Let me take you back to one of Lady Penelope’s main episodes from TOS - ‘The Man From MI5′. Nice play on the title here. But, when we might have expected this to be a job for Gordon, it’s actually one for er- John?

So yes, after all the asking, it’s John, and she is sticking with John. Gordon really must be gutted. This scene was absolutely golden as well.

“Did I hear party? Do you need a date? I could be there in no time! (Scott, let me borrow Thunderbird One).”

“Thank you Gordon, but I already have a date.”

“John?”

“No way! You actually got him to leave Thunderbird Five.”

“Mmmm...”

“He wanted it kept quiet.”

“But I’m the obvious choice! John hates social... anything. Besides, whose gonna’ do space monitor duty?”

“Funny you should mention that.”

“I had to ask.”

“Walked into that one!”

“And who do you think’s taking him up there?”

“Uhh... Ohhh.”

Also, I like the fact that Lady Penelope has a wildlife preserve.

Yes, the date is none other than John. Not a second of doubt that he can handle a ‘little’ social situation.

“Speaking of amazing how do you like that custom tuxedo I designed? Didn’t you notice all the cool hidden functions? Like the radio in your collar.”

“This isn’t a spy mission, Brains.”

I don’t know, John, you are with the UK’s top spy.

“It’s just a quiet, little charity auction.”

“I may haveunderstand the quiet part, a bit.”

“hAnd the little.”

Yeah, thanks for that Parker! So the only part she actually told him about correctly was that it’s a charity auction. Thankful for that radio now, John?

“John, are you alright?”

“I thought there’d be less this. People. Talking. In person. I mean communications is my job, I talk to people from all over the world, I’d just rather do it from space.”

I think John could be socially autistic.

Look at Sherbet though, sitting so happily on Penelope’s arm.

“Place like this his ha ‘ot-bed for pick pockets. hIn my day, this would ‘ave been ha gold mine.”

“No one will be picking anyone’s pockets tonight.”

“Not while hI’m hon watch duty, M’Lady.”

Definitely famous last words. Wait for it.

I love how one minute Lady Penelope is pulling John away from people and telling him who to talk to, and then the next just walks off and leaves him to fend for himself.

“Did I mention the cufflinks?”

“Will they make me invisible to crowds?”

“Why didn’t I think of that?”

Because you are not John who is currently very desperate to disappear from the face of the Earth.

Also, I love how Scott has a laptop. Obviously he’s doing Tracy Industry work today.

“What exactly do you do, Dear boy?”

And could you be any more patronising? I mean, go on, give it a try.

Did I see Kat in crowd as well?

And the focus on the food? It was spot on really. It’s the little things that help to make episodes like this. This episode had a great balance of humour and tense moments, with a brilliant rescue, a great appearance by The Hood and a very nice view of a different side to John.

With some absolutely brilliant moments by Parker. Only he and Sherbet could end up in a fight with kitchen staff in a Chateau kitchen at a party whilst he’s meant to be looking out for pick pockets.

“Wonderful party isn’t it?”

“’ey? ‘e’s cheered hup. No kitchen staff? Goood grief, hit’s-”

“You weren’t supposed to see that!”

“hIndeed. Now, drop that weapon, hor hI’ll be hobliged to serve you ha Parker ‘aymaker.”

And they actually showed more of the ‘fight’ than I expected them to. I mean, hitting someone’s head with multiple saucepans..? Because that’s PG.

“Welcome everyone, and- *Clatters* - And, they’re obviously preparing our very delicious desert.”

It’s a good thing she can talk her way out of almost anything.

“One million.”

Just throw and smash your glass... yes, that’s exactly what I would do at a formal charity auction. As I’m sure we all would.

“And how does he expected to pay for it? By robbing us?”

“That’s exactly right.”

“The Hood...”

“Pick pockets!”

Yes, Parker, they made it past you. Just.

“What makes you think I’ll willingly give you any of my money, hey?”

“I placed laser cutters on the cables, that hold up this Chateau. Would you like a demonstation?”

Why did you even say anything man?

“This one doesn’t show up on the system.”

“Who exactly are you?”

“Me? I uh...”

