I’ve come up with some thoughts on the old version of Dreamswap, so I’d like to share them.
About three years ago, a theory surfaced in the Japanese Dreamswap fandom suggesting, “Could Nightmare have been subjected to experiments by JR?” At the time, I was convinced that Dream would never do something so cruel, so I couldn’t agree with that theory. However, looking back now, I’ve started to wonder if Dream really did conduct experiments on Nightmare.
Nightmare feels a strong fear of being experimented on. The reason given is that “he had a nightmare about being experimented on by JR.” However, I felt that “perhaps Nightmare was actually experimented on by Dream, and as a defense mechanism, he convinced himself it was just a nightmare?” In *Another Outcome*, Dream transformed Nightmare into a Radiant without his consent. In other words, it’s highly likely that Dream had already conducted an experiment on him once before. After all, Dream did want to sever his life bond with Nightmare.
Yes, I know it’s not a good idea to mix new and old canon. But… when I see how cruel the current Dream (Arthur) is, I just can’t help but think that way!
Dream might have been a more brutal man than I realized. That’s why, when I read that he said, “I don’t want to kill anyone,” on TCU, I felt so relieved.
