This was certainly… something! BUT LETS SEE WHAT WE CAN DO WITH THIS!!!!
True to their nature, and much like any other queer ships that take the piss getting together, these guys are ADULTS when they finally get together. If we ignore the certain Myra Kaspbrak and Richie’s tour (and the fact that they’re literally defeating a murderous clown!), they finally, after a late night talk that was influenced by a smidge of alcohol, decided to go on a date! Yep, an actual date.
For old times’ sake, and Richie’s totally cringe and embarrassing self who definitely still has a love for the diner that lives nestled in the depths of Derry, end up in there. While Richie orders, Eddie can’t help but stare at the ceiling with a wandering eye because it looks like it’s going to cave in any moment but who cares… Eddie does. But for now, he’ll look away and pretend it doesn’t exist.
After ordering, Richie sits across from Eddie with that shit-eating grin that he’s had since a child. He can’t bite back the smile that brightens up his face as they retell stories from their adulthood that they missed out on. Certain stories about Richie in college makes him wish that they remembered each other them because gosh.. he’d have loved to seen him climb on top of a statue and declare that he was king of the world, and later getting arrested for his erratic behaviours.
When the food arrives, and after the bittersweet trip down memory lane, the pair each tuck into their respective burgers, and leave the fries in the middle for leisurely use. They chatter some more, laugh until they’re gasping for breath and until the waiter tells them to quieten down, do they finally stifle their laughter into not-so-quiet sniggers.
Then, the telltale sound of the bell ringing above the door sounds out through the diner, slightly obstructed by the sound of ‘on melancholy hill’ playing in the background, a notch above the general standard for quietness. They pay no attention to it, after-all it will just be someone trying to grab a quick lunch. They lean over the table more, the energy charging between their bodies. You’d think they were about to kiss, until.. someone comes in that is awfully familiar. Richie blanches at the sight of it, his leg shooting out to tap Eddie’s, getting his attention to nod over to the clown.
Pennywise just strides in, laughs menacingly as he recites his ever so boring, ‘I know your secret..’ monologue, before stealing the fries that Richie paid for! He paid $6 for those for them to be stolen?!
“Hey!” Richie calls out before pennywise swiftly exits the diner, dancing in front of the window with the fries in his hand. Richie attracts the attention of the waitress who delivered their lunch merely 30 minutes ago, her eyebrows raised and hip cocked with confusion.
“Are you alright, sir?” She asks cautiously, wondering if something is wrong. After all, the man (Richie), from her perspective, is talking to nothing. Just a window. Plain old glass. But from Richie’s point of view, he’s face to face, protected by a glass shield, with the clown that terrorised his childhood.
Eddie boots Richie’s leg, snapping him out of his slight anger-fuelled rage, turning his head to smile at the waitress. “He’s fine. He’s just… he saw someone,” he stutters over his words, trying to think of a plausible explanation for his sudden change in attitude. Richie mutters a sorry, still staring at the glass, perplexed when he’s met with nothing.
They leave the diner after 10 more minutes, leaving the waitress a hefty tip for their behaviours. They got ice cream after their clown filled afternoon, hoping to freeze out whatever lingering headache the damned thing caused.