I did find it hard to believe that The Hood wouldn’t recognise John though. I mean, he’s even been to Tracy Island, he’s seen their portraits. I know John looks a little different in a suit, but still. I mean, it does look like The Hood is considering him, but I still think there would have been recognition there.

“If I could get outside, I could try and disable them.”

“You’ll need a distraction. Parker?”

“Right ‘away, M’Lady. hOi! hIf you’re gonna rob hus, hat least ‘ave the decency to serve proper canapes!”

Now chair throwing! This is perfect! Exactly my type of party.

Oh Bottomsly really is an idiot. I mean the name did hint.. A candlelabra? Great choice of weapon. TAG really risked their Universal rating on this one.

“Fool! You’ve activated the laser cutters!”

For once, and only once, I agree with The Hood. Bottomsly, you are a fool.

“This place is doomed!”

“And so are you!”

Well... nearly. When have we ever known The Hood not to have some kind of escape plan at the ready? I mean, he did in ‘Legacy’ and he really should have been done for then.

Nice of him to give us a little bow as well.

Now to go off topic for two seconds and see if I can give anyone a laugh for today;

You know what, I will give you the two images that popped into my head during this scene, particularily from the above photo.

1. Titanic. Iconic moment that I need not say more on. I will advise though that I’m not really a fan of this film, so I don’t quite know why it came to me.

2. Richard III (Ian McKellen’s version) - where, defeated Richard III falls into the fire below, arms wide and smiling. I never really understood this version of the film. It’s set in Nazi Germany... I will say no more.

“Hairstyle not recognised. And not very stylish.”

“We speak of this to no one.”

“To the rocket!”

Oh my gosh, the humour with this pair and EOS (finally someone wrote an episode with EOS)! This was so so needed in this episode and had me in fits.

“I’d like to see the reports for myself.”

“I’m not sure you’d understand them. But I’ve found a wonderful puppet show you might find entertaining.”

Best thing is - I reckon Gordon would have really liked that puppet show.

“Gordon to John. You’re AI is being evil again.”

I wouldn’t quite say this counts as evil, Gordon, more like mean, but your choice of words.

“EOS?”

“It’s not me this time!”

“This time?”

Oopps, nearly gave it away.

“I mean... How can I assist?”

See, there you go! Bond over your love for John. Probably the only thing (besides humour) that these two have in common. It was also really nice to see Gordon in Thunderbird Five. He never made it up there in TOS.

“I’d still take this over the crowds.”

John really does have a better head for heights than I do then.

“Scott, we need you now!”

Yep... like overdue need you that should have been.

“John, I’m on my way.”

“Pursue The Hood.”

“FAB.”

Yeah, because Kayo does the Bad Guy Chasing not the Rescuing.

“You expect me to slide down that wire? What, in a dining chair?

“No, Bottomsly, I expect you to help the others first. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to leave before this whole place falls down on your head like a rock!”

Maybe a little harsher than it needed to be said like, but it did need saying. I love how Sherbet gets to go first!

“All I need is money!”

Don’t we all at the moment, Hood. Care to share?

“Surely you have something up your sleeve?”

“Actually I do. Brains said something about cufflinks.”

And probably should have finished explaining about them.

“He put a laser up my sleeve!”

That could have gone very wrong.

“Hang tight, I’m coming to get ya’.”

Did Scott forget to say that he meant that literally?

“John! No!”

“I got you, party boy.”

Kind of you to save your brother from possible death.

“Thanks, Scott. Just put me down anywhere. Anywhere but here!”

I love how John was desperate enough to try and climb away! That was a little mean of Scott to try it though.

“Much happreciation for fishing FAB hOne hout hof the sea.”

I love Parker’s priorities! In fact, there might be a fanfiction coming based of this. Stay tuned.

“I’ve been sent dozens of messages inviting the mysterious hero to parties everywhere. Shall I forward them?”

To Gordon, maybe?

“It’s a chance to see the world.”

“Thanks, but the world looks just fine from Thunderbird Five.”

That is the question.

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

FAB One flying towards what looks to me like the most precarious tower ever built in the middle of a desert. Yeah, that could only be the property of one person as well, and I’m not talking about Lemaire - whose probably still dressed early for Halloween.

No, I’m talking about Langstrom bloody Fischler. I don’t care if he has a middle name, because that is now it, okay?

