had an illuminating conversation today about how show annabeth is angrier and more guarded than book annabeth. sometimes she can even be kind of mean.
which i LOVE because it highlights her fatal flaw of hubris so well. she DOES believe she’s better than everyone and you can see it in the way she treats them.
it doesn’t make you hate her because it comes from a place of fear and trauma and, honestly, she often DOES know best. but i really love how the show is leaning into the fatal flaws!

i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.
happy midnight! y'know making new official dreamswap refs wasn't exactly on my list of things I planned on doing in 2026, but here we are APPARENTLY.
design notes:
miles's cape has a blue fade on the ends now, and his cape pin has been changed from a moon to circle. there is also a crescent moon on the back now, as its length has been extended to fit this.
as always, the moon shape on the end of miles's staff can change size and shape. only one side has a moon now.
vicky's hair is an extremely light blue; almost white. it is bleached. her eyes are gray. she wears dark eyeliner and black lipstick. it took me a while to figure out her features, but I wanted to keep some elements of her original design after removing the monochromatic (xtale) element of the old one. she is also three inches taller than she was before.
vicky's weapon is an axe now instead of an enormous knife.
when ellie is using her powers, discolored veins similar to the ones on her cheeks should appear all over her body.
crystal just has guns now. since JR bans guns, the bullets are made of her own magic, which is a very convenient loophole. she should also have a pistol at her waist, but I neglected to include it. she does not have a brush anymore.
on the back of crystal's leather jacket is a spray paint-esque pair of angel wings. also, it's not visible, but there should be a JR pin on crystal's left sleeve.
blue is one inch shorter because funny.
both blue and ellie have glitch effects on their capes/scarves. where blue's scarf is glitching, the colors are a bit warmer.
arthur has armor under his cape. his wings can also now be procured at will. his cape has pretty much the same design as his old (cursed) jacket, with as much fluff as possible.
rather than just being yellow, arthur's color palette should be iridescent in nature. he should always have this imposing atmosphere of not being completely human, and his perceived youth should feel uncanny.
side note, these are in fact based directly on the poses from the 2020 refs!
Does anybody else think that Nico and Percy's fatal flaws are like interchangeable? Because like Nico is super loyal and like this bitch can befriend like the unbefriendable. We have Hestia (love her), Bob (love him too), hell we have Reyna. (she's the best <3)
And then Percy like holds grudges. Like he fought Ares once and even after losing his fucking memories, he wants to fist fight Mars like bitch? To those saying that's just the aura, I'm saying it right now that Percy 100% might still have a grudge against 12 year old Nico. Like I'm just saying. Anyways this was just something to rant bout. Cya

Am I just yapping again? Yes but look I was looking up fatal flaws for my fic and 3 of the seven had insecurity as it and I was like no
Percy & Annabeth
Perfect, no notes
Yes, he cares about certain people in his life to an overwhelming amount
And yes, she believes she can outsmart gods/titans/giants
Personal loyalty and hubris my beloved
Piper
Do I believe she's insecure and has self worth issues? Yes. Do I believe they're big enough to be her fatal flaw? No.
Instead I headcanon that her fatal flaw is desire
She desires to be loved, she desires to be wanted, she desires independence for herself, she desires recognition
This stems from her insecurity and self worth issues
That's why she didn't let go of her and Jason's relationship after finding out it was fake, she wanted a stable loving relationship
Her want blinded her from looking within herself to ask if this was the right time or person for one
It's why she stole stuff for her father's attention with no regard for the legal ramifications
She wanted a strong godly parent, not even looking into how charmspeak is fucking terrifying
Also fits in with Drew's and Silena's fatal flaws better
Jason
I'm not gonna lie, Fandom wiki was vague about this one
It's like indecision basically?? How he puts off important decisions
I don't like that so I'm making it balance
Comes from Jupiter's justice domain basically
He cannot help but want to see both sides and their views to make a perfectly 'equal' judgment
Even if one is biased
Stems from his perfectionist attitude (Which I also headcanon him as a perfectionist since he was always expected to be the standard that other people look up to)
He wants to find his own balance yet finds it difficult to
He thinks he can balance all aspects of his life, camps HB and camp Jupiter, mortal and demigod life, his responsibility and wants
Leo
Only one out of the trio of insecurity that I could see with insecurity as his fatal flaw
His actions, thoughts, and feelings all line up with intense insecurity and major self worth issues
They're a defining feature of him and ultimately actually led up to his 'death'
He's self sacrificial because of it
Also his guilt about his mother and experience in foster care made it worse
If I had to pick a different one, I would make him WAYYY more scared of his powers and responsibilities to change to fear of himself and his abilities
Hazel
Would also go with canon where it's stuck in the past
But I would develop it further since I don't really see how it would works after HOO
She feels MAJORLY out of time
Whether by tech or norms, she can't get a handle on them
Overly formal bc that was the normal back then
Trying to unlearn the extreme purity culture
Like in canon, she still suffers from vibrant flashbacks even if it's less often
On the side of her duties, she obsessed with finding pieces of her past
Frank
Last one of the insecurity trio, I changed his since it mostly revolved around Leo??
Hard time choosing but eventually settled on self isolation
Once again stems from his insecurity and self worth issues
He can't help but see himself as different
Beast and man, Roman and Greek, leader and soldier, Chinese and Canadian
He’s a second generation immigrant to me and therefore has the issues of not being connected to his home culture and feeling ostracized in his current country
His childhood did contribute to his tendency to self isolate
He doesn't feel like he belongs completely in one group
Makes him feel lonely and cling onto his relationships
Tends to find it difficult to connect to people due to his varying background
Reyna
No canon one, so I have her fatal flaw as duty
Which is why I feel like her joining the hunters felt wrong
She'll never be able to abandon New Rome or Camp Jupiter
Especially with the whole 'daughter of Belladonna will uphold camp' stuff
She also led camp Jupiter by HERSELF for months, anyone else probably would've thrown the other seat at someone else within the first month
She only gave up praetor when she felt someone else better fit came up
(Headcanon) and still stayed in camp/New Rome to help out
Nico
Now I get and see how his fatal flaw is grudges
But like BOTL and his crush kinda throws that off for me
Oh I also haven't read the sun and stars so keep that in mind
Bc why would you help the guy who you think basically killed you sister (even if you were planning to betray them later) and have a crush on him??
So in a character foil moment, I headcanoned him with personal loyalty like Percy
Like his running away phase and lashing out was what Percy could have done if someone who he trusted and was deeply loyal to were to betray him
It would make sense why he would circle back to Percy even after Bianca's death bc he used to be/is/burying that deep within loyal to him
He's loyal to specifically individuals too, not camps, not to gods (apart from his father), and not to causes
Also why he was so attached to his mother despite it being a long time since he saw her
I feel like he's more selective with his loyalties? Idk I just think he would have a smaller list of those he cares for
Will
No canon fatal flaw, so like Reyna, I have it as duty
But it's to being a healer
He can never turn down someone who needs healing
It's why he healed Annabeth after Percy (accidently) killed his brother
Or why he keeps to the clinic
He simultaneously feels trapped and obligated to be the healer
But during off time he feels purposeless and useless
Ties his self worth directly to how helpful he is as a healer
Also tends to put everyone else as higher importance than himself
Which Nico helps him out of
Clarisse
No canon one as far as I can find, so I have it as loyalty
BUT NOT LIKE PERCY'S
Hence the 'personal' in front of Percy and Nico
Her loyalty is to a cause or a place, not individuals
So like the Ares cabin where she wanted them honored
