Oh yes, I love Menhelen
Something quick, I really like to think about the perspectives of both of them as the war progressed. How love becomes blind pain.

trick or treat (Ik I'm super late but I've been in the hospital ok let me enjoy my late Halloween)
Treat! Old art because hehe
Hope you're doing well, anon!!
Been thinking of Menelaus and Helen, and the love that survived to the end of the war.
Now, to be fair, the war was more than just romance. Paris violated xenia, Menelaus was humiliated as both king and husband, and the oath of Helen's suitors needed to be answered,
Agamemnon didn't raise an army solely for his brother's broken heart.
But pride has limits.
It can get you to declare war, launch the ships, and help you through the first campaign seasons.
But it's harder to explain ten years. Why is Menelaus still here? Why not remarry? Why not cut his losses? Why not let Helen go?
There's the political answer, but there's also the emotional one:
Pride only goes so far. Love goes further.
someone should write a helen/menelaus oneshot of menelaus dissociating after he finds out paris and helen have had a daughter together
This Menelaus quote (from a retelling) is pretty great
'But this much I tell you: for all her frailties, I have always loved my wife. Even when I stood above her with a sword in my hand, I knew that I loved her and the knowledge was strong enough to stay my hand. Helen is as life itself to me. I've been a dead man all these long years since she left me. And I would rather die now than live without her for another day.'