“Thanks to your financial support, we have spared no expense to quickly make this dream reality!”

Okay, okay, so one; why did these people give him money?

And two; note the use of the words expense and quickly... let me guess, no safety protocols? No test runs? Yeah, he’s already said it all in a sentence, damn idiot.

“Um... what’s happening?”

Bet you’re regretting giving him your money now, ey?

“Well it’s all rather technical. Needn’t bother you with the details. What is happening!”

Yeah... this man never knows. Risk to us all. So basically he’s created an army of weather drones! Yay!

And of course FAB One ends up flying right into the unexpected.

I love how Lady Penelope doesn’t say an outright no to this suggestion of Parker’s;

“hI could halways set the dog hon ‘er.”

It’s only for the briefest of seconds, but of course John has a reading corner. Of course he does.

“Fischler, he has good intentions, but you know what a mess he makes of things.”

“Boy do I ever.”

“Mr Fischler, this is International Rescue. How is everything there.”

“Oh fine, fine, how are you?”

I seem to remember every conversation with Fischler starting a little something like this and ending with disaster all the same.

“Do you need assistance?”

“No! This control tower can take anything. I designed it after all.”

Yeah, I love how John still decides to send his brother’s out after that sentence. Fischler designed it... well then we better go and take a look, I’ll bet anything he thought something along those lines (and maybe briefly about leaving the man to his own devices, but hey, these guys have consciences. Learn the world please, Fischler).

“I’m just glad Scott’s way with Alan. Fischler wouldn’t like what he’d have to say.”

Would that be a well aimed punch? Which has to be censored out to make it universal viewing? Yeah, I bet it would have been. Easiest solution, remove Scott from the episode. I mean, I wonder more if Rasmus Hardiker just wasn’t available for that date, or if they wanted to not feature him (for the reasons I’ve previously stated. Still, I would have liked to see that punch.

“It appears you have made some weather making drones.”

“Completely with a zippy looking paint job.”

Oh God... I feel exactly what Brains does here.

“Well... you can’t expect everything to go right first time, can you?”

“Yes, actually, you can.”

Virgil is clearly in charge with Scott away, giving all the orders and the like.

“’ang hon, M’lady.”

“’anging hon, Parker.”

I love that. I love, love that interaction.

Sherbet growling at the drone was so in character for him.

“Right then, you hovergrown blender, that will be henough hof that!”

Yeah! Too right you are, Parker!

“I recently installed some electric charge nullifiers on all of the Thunderbirds.”

Oh, did you have a premonition, Brains? Or did you just think that might come in useful at some point? Good thing he’d recently installed them or this episode might have been over very speedily.

“By best estimate is between 2 and 22.”

“Ok... I guess we’ll let you know.”

It’s a little like playing a game of chase with these weather drones, isn’t it?

“Parker, will these gyrations go on much longer?”

“Not hone the hengine gives hout.”

“Ah, well then, carry on.”

Yes, don’t let the engine stop you, Parker.

“’old hon to you mutt, M’Lady!”

Another of the greatest lines I think we will ever hear Parker say.

“One of these, four of those...”

I wonder if Gordon shops like that... it would certainly explain his stack of treats.”

“Did you see that? She almost hit us! Reckless flying, that’s what that is!”

Um, no, Fischler, I think it was deliberate flying.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to save you!”

“Well nobody asked you to! But it never stops you lot, does it? Because if you couldn’t flit about in your shiny airplanes and ‘rescue’ someone, well you’d all be out of a job, wouldn’t you? With your weird outfits-”

“Much better.”

Don’t worry, Virgil, I would have put him on mute too.

“Last time I checked, Thunderbird Shadow doesn’t have weapons.”

“Then I’ll improvise. That was fun!”

I don’t think you’re meant to be having fun, Kayo. This is meant to be a serious rescue. Just chase the weather drones away please.

Yeah, don’t worry about Gordon, he’ll just hang... for a while.

“Hey guys! Its a long way down without a parachute!”

I know falling wasn’t much of a good option, but I don’t think sitting on a Thunderbird is that much of a better one.

“Open the door, open the door, open the door.”

“Oh, you call this a rescue? What were you, born in a tent?”

I don’t even understand this man.

