thereâs a broader frustration I have, which is that critique is seen as an exclusively destructive and negative act. certainly, there are a lot of critiques that are poorly thought out, navel-gazing, and/or meandering, but apologia that is poorly thought out/navel-gazing/meandering is always seen as preferable (and more creative) to critique. and I think in some ways fandom is amenable to critique (âfix-it ficâ is a mode of critique) but in general criticism is taken as synonymous with haterism, and haterism is viewed as a no-fun-allowed attitude exclusively used to upset other people
Holy shit: 90 local organizations have signed on for Friday's ICE OUT general strike in Minnesota, including the entire state AFL-CIO chapter. We might actually have a shot at this if we can get our organizing together in time.
250+ local businesses will close on Friday in solidarity with the strike.
Local folks, we're going to remember the names on this list, right? I know I have got to try out that empanada joint, and I have been delighted to see many of my local yarn stores and bookshops among their number.
For some historical context, the last city wide general strike was in 1946. There has never been a statewide general strike in US history, and there has never been a general strike with demands aimed at the federal government.

Apparently ICE now has agents posing as utility workers to get into people's homes. The electric and gas companies have posted information on how to tell if it's one of their workers, and numbers to call to confirm whether they've sent someone to do utility work on your house.

Oregon state Rep. Ricki Ruiz said three people were detained in his district after ICE agents posed as utility workers.
Some people have shared stories of suspicious âsales representativesâ knocking on homes, asking about the home owners and who lives there, fishing for phone numbers, but do not provide business cards, company id, company phone numbers, etc when asked.
They come in pairs, never one person though one may hag back a bit. They have been seen using cars with significantly tinted windows, no business logos anywhere on the vehicle, or parking close to the home they walked up to only to drive away right after without visiting other homes, almost as if theyâre not real sales people.
True door to door salespeople need a sort of peddlerâs license, subject to city and county law, to solicit at your door. You can ask to see this permit. If they donât provide one or make an excuse, they are likely bogus.
They wear a jacket with a company logo but likely donât wear name tags and the Donât provide id.
Tell them youâll call the company about a noncompliant representative. Make them leave. Better yet not to open the door to them, and tell them nothing.
Actual sales reps also generally do follow âno solicitingâ signs. Be aware, be safe, donât give out your information or that of others under duplicitous means.

i liked botl for how messy it was. It was THE book for literal teenage angst. not one character was fully in the wrong or in the right. all of them had their reasons for why they acted like they did or felt the way they did. i dont know why this fandom loves to act like there always has to be a single Bad Guyâ˘ď¸ in situations like maybe they were all just kids going through some hard shit
