soulmate au where everyone has one half of a two-part phrase on their skin in a color that matches their soulmate exactly, and Satoru's is a beautiful iridescent blue that says "Stronger". He takes this to mean he must become stronger, always striving to be The Greatest At Everything. His family encourages this thought.
Yuji's is a mottled purple, with hints of shimmer, that says "Together". It hurts because he is lonely, and because Grandpa keeps telling him that the color isn't right. It used to be solid and beautiful. But... something happened. And now his soulmate won't know it's him.
Anyway, they meet and immediately know that there's... something there. But it's not quite a connection. Like there's a screen between them, thin enough to speak and see shadows, but still too solid to let them touch.
When Sukuna body-hops, Yuji's soulmate mark blazes a perfect, glorious, iridescent blue. When Satoru is released, and sees it, he almost wants to be sealed again.
Stronger Together. But he was always meant to walk alone? Everyone always said so. It's part of him, now, the idea that he is too powerful for anyone else. He is alone, forever, out of necessity.
Stronger Together. Yuji's never been this excited. Even with all the horrible things going on, he's got his soulmate, and he's got his mantra, and everything will be alright, as long as they work together.

Satoru isn't sure he wants to survive this encounter, though.
Yuji meanwhile just kinda bullies his way through Satoru's reluctance and doubt because he's a brash, stubborn kid who's been granted the promise of someone who will always be able to withstand him and like hell is he giving that up without a fight.
and then they fuck nasty about it (bc of course Satoru does not die in this au. he has an adorable little monster of a soulmate to come back to. solidity in this fucked-up world. he can't die when Yuji's so so so happy to have him around)