“I may have a plan.”

“Well I hope it’s a quick one! This tower’s going down any minute.”

“Don’t leave us hanging, Brains.”

Literally, in Gordon’s case. Funny, not funny, of course.

“I just with we could make those drones fly in a straight line. It would be much easier to pick them off.”

“Kayo, we do rescues. We’re not trained as fighter pilots.”

“It’s on my to do list.”

Oh my gosh, TAG, stop it! I mean, this is a universal rated show, and yet you’ve given Kayo and absolute obsession with violence. I mean, when she’s contributing from the Island, you occasionally give her some sense, but when she’s out in the field (like every time), you set her off arguing with someone (Scott,Virgil, John, Brains) about why International Rescue isn’t International Violence. Come on, you can have badass characters without the need for all of that. Literally, it just annoys me and makes me ignore the entire scene - we’ve heard it before, it’s nothing new and likely we’ll hear it again. I mean, I could give you a list, but I’ll be kind and refrain.

“Gordon, where are you?”

“Oh, just hanging out.”

One of the greatest ends to a rescue, in my opinion - and the sort of humour we need pitted against Kayo’s stone cold desire for picking fights.

“All in a day’s work.”

Quite agree with you, Parker. And Lady Penelope skipping the opera is just great!”

“I shall soon embark on a new and even more amazing endeavor.”

“Yeah, maybe a career in fireworks.”

Waay to go, Gordon. You just had to inspire the man!

“I am not afraid of the unknown, the untested, the unorthadox.”

“The unwise...”

“The unnecessary...”

“The unstable...”

“The unethical.”

I think things usually go in threes, but I will accept the fourth here. Fischler deserves it in my opinion.

This is short. This is shorter than I am happy with because this was another fantastic episode that made it in my favourites. I mean, it had another big rescue with our favourite brothers and it had Parker (with a little Sherbet on the side) and it was just epic.

But you know what’s not so epic? My internet connection, again. Coupled with the fact I have had a really busy work week, so unfortunately today it was nothing or this. So I ran with short, but exists, as opposed to nothing. Sorry for all the comments I haven’t replied to yet! I will hopefully get there over the weekend.

“114... The worst.”

“Oh come on, I think they’re all pretty much the worst.”

Well, Torchwood would agree with you on the 114 thing - in their world, that’s an evil alien.

Sorry - not sorry - that I may have been re-watching this show (again) to keep myself awake this week (and because it’s pretty cool).

In fairness, they should have listened and waited until it was time. Things could have been avoided.

“It was only a matter of time before something went belly up in one of those things.”

You were saying, Scott? Because funnily enough, I was going to say the photo below makes it look like they’re entering the belly of the beast. Funny? Who I am kidding, I am not a funny human being, but I like to think I have better jokes than in ‘Fight or Flight’ at least.

“And now it’s our problem.”

I understand the feeling, Virgil, really I do.

“Please let me talk to Mrs Baker.”

No one talks to the boss, it’s-”

“SOP, right. Is there any other way to turn off the turbine remotely?”

“Well you could use the digi-key. But that’s definitely against SOP!”

“Surely you could make an exception and let us borrow it?”

You’re way too hopeful, John. As if it could ever be that easy. You’ve only had six minutes of your screen-time slot.

Oh, there’s always someone who likes to try and state the ‘obvious’.

“Could be worse. The good news is that our masks will keep us breathing!”

“But, won’t the tank’s toxic gas eventually seep in and poison us both?”

“Well yes, but I wasn’t going to put it like that.”

Lady Penelope actually doing things which are not spy related for once, and John thinking she’s joking! That’s pretty funny actually. The awkward silence.

“There’s always Parker.”

“He’s not there with you?”

“Oh no, Sherbet hates public speaking!”

It’s all about Sherbet! Well, actually in this episode, it is.

“Sorry, Mr John. Someone hI’ve been left to look hafter his making hit difficult to ‘ear you. hI need ha what? hA skinny bee?

“A digikey.”

“hOh! We’ll ‘ead to hOxybaker right haway.”

This is a classic.

“I really don’t know who let you in here with that thing!”

“‘Old hon ha minute! hIs that you, Fred?”

“Nosey Parker?”

