Shauna burst into your dorm building like she was on fire. She raced up the stairs, panting from the effort. She pushed her way through the maze of corridors. Her hurried footsteps echoed through the building, and anyone in the hallway turned to look.
Because, after all, the sight of Shauna Shipman, of all people, running with flowers in her hand and flushed cheeks was not an everyday occurrence. Three-quarters of the students knew exactly who Shauna was. It was hard not to, when she had been the most popular player on the Yellowjackets team. When, frankly, she had slept with most of the girls in her year.
Shauna Shipman didn’t do flowers and cute, mushy dates. Shauna wasn’t the kind of person who got attached to anyone. The kind of person who would, two days earlier, ask you about your favorite flowers. That’s why, even if she had walked at a normal pace, she still would’ve drawn attention.
She nearly missed the turn in the hallway. She was already hot and sweaty from training, but now she was practically dripping. The heat outside certainly didn’t help, with her hair sticking to her forehead. Her hand tightened around the bouquet.
It’s not like you two had a date planned. Shauna had taken the initiative herself.
That’s why you were in complete shock when you heard a knock at the door, and then saw her flushed face. She was breathing heavily, and the bouquet in her hand immediately caught your attention. She had thrown a hoodie over her training shirt, the hood sagging behind her. She was still in her training shorts, and one of her shoes was untied.
Maybe it was your imagination, but it seemed like she blushed even more when she saw you. Her gaze swept over you. The usual confident smirk on her lips shifted into something softer. In her dark eyes was something playing—something you hadn’t let yourself name yet.
You glanced around the hallway. A few people were obviously trying not to stare, but their eyes kept darting back to Shauna.
Shauna, who couldn’t seem to take her eyes off you.
“Hey, uh…” she hesitated, scratching the back of her neck and shifting from foot to foot. If you didn’t know her, you’d think she was nervous. Maybe she was. Maybe the cocky, confident Shauna turned into a shy mess around you.
“You know, sorry for just showing up like this,” she continued, struggling to form her sentences. “But I was thinking maybe we could go out? Or… just spend some time together?” she asked, biting her lip and holding the flowers out toward you.
