TW:misrepresentation of DID, faking, possession mention.
When I was first trying to figure out and understand what DID was I subscribed to a bunch of different YouTubers, some well known and some not so well known. Some channels I look back on now and I see things that don't read as DID at all. It confused me at the time cause I wanted to create videos in the same format and a similar style as them and stuff like that, but I could never fully relate. I wondered things like 'will I ever hear alters voices from across the room like ____ does' and 'will my alters posses me like ____ does?' I know now that DID doesn't work like that at all, but when I was learning and trying to relate to others I found it really confusing.
I don't know if these people have DID as well as other conditions, or they were faking, or they honestly believed they had DID when they didn't. It's not for me to tell them what they do and don't have, I'm sure they'll figure it out on their own. All I can say is it's harmful and can lead to a lot of confusion for someone who is trying to learn about DID and learn about themselves.
