The whole family ❤️
Earlier today Mumma introduced one of her babies (see previous post) and later this morning I met the whole family
There’s water in the bowl on the roof so they must be showing them the ropes 💕

Mumma Butcher Bird introduces her baby
From a distance I saw the black and white butcher bird feeding the brown one
It wasn’t until this happened I realised it was her baby
He’s singing to me again

I’m so in love with this beautiful bird. He sings like a butcher bird (see previous posts) but from some angles looks a bit like a kookaburra
Regardless I adore him - when it’s raining he sings on the railing on our deck, he comes to say good morning. It’s such a special feeling when a wild bird forms a connection with you
The Gang of Four (the minor birds) has now become the Gang of Six. I could only get three of them in the picture
Beautiful Butcher Bird singing in the rain
A couple of months ago my dog found this young kookaburra in the garden. Thankfully she’s a sweetheart and didn’t hurt him/her.
We phoned a local wildlife rescue and the RSPCA and were told to move the little one to a safer area.
We did with mum and dad watching and they continued to feed him/her.
It was really interesting to watch and since then the kookaburras have been really friendly.
When the little one was able to fly - he called out to me and my husband - it was an incredibly special moment.
I’ve blogged this before, but I had no idea birds watch us so much
In these strange times I have switched off the media and found that watching the garden and it’s wildlife far more interesting

Another little beauty. One of “the Gang of Four” as I’ve named them that love to bathe in the water I leave out
This is one of the Butcher birds. They built a nest in our garden and we were swooped going to the washing line and even if we stepped out the back door. I rang a wildlife expert to see if they’d relocate them - they told me to befriend them with food.
Now they call me when they want a treat and for those concerned about them losing the ability to find food for themselves, they still do that and sometimes proudly show what they’ve caught.
Still completely wild, we’ve learned to co-exist and respect them.
When my partner mows, instead of swooping they realise they can feed on the insects and bugs.
We don’t use any pesticides so we have lots of birds, butterflies, but sadly not seen many bees 🐝
It’s been a beautiful experience gaining their trust and woe betide any intruders as they are scarier than my dogs
In these strange times - take solace in nature. Over the past few months these wild birds allow me and my partner to be around them. Birds watch us more than we realise. They have watched me fill up the water bowl for them each day and our garden has become like a truck stop for the local birds. It’s up high as I have dogs
