Ana Caroline Sousa Campêlo, 21 years old, was found dead with her eyes, facial skin, ears and scalp ripped off. The brutal crime occurred on Sunday (10), in the municipality of Maranhãozinho, in Maranhão. The murder is being investigated by the Interior Civil Police Superintendence (SPCI). Witnesses were interviewed to help locate the suspects.
The young woman had just moved to Maranhãozinho to live with her girlfriend. Feminist movements and the LGBTQIA+ community have pointed out that the motivation for the crime was lesbophobia. "Ana Caroline had her life and dreams interrupted last Sunday by a despicable and lesbophobic man who is aware of male impunity in cases of feminicide against lesbians", published writer Márcia Tiburi.
“We demand from the authorities that justice be served not only in the case of Ana Carolina, but also that effective actions be taken to combat the massacre of lesbian women that has been occurring and being silenced for years,” added Márcia.
Federal deputy Daiana Santos (PCdoB-RS) also commented on the crime and lamented the death of Ana Caroline. “It pains me to have to report another death, because we are tired of talking about ours only after the tragedy. Every body that falls is a victory for impunity. That's what we have to prevent," said the parliamentarian.
Correio tried to contact the Civil Police of Maranhão to find out more information about the investigation, but until the last update of this article, the newspaper had not received a response.
