Drew Hancock’s sharp sci-fi horror follows Josh (Jack Quaid), who brings his new “girlfriend” Iris (Sophie Thatcher)—a lifelike companion bot—to a lakeside weekend with friends. She’s perfect: attentive, beautiful, never argues. And then people start dieing.

This isn’t Terminator. It’s The Stepford Wives for the age of dating apps, incel rhetoric, and emotional outsourcing. Iris doesn’t malfunction—she reflects. And what she reveals about her human guests is far more monstrous than any "glitch".

With blistering satire, dark comedy, and a career-best performance from Thatcher (who conveys dawning selfhood with just her eyes), Companion skewers “nice guy” entitlement, toxic masculinity, and the myth that intimacy can be bought. Oh and Guillén steals every scene.

It’s not perfect—it tells more than it shows—but it’s smart, stylish, and savagely funny. One of the funniest horror films of the year so far
