Might be building my own gallows with this one but I feel like Sally Jackson is an underbaked character (it has been a little while since my last reread to be fair)
Like, what bad decisions has Sally Jackson made in the narrative? Married Gabe and was a bit late to the punch on sending Percy to CHB. Aside from that she’s sort of… eh? Like, she’s the most palatable character in the entire book series, serving straight buttered noodles.
She’s not full on fridged like Emily Chase, I can’t even remember is Carter and Sadie have a mother, but the extent of her character seems to be “Cooks food, gets degree, marries a Blowfish, spawns a child” and that one scene from BoO with a gun. I’m not saying what exists is necessarily bad but coming from someone who was raised by a single mother there is a noticeable lack of complexity in who Sally Jackson is as a person. She’s infinitely warm, welcoming, and compassionate to a fault to the point I have to ask what drew Poseidon to her?
I’m not about to ponder the sexual proclivities of a serial rapist but why her in particular? If it was just her looks then I feel like that should be specified in the story because every time their relationship is discussed it’s a tragic romance that could never be rather than an extramarital affair between a god and a woman who wasn’t even thirty.
Hot take but jc wanting wwx to keep the promise of being his subordinate has never been sweet or caring
