I am REALLY going back to my roots with this, I haven't done one of these posts in 8 years...man, time flies...

But after all this time I am calling upon my powers of foreshadowing once more!! A lot of people think Aglae is gonna turn out to be Lila in disguise but the more I think about it, I think Aglae is gonna end up being the heroic holder of the Butterfly Miraculous.

Now I know what you're thinking. She's terrified of butterflies, there's no way she'd make a good Butterfly! Ahhh but you see, what's exactly why she'd make a great Butterfly Holder! She arguably more than anyone knows the potential danger of the Miraculous's powers and if she had it, she would do everything in her power to use for the greater good so no one else is afraid of butterflies/akumas like she is. She already tries to protect her friends from akumatization. She's soft and supportive just like a moth should be but also doesn't like to have the spotlight that much. Traditionally the biggest thing associated with Butterflies is evolution and change, and that's still technically true in Miraculous even though the miraculous's power is officially known as transmission. In Wreckless Driver, Aglae expects her problems to be solved right away not realizing she needs time to evolve and change. Her becoming the heroic Butterfly would be the ultimate evolution for both her as well as the Miraculous. Her arc as a character even parallels the arc of the butterfly miraculous if you think about it- Aglae used to LOVE butterflies, just like how the Butterfly Miraculous used to be a force of good. And now both the miraculous and the love of butterflies are gone, worse than ever. But eventually there will come a time where the past is restored for both, in a manner of speaking.

Nooroo could really benefit from finally having a holder that's good again, and Aglae could learn from him how to fear butterflies just a little less. Plus, similar to Daizzi and Rose, Aglae's entire color scheme matches Nooroo's with all those shades of purple. Heck, her hoodie literally looks like that purple goo magic that surrounds people as they're being akumatized. Granted that could be a reference to how akumatization is always on her mind but still! And even this flashback screenshot of Aglae shown above, its framing reminds me a lot of Hawkmoth's magical girl pose. AND, we even see Aglae in front of very conveniently placed round window in WD while she's at the Butterfly sanctuary, and who else had a round window in front of him all the time???

How do you explain people's partner Digimon then?

Adventure: They needed the powers of the Crests. Magic tablets that represented one of the eight virtues, and the one the chosen child represents the most. Example: Tai represents Courage. The kids had to channel this extra power to get their partners to Digivolve

Yes, they have the power inside then all along. But that's the point, it's the power of the virtue that the Digimon can't normally access

Data Squad/Savers was the first series to break this as they just needed to give a larger DNA Charge, aka push out more fighting spirit

How does the whole Digivolution thing work? Like what dictates what a Digimon turns in to?

Also what's all the difference kind of Digievolution stuff? I've seen some clips but I swear every time they do it they're saying something different

YAY! I GET TO NERD TALK AGAIN!

Well, this is gonna need to be a question split into two parts

Part 1: How Digivolution Works

Digimon are data. 1's and 0's. Digivolution is their life cycle. And like how humans change as a person from their environment, so do Digimon's form based on theirs

Who, what and how they interact with influencing this

For example: Two Agumon could have near identical lives. But if one spent a week walking around near a volcano while another goes around a desert, the first is likely to become Meramon while the second would become Tyrannomon.

However as they are data, large items/influxes of a certain type of data can directly influence them and force them down a path to a specific Digimon. This is why partner Digimon in shows have a set line they rarely deviate from, their bond with their partner/their partner using a magic item keeping them on a solid path or achieve super powerful/special forms

Digimon have several levels, which I shall now quickly go over.

At birth they start as an egg

Egg hatches and they are a blob of a Digimon, the Baby Level/Fresh/In-Training 1. Normally unable to form words. Barley able to defend themselves

They Digivolve quickly into the next stage, In-Training/In-Training 2. They gain more define features and able to move around by themselves easily but not able to fully defend themselves

Next is the Rookie level, the standard/main level for most partner Digimon. In Japan it is known as the Child level. Your Agumon, your Veemon, your Guilmon, Gammamon, so on and so forth

You then get Champion Level, or Adult. The natural end of a Digimon's life style. Powerful and fully independent. Angemon, Garurumon, Stingmon, Gargomon, Golemon.