“hI thought hI recognised you! Light Fingered Fred, best pick-pocket hof your generation. halledgedly.”

Don’t we all love a reunion? Still, Parker is amazing in this episode (sorry I don’t have the time to really go on about how much, nor to really look at that stand off) and Sherbet is a grand companion. Someone else who has been learning some of Parker’s tricks it seems.

“hOh, you beautiful beast.”

I think an understanding between these two has finally been reached.

Taking Thunderbird One inside of there might not have been Scott’s brightest idea ever. At least he didn’t try to blast his way through everything.

“The pod will get sucked into the turbine if we don’t do this right.”

Woah, that’s how you really state the obvious. Give out a few lessons to the guest stars, hey Scott?

Sherbet floating around in FAB One... made my day.

“hOh...”

“What’s wrong, Parker?”

“hI’m hafraid hI just remember, FAB hOne’s not supposed to be this ‘igh. Crash dive, Bertie. Crash dive!”

Definitely an understanding reached. He even called him Bertie!

“Thunderbird Two!”

“Got them!”

“We’re saved!”

As if there was ever any doubt. This is Virgil we’re talking about.

Butterfingers here nearly dropping the key was not a funny moment. Not at all. Unlike Scott trying to jet around a turbine, but we will say no more on that subject. Why doesn’t he listen to his brother’s sometimes.

Anyhow, it’s a good thing John was able to catch it in time or we could have had pod munch on our screens!

“Our toxic levels are falling!”

“Unfortunately so are we!”

Yeah, please stop with the speaking too soon thing.

It’s a good thing Scott can remote pilot whilst falling that fast. I don’t think I’d be able to think clearly. Such faith and skill, and I’m not actually sure which there was more of on display.

“More slicing and dicing coming up.”

I feel like Virgil was waiting around the whole episode to be able to say and do that.

International Pes-cue... are we missing the market change here?

“Get me Mrs Baker immediately! Yes, I’ll hold.”

Such a contradiction there!

And this here, folks is one of the central characters of the episode.. Light Fingered Fred, a former known associate of Parker’, who originally featured in the TOS episode ‘Vault of Death’, which is worth to watch t see him break out of prison in a bin. Far more imaginative (and less destructive) than The Hood and The Mechanic’s method, and worked far better. Remember that one in case you’re ever looking to break out! They never expect the bins!

“At least I got his wallet!”

Oh, and it seems like some people don’t change. Better get running, Fred!

Parker! Really I think I love this character too much, but he’s such an individual, I personally think it’s hard not to.

So, this episode was so so hilarious to rewatch.

i’m still a little unsure as to why Alan is sleeping on the floor... considering he tends to fly in his sleep, I’m going to say that he rolls out of bed often so the floor seems easier to sleep on.ms easier to sleep on to save the fall.

“Alan, get up!”

“What is it?”

“We need you. Now.”

Thinking there was a rescue to go to and ending up at Lady Penelope’s is just classic. I would so love love love to have seen the other Tracy brothers driving lessons. I have my own theories - like I reckon Gordon’s was a nightmare and John and Virgil would have been very good at the ‘perfect gentleman’ part, and Scott would have been a speed merchant - but if anyone would like to make those potential visions come true (I don’t mind in what form) then go for it!

“Has The Hood redirected a comet towards the Earth? An underground earthwork in the Tokyo subway system? Oh, a fusion reactor about to melt in - I’m guessing here - Belgium?”

“Bigger than all of those things.”

Alan has such an imagination. Although they probably are all based in fact if we’re being honest.

“Driving lessons, are you serious?”

“hOh, yes, Mr hAlan, Sir. hI’ve taught hall the Tracy brother’s to drive, hand your father hand hall ‘is brother’s before ‘im. hAnd ‘is father hand hall... hoh no, wait ha minute, hI’m not quite that hold.”

“Great, Parker. Hey, do you teach Parking? Ha-ha.”

“No lip hat Parker’s Motoring School, hif you please, Mr hAlan, Sir.”

“Nobody drives FAB One hexpect me.”

Prepare to swallow those words, Parker...

And now we get to Parker! His acting is even more superb than I thought it was.. There’s kinda hints towards TOS ‘Lord Parker’s ‘oliday’ in here. Not obvious, and nothing big, but the whole idea of Parker acting like a high born.

