God fuck imagine falling in love with Superman's son and convincing him to overthrow the evil goverment that's taken over your country and he hemms and hawws about whether he can do that without it being an abuse of his power but eventually comes down on the side of doing what's right. And then you get proof that his own country is the big bad, run by the most corrupt individuals that not only personally ruined your life but killed your mother. And suddenly because it's America and not your native country a coup is too far, too authoritarian. Superman can't abuse his power like that. Gotta let the bad people keep killing because it's more complicated than cartoon nazis or foreign dictators. If it was one bad apple sure but a full system overthrow? That's just too far.