Ultimate/Perfect is the stage beyond Champion. An unnatural state. Normally achieved through purely artificial means. Becoming a Cyborg, angelic or demonic energy, curses, becoming a werewolf, magic, mythological energies and so on. Triceramon, Canoweissmon, Myotisemon, Andromon, LadyDevimon, MetalGreymon, Mummymon. In the English dub this form is called Ultimate, and I have to be clear because next is...

Mega/Ultimate. Mega is the dub name. A super rare and powerful form. The apex of natural Digimon life, almost always a perfect state with no 'flaws' in its design. Gallantmon, Alphamon, Beelzemon, Sakyamon, Machinedramon. However despite being so powerful, there are myths of something further beyond...

Super Ultimate. Mega+. Ultra. Three names exist for this stage that rivals god hood. Sometimes Digimon of this level are treated as Mega, these are forms that exceed the laws of the Digital World. Omegamon, Alphamon Oryuken, UlforceVeedramon Future Mode, Arkadiamon Super Ultimate

Now, on to the next bit...

Part 2: Types Of Digivolution

Normal Digivolution is just that... normal. Going up from one level to another.

As Ultimate Level is the first ‘Unnatural’ Stage of Evolution, going from Champion Level to Ultimate Level is referred to as Super Digivolution is most anime. Although sometimes they just use the normal phrase. On that same note, they tend to use Mega Digivolution/Ultimate Digivolution for reaching that stage.

This next thing is something that can happen to any Digimon, but is most common with Mega Level Digimon. This is Mode Change. It is very simple, as a Digimon will reconfigure its data to alter its properties. Not rewriting itself as to Digivolve, but enough to augment itself. Not always combat focused. Common Digimon that have this are as follows: Gallantmon Crimson Mode, Kuzuhamon Miko Mode, MagnaAngemon Priest Mode, Deckerdramon Float Mode, MetalGreymon Alterus Mode, Belphamon Sleep Mode

Sometimes a Digimon will Digivolve... to the same level. This is very rare and needs a huge influx of data, normally done through an outside means. This is known as Slide Evolution.

The Armour Level is a mysterious Level. This form is equivalent to a Champion Level but it can be pushed to even Mega Level stats. It is closer/more accurate to call this a form of 'pseudo evolution' as under normal circumstances it augments the Rookie's data with power and energy and... armour

The Armour Level is made using strange data catches known as Armour DigiEgg’s, the items being the size of a palm, it infuses them with the power that encases them in armour to reach a new Stage.

Armour Digivolution is the process by which a Digimon using an Armour DigiEgg merges with it and gains its abilities.

When Digivolving up multiple Stages, such as going from Rookie straight to Ultimate or higher, this is known as Warp Digivolving as they are skipping existing stages and calling up Data of their higher forms

When two Digimon fuse together, they become a stage beyond what they are. An Ultimate Level and an Ultimate Level fuse together to form a Mega Level, for example. This is known as DNA Digivolution, also known as a Jogress in Japanese, and the Digimon formed is their own unique personality, and their own sense of self. Even if their existence is normally temporary.

When a Digimon integrates the data of another into themselves they use a Process called DigiXros, similar to Mode Change where it is more of a side grade or grants new abilities rather than a pure power boost.

X-Evolution is a dangerous process. Long ago, Yggdrasil unleashed a virus to cull away Digimon. This X-Virus was a plague that ended the lives of many a Digimon. But luckily, it is something that can be adapted to. But it is lucky, it is something that only the strongest can survive and deal with. But those who do become much stronger

The Legendary Spirits are the remains of the 10 Legendary Warriors who represent the ten elements, each warrior's spirit being split in two. One 'Human Spirit' and one 'Beast Spirit'.

Spirit Evolution is the process of using a Spirit to Digivolve. Any human or Digimon, if in possession of the Legendary Spirits, can use this ability. Fusion Spirit Evolution is using two Spirits to achieve a stronger form. Unified Spirit Evolution is the process of using five full sets of spirits and combining them to reach an even stronger form. And Ancient Spirit Evolution uses all 10 spirits to become Susanoomon
