I was on Goodreads earlier tonight, and was honoured to find a number of reviews of my debut poetry collection, Soul Refraction.

As an author and spoken word poet, it's a privilege to see how much my words help and heal, and I am very thankful for everyone who has taken the time to not only read my book, but also leave a review.

Reflection 

The silent screams render me deaf, not broken,

my eyes continuously searching leave my head throbbing.

the repeated attached, while jarring and scarring,

do not render me physically hurt;

just a little sore…

The unsubstantiated character assassination

says more about their character than it does me.

Even though they take a part of me when they leave,

I am not rendered mentally hurt;

just a little sore…

So be kind to yourself when your emotions 

make you question if you deserve kindness.

Stand in empathy, authenticity, vulnerability,

because that is where we're seen, heard, understood;

that is where our power is truly found.

silence settles like a bruise

as the stars begin to bloom,

the ground exhaling into the night.

Night that arrives carrying old dreams

leaving my soul whispering your name.

My heart, my soul, is like an ember.

Always glowing, even when I feel like

the fire has died...

A place where comfort survives the cold,

with a lingering warmth that feels like home; 

a warm belonging...

Belonging that burns softly within me,

within you; the gentle warmth and glow

of true connection...

Temptation At Our Fingertips

Temptation lies at our fingertips…

A hundred distractions begging to be touched

at the convenience of what we hold in our palms.

Calling bluff as we mistake indulgence for freedom

while all meaning slips through our fingers.

Fulfillment remaining tantalisingly out of reach

when loneliness is only ever a screen away.

Impulse outrunning reflection in a handheld

paradise designed to exploit our weaknesses.

Our patience dying quietly behind hard glass

until impulse can no longer outrun reflection.

See temptation lies at our fingertips…

Yet it never stops us seeking something pure.

Freedom is Anarchy

Freedom flirts with anarchy

Recognition of order…

Exclusion of order…

Expectations laid to rest in

Disorder and disruptions where

Order is needed for harmony

Method required to stop madness.

Insurrection makes way for

Systems, calm, peace. Because

Anarchy is freedom without restraint

Nihilism breeding scepticism

Authoritarianism laid to bare

Refusal to comply, showing

Creativity and power in uniqueness

Helping others amid shared perspectives

Yet expressing individuality in solidarity

Anxiety

Anxiety… It whispers to me in futures

that haven’t arrived; may never arrive!

It says prepare…

Ready yourself for the future event.

It says predict…

Estimate the impact of the future event.

It says protect…

Keep yourself safe from future injury, loss.

And herein lies the worry, apprehension,

tension, fear and angst; anxieties heaviness.

The weight of tragedies you may never experience,

yet you rehearse like a fire drill for your heart and soul.

So why do you dwell on an unrealised future?

Reside in the weight of things that may never be,

instead of living in the present moment?

The here and now that is asking to be lived.
