Persistence: firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. . Persistence is key. You may or may not know this, but I used to be a heel striker. I was chronically injured, from IT band syndrome to knee pain, and even compartment syndrome in my calf. I had knee and hip surgery. Ankle and foot problems for which I originally was given orthotics. I tried all the shoes, all the foam rolling, all the ice to no avail. Sure I would be fine for awhile, but then it would crop up again. . . Changing my form was a difficult process. It is still a hot topic in the medical and running community. I was met with opposition in both areas. People saying It wasn't possible, you will be right back into orthotics, strengthening your feet won't work, etc. . It took a very long time, and I'm still working on it every day. You have to have persistence to overcome something that you have done one way for so long. . . I'm so thankful that I have been able to run these past few years without getting a running injury from over use. I'm no where near perfect, I'm a work in progress. It's something that I will be working on for a lifetime. I'm fine with that. I also know that I have some work to do coming back from this foot injury. I will have to take my time and go back to the basics that I used to do and I plan on taking you guys through my journey back to running. I can't wait!!!
