasizes the significance of bodily autonomy and the need for healthcare free of shame, stigma, or judgment.

A cadaver who holds viable organs ripe for life saving donations can impact eight individual human lives. One citizen can save eight viable human beings, living breathing people with families, likely with social security numbers, even jobs, but most certainly: with economic investment in their very existence. But, without the express consent by a dead person, that means nothing. The body will be processed for eternal rest rendering its lifesaving organs useless to the living. As is legal, as is that cadaver’s right, the right to body autonomy.
Why then do the citizens of the United States come to hear that the supreme court is of the opinion that the same body autonomy granted to corpses in the face of documented citizens is not extended to women in the face of undocumented fetuses? It is the right of a person to decide what their body is used for, before death as well as after. This includes their reproductive rights. In fact, forced pregnancy is an assault to the human rights set forth by the United Nations (UN) of which the United States of America (USA) is a permanent member of. Denial of reproductive healthcare such as abortion is a violation of human rights.
Depending on the supreme court’s decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the already tenuous protections provided by Roe v. Wade will be entirely up for debate. Regardless of your personal beliefs on the morality of abortions, know that unprotected access to abortions will, and has already, result in women being charged with manslaughter over uncontrollable miscarriages, families weeping for doctors to abort miscarrying fetuses that are actively killing their beloved wives and mothers, women who are sentenced to death by pregnancy with a non-viable fetus. Even a healthy woman and fetus can, and do, turn deadly at a moments notice. To speak nothing on why a person might decide against the permanent body and life changes outside of concerns about mortality. Or how these policies disproportionately effect transgender people, people of color, and impoverished people. Or even how we have proof that reinforcing sexual education, access to birth control, paternity protections, and family welfare programs all are more cost effective, more impactful, and more humane ways to decrease the rate of abortions.
To restrict the access to reproductive healthcare, access to abortions, to any of these people, to do so will kill Americans. Codify the right to all reproductive healthcare, including abortion, into federal law.
Quote Planned Parenthood, “Our bodies are our own — if they are not, we cannot be truly free or equal. Across the country, some politicians are trying to make decisions about our bodies for us. We won't let the abortion bans sweeping the country put our lives and futures at risk, and we won't be silenced while our fundamental right to control our bodies is taken away.
“Everyone deserves health care that's free of shame, stigma, or judgment.”

I am saying this as a Gen Z queer, before y’all get your guns out to fucking shoot me.
But I need y’all to understand that if someone doesn’t give you their government name in a queer space, it’s not because they’re “mysterious,” and you do not have permission to take it upon yourself to figure out their “real identity” and go digging for them online like a private investigator. First, that’s creepy and a violation of privacy and reasonable boundaries. Second, some of us keep our private and professional lives very separate because we need to keep food on the fucking table and a roof over our heads, and our private life could jeopardize that.
“Why won’t you tell me about your parents?” “Why can’t I know your real name?” “Where do you work?”
1.) Not all our parents would bake us a fucking cake when we come out. Some of us are closeted. Surely you understand this? You also do not need to know my parent’s names or occupations; we are both adults. I do not need nor want to mix you and my private life with my parents and my public life.
2.) Trans people do not owe you their dead name or government name
3.) I’m not telling you for the sake of job security. I am a government fucking caseworker working amidst a fucking lavender panic!
“There’s no way you’re a different person outside this; you’re still you at your core. What harm is there—”
No, I am a completely different person. A different person with a different personality and different interests and a different name and presentation. I am a completely different person because I keep this life and my public life private to avoid fracturing 90% of my interpersonal relationships and 100% of my professional ones.
“You’re not out? But you’re so confident.”
See— that’s part of the issue. Y’all assume someone is in the closet because they hate themselves or lack self-identity. Some of us know exactly who we are, but need to prioritize financial stability or else our entire life gets exponentially harder immediately.
You meet queer people over the age of 40 and one of the first/earliest questions is “who knows?”
I need y’all to start bringing that energy. Because it’s not always safe for someone to be out and not everyone is safe to be out around.
There is a misnomer that “the closet” inherently means “doesn’t know they’re queer” and not “isn’t out widely and publicly.” “Outness” is often a patchwork.

In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessible…
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damage…
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
In the last few years, I moved from the southern US to the northern US. People always joke that people in the south can't handle the cold, or that people in the north can't handle the heat, but I would argue that while upbringing affecting preference is a factor, the more important factor is infrastructure. In Texas, we had lighter, draftier houses that breathed. This helps with heat, but in the winter, if it got down around 15⁰ f (like it usually did up to a couple of times a year), the houses couldn't keep up. It was impossible to heat the indoors over 60⁰, even with blasting the heat. Alternatively, buildings up north don't always have air conditioning, so if it gets up over 95⁰ it is really difficult to handle, especially for prolonged stretches. Climate isn't just personal preference. We have architecture from over the past 100 yrs that is adapted to handle the temps it was before global warming. The architecture in Europe is even older. If people say the temp is untenable, believe them.
If your HVAC system can't heat your house, set up a tent on your bed. I recommend the biggest bed and share it for warmth of you can. A pillow fort blanket will help if you don't have a clean tent.
Reference: I live near the Arctic Circle with -20°F winters.

i know we hear this a lot with gender, "don't date someone who doesn't accept your gender", but this goes for you too intersex people.
don't date someone who isn't okay with your body.
• if you have atypical genitalia and they don't like it/wanna push you to get surgery/you can't have non painful sex and they push anyways/etc, dump them. you don't deserve that
• if you have hormonal intersex traits and they want you to go onto hormones because it'd "be better for you" or "make you look more normal", dump them. that's your decision not theirs.
• if they're pushy about how you label yourself/your experiences, dump them.
etc etc etc
you don't deserve to be in a relationship where someone wants to forcibly push you into a sex binary or erase your intersexuality. i promise you there are better people out there. you aren't lucky they are dating you 'in spite of' your intersex traits, there are people out there who will love you FOR your intersex traits. FOR your identity, FOR WHO YOU ARE. Don't accept mediocrity because you are just trying to make the relationship last or just want to be loved or whatever it is. you are intersex, and if they cannot accept that, are disgusted by that, want to hide that, etc, leave them. you will only harm yourself by being with someone who doesn't care about your best intersests.
