Bliss.
One of my favourite photos. Taken at Mallacoota, Victoria.
All those years ago

Today's small (or very large!) victory
You've probably seen pictures from Mallacoota. It's that small tourist town where 4000 people had to shelter in the beach under blood red skies, and eventually had to be evacuated by the Navy.
Well, the fire is out!
This is Australia. It’s only getting worse. Want to see a nightmare? Google “Mallacoota fires”. Please spread the word.

2019: Ordovician turbidites, scraped off a subducted plate, outcropping at Quarry Beach, Mallacoota.
For those of you not in Australia those in the town of Mallacoota had to flee the town due to the fires. The fires moved so fast they could not leave the town so had to flee to the beaches and were then evacuated by the Australian Navy.
Yes folks - it’s that bad, the fires move so quickly and have a ferocity never seen before...
If you’ve never been to Australia you may not be aware of its size. It’s almost as big on land mass as the USA
Smoke clouds are the size of Europe
Our Prime Minister refused to meet with fire chiefs who were warning of this catastrophe. What did he do instead? He cut their funding - one might think he was hoping for this disaster to depopulate and clear areas without worrying about pesky environmentalists and conservation areas that have now been destroyed
Also where’s our water gone Mr Morrison? Why are private dams being built (not for the population of Australia) but for foreign interests to buy and profit from whilst we’re in drought?
Our precious water is being diverted to mines to generate more fossil fuels and to fracking wells that use an extraordinary amount of water
Our country is burning. Unique species of animals are becoming functionally extinct. You have destroyed our biodiversity which will make it hard to repopulate and yes we the people of Australia blame you Mr Morrison for you incompetent leadership and for not allowing preparations to be made for this catastrophic event
