In 2023, about 45% of US adults aged 18-29 were still living at home with their parents. That's almost half of all young adults! This is the highest percentage in about 80 years, since the Great Depression in the 1940s.
Most of them are doing this because they're trying to save money. More than 40% said they moved back home to save cash, and 30% said they literally can't afford to live on their own. Rent went up 18% since 2020, and the average rent is now over $2,000 a month!
Over 60% of Gen-Zers and millennials moved back home in the past two years because of high housing costs, student debt, and inflation.
