Soir- Gabriel Ferrier
this one reminds me of Iphigenia
Plus a song that reminds me of Iphichilles
oooh love the composition of this one, id love to elaborate but i cant piece two words together atm hjgfdksf
Do you think Elektra ever thought about Iphigenia and considered her self lucky for being the second born daughter, or unlucky for having to endure in that home for ten years with her mother and brother and sister’s ghost.
drew iphigenia as the “girl with a pearl earring” painting
sacrifice carried out by the child's parent ensures no retribution against the perpetrator
Iphigenia was sacrificed to quiet Artemis' anger, caused by Agamemnon killing one of her sacred deer. The Baratheon family crest is a deer.
Abraham is willing to sacrifice his son because God has asked him to. Dean is willing to sacrifice his son because God has asked him to. Neither sacrifice is consummated.
shireen baratheon & jack kline; iphigenia & isaac

Iphigenia Retellings part 1
"will enchant readers of Katee Robert and Rebecca Kinney."
Little hope for this book
"Artemis is horrified when she learns that Iphigenia’s family offered Iphigenia without her consent."
Please don't tell me you removed Artemis' responsability regarding the sacrifice
The story happens in modern day Australia, for some reason
Ouch 😬
"I could not tell you how many memes I had seen wondering what my new aunt saw in my uncle. Even I had to admit they were a little... unevenly matched."
They're talking about Menelaus. This won't be good 😑
Aegisthus is the bodyguard of Clytemnestra?
"I loved that Iphigenia is asexual, and Artemis is obligated to remain a virgin, yet they find ways to enjoy sexy times together. I don’t think I’ve ever read a sexier description of light BDSM."
I'm getting more worried
"Then the fact this white family owns some 'Gods-given' land in Australia, a country with a long history of land theft and colonisation of the Indigenous population..."
Worse that I'm sure the author didn't consider this problem
"To become Artemis' handmaiden, Iphigenia has to undergo some trials - which didn't feel like trials at all."
That's the third book I know where a goddess put trials to find a servant, the premise remains ridiculous
How can you copy-paste the title for Euripides play and still claim that Iphigenia was a bystander?
"told through the voice of the often silenced heroine."
There's a whole play dedicated to Iphigenia...
"She longed to be seen and appreciated for who she was, not as a consolation prize the men who didn't wed Helen."
Generic start
"Unlike the others, he had not come to pursue Helen. Clytemnestra pondered, what if she selected Agamemnon? Then, she wouldn't be relegated to a consolation prize for someone who had actively sought Helen's hand."
Well that's finally a different encounter for them
Electra and Crysothemis are here. Looks like they're in good terms, for the most part
I have doubts if this book had an editor or a beta readers
"I would regale him with stories of Atlanta, who competed in the games and excelled in hunting and adventure."
I checked the kindle sample twice, the mistake with Atalanta's name is still there
So at the page on the right Iphigenia is 13 years old going with her family to watch the Pythian Games
She suddenly says she wants to compete but Agamemnon rightfully says no. Let me point out again that Iphigenia is only 13 and the only "training" she had was using bow and arrows in secret. This would be a disaster
"Why can't he see that I can take care of myself?"
No, you can't!! NOTHING you've done to this point would prove that!
Achilles appeared
This book has a serious problem: a bunch of "tell but not show".
This page tells us Iphigenia and Achilles had weirdly profound letters exchange for two 13-14 years old, but we don't see the letters, so it leaves me in the weird situation of watching this teenage girl with her first crush claiming this is a very deep conection instead of just hormones and imagination 😐
"Perfect for readers of Madeline Miller, Natalie Haynes, and Jennifer Saint."
I had hopes, but not anymore after this line 😐
"You do not tell how I fell to my knees, begging with silent eyes for the goddess to change my father's mind."
"You do not tell of a false wedding and desperate mother. You do not sing of a dazed victim, who wandered toward her death, unwilling and afraid."
"You do not sing of exile in a barbaric land, a girl who is forced to do unthinkable things with her own clean hands."
"Listen to me now, Muse, and I will sing to you my truth. I will not omit the ugliness to shelter the gossiping maidens."
We start with the obnoxious "The myths are wrong! This fanfic written by a white american woman is the truth!" 😑😑🤦♂️
Said it before, but saying again: the implication that working for Artemis doesn't come with restrictions is so absurd it's laughable
If you're wondering about the plot, here's a review: one thing i would have really liked to see, i think, was more of a development between artemis and iphigenia - it seemed a little like they were strangers giving one another the silent treatment, and then suddenly couldn't deny their mutual attraction.
So... yeah
"—torn between a life of regal sacrifice and the forbidden love that dares to defy ancient tradition."
I'm confused on who this forbidden love is supposed to be
"I doubt your uncle gave her much choice in the matter; he would not be willing to leave such a prize behind."
Menelaus has yet to appear and we already have a Clytemnestra saying he treats Helen as an conquest 😐
"Though I had hoped you might be with child again. My brother needs a true male heir to secure the throne of Sparta, do not forget."
It's been years since their last encounter, but that's how Agamemnon decided to talk with them? My hopes for this book are low
The Helen's segment is titled The Trophy Queen
Judging from the 3 chapters in the sample it's implied that Helen had to marry very young, isn't very excited about her daughter and huge doubts if she even like Menelaus
Beatrice- Fedir Krychevsky
Iphigenia vibes :)
Rabbitology and the House of Atreus! Two of my favorite things!!
I feel like it works well with her in Tauris.
If you want an actually good adaptation of the Homeric Epics, go see Iphigenia, and actual greek film released in 1977
