Join @nycfairtrade and @reclypt on September 21st from 1pm-8pm for an all-day upcycled fashion love fest. We'll kick off the festivities with a brief presentation on upcycling (whether you're new to this or have been upcycling for years, you're sure to learn sometime)! Afterwards, we'll host a panel discussion (Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose: How Fashion Waste Contributes to Climate Change) on why upcycled fashion is the future of fashion for both its unique style and climate friendly practices, followed by a documentary screening of "Upcyclers." Next, we'll hear from local upcycled fashion brands themselves about how they found upcycling. Finally, we'll wrap up the educational portions with closing remarks, then the music is turned up so we can mingle, shop, and enjoy vegan treats and juices to continue upcycling for the climate. Throughout the day, Reclypt will be hosting its Mending Club for you to learn a new skill or bring your own projects on the 2nd floor, in addition to a sustainable fashion pop-up and an interactive photo shoot where you can play dress up with, you guessed it, upcycled pieces on the main floor. It's happening. I am making an appearance at @athensfarmersmarket this Saturday, 8am-12pm. Not only will the jewelry be new and different, so will the shopping experience. I've gone to the market a few times and have been so comforted by how this community is creating a safe shopping environment for everyone. It takes all of us so I am instituting some safe shopping rules as well. Shopping at the booth will be like shopping online: the items aren't available to touch or try on. Unlike shopping my jewelry online, most items will be market exclusives. I can adjust all necklace lengths on site for no additional charge, once they are purchased. There will be a socially distanced set up for that, requiring (provided) hand sanitizer. ¤ Masks are required at the farmer's market and you should always ensure your nose and mouth are covered by them in public. ¤ You can purchase items online and pick them up at the market for free. There will be a socially distant set up for pick up, to prevent crowding ¤●¤ This market will help me gauge whether or not I will be returning for the season.