“So, where (h)are we (h)off to today, Tracy?”

“I dunno, London?”

“Jolly good. (h)I (h)imagine (h)I’ll be meeting Baron (h)and Baronness ‘(H)igh-Falutin’, hand their cousin, Cecila Von-Posh Face.”

I wonder if Parker has based them on real people Lady Penelope’s met? I reckon he has. By the way, for anyone wondering, I’ve transcribed the h’s in brackets because you can tell Parker is trying not to say them with his high, posh voice.

“Thank you so much, Tracy.”

“Mmm-hmm.Very good, Parker. Beautiful deportment. But if you’re going to be playing me, you may as well go the whole dog. You know, for authenticity’s sake.”

“Yes, M’Lady.”

There’s is nothing that can lessen my love of this particular scene.

“When do we get to do the, you know, real driving?”

Yeah... I reckon Scott was the same.

I love this shot just because it makes it look like Sherbet is about to do the driving! Poor Parker though with his broken arm. That wasn’t one of your best moments, Alan.

“You just broke my h’arm, Mr hAlan, Sir.”

“Sorry!”

Now to introduce Sylvia Anderson’s little cameo character. She plays, drum roll please... Lady Sylvia. Not that much of a difference I know, but she’s very well picked for a voice actor and the character is perfectly well designed to fit in with Lady Penelope. it’s a nice little tribute over all and one that couldn’t have come any sooner, considering life and death.

“By the way, Parker, Lady Sylvia is coming for tea today.”

“You’re great hAunt, Ma’am? Lady Sylvia Creighton-Ward, coming for tea?”

“Yes, Parker. You know that drink we pour out of pots and cups.”

Anyone else get the feeling Parker has a thing for Lady Penelope’s great Aunt?

“hI ‘appen to like hantiques. Lady Sylvia for hexample.”

Oh, yeah, there we go.

“You keep TEA in kitchen?”

“Yes, Aunt Sylvia, where else would it be?”

I completely adore this cross-talk going on about tea and TEA. It made for such a nice twist to the episode.

The next characters we meet are this episodes villains, bad guys, whatever you want to call them’s...

And we’re seeing here some elements similar to TOS ‘Brink of Death’ with the attempted robbery at Lady Penelope’s Stately ‘ome (and the car looping around the well element, but we’ll get to that). Terry, the blonde with the top hat. And Bill, the red-head with the beanie.

“Young geezer” - I wonder how Alan would feel about that name...

“So, where’s the treasure?”

“What treasure?”

“Don’t call it treasure! We’re not pirates.”

“Well what would you call it?”

“Well... er... valuable um... stuff.”

“Oh, that sounds rubbish! Where’s the ‘valuable stuff’? You see? Not frightening.”

“It is if you say it frighteningly. Where’s the valuable stuff?”

“They don’t look frightened.”

Of course they don’t mate, they’re both super spies and way more bad-ass than you could ever hope to be...

“What about just valuables? Forget the stuff?”

“Suppose.”

“Where are your valuables?”

“Still think treasure sounds better.”

Considering they managed to get you sat down and debating that... yeah, super bad-ass.

Lady Penelope trying to put them off the scent and Lady Sylvia messing up all of those attempts was absolutely classic comedy.

“Treasure!”

“Valuables!”

“Either way, something that’s worth a lot of money!”

And money makes the world go round!

“He’s the fourth richest man in Europe.”

Hmm... nice to know just how much money this family is sitting on.

“Bill, are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

“I hope not, Terry, because you are stupider than a bag of rocks.”

Let’s leave that argument there shall we.

“Oh this is a dumb idea, ‘Mr Clever-than-a-bag-of-rocks’ man.”

Yeah... or not.

“No hone steals FAB One.”

It had a little bit of everything: stalling; circling; bumper-crashing; cut-offs; wheel spins; running out of petrol; getting stuck on a roof; a bit of bog standard jet-powered engine flight, and just your every day flight and TEA. You know, just the bog standard Italian Job style affair.

Yeah, yeah just your usual car chase, nothing to see here.

I love that Alan gets to drive FAB One and Scott seems so upset by this! I’m guessing maybe he’s now been made the second best driver of the Tracy brothers?
